Gay Marriage; States Right Or Constitutional Mandate? Supreme Court Legalized Gay Marriage In All States

SUPREME COURT MADE GAY MARRIAGE LEGAL FOR ALL AMERICANS, IN ALL STATES

The U.S. Supreme Court ruled 5-4 on Friday that it is legal for all Americans, no matter their gender or sexual orientation, to marry the people they love. The decision is a historic victory for gay rights activists who have fought for years in the lower courts. Thirty-seven states and the District of Columbia already recognize marriage equality. The remaining 13 states ban these unions, even as public support has reached record levels nationwide.

States theoretically have the power and right to pass any laws that they want, including laws that are pro-slavery, racist discriminatory and/or prejudicial against a minority.

The USA has a history of slavery, racism, discrimination, prejudice as well as genocide. Women did not have the right to vote until fairly recently. Women could not own property until recently. Black and whites could not marry until recently. Blacks and Indians could not vote, because they were not 'human' until recently. The 60 million American Indians originally here were reduced in number to 50,000, while being pushed off their land, through force. Blacks were imported from Africa, used and held by force as slaves. This and more all happened despite the Constitution saying that all men are created equal.

AMERICA HAS A HISTORY OF EVOLUTION TOWARDS GREATER HUMAN RIGHTS AND FREEDOM

However, this great country also has a history of evolving beyond those things. The melting pot that makes up America moves beyond narrow viewpoints to embrace minorities in the long term.

In the short term, sometimes the Constitution and the Bill of Rights is followed and sometimes it is not. Bottom line, the 30 states that passed laws against gay marriage are violating the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.

History shows that in the long term, the majority of Americans stand up and defend the minority against the tyranny of the majority.
