A Jewish American Woman Reports On Visit To Occupied Territories, Anna Baltzer Was Witness in Palestine, Apartheid Is Normal And Everyday Life In Gaza; Illegal Settlements By Israel Are Expanding

First of all, if you have not heard about this issue anywhere before, it will come as quite a shock, so be prepared. The mass media only presents what is politically correct, so saying anything that could be deemed to be 'negative' around Israel, is not allowed on mass media, ever. The mass media has quite a history of picking the 'wrong' side to report on. Journalism is supposed to be about presenting BOTH sides and then letting the viewer or reader decide. There is very little journalism left in the mass media today, and much of it talks about only one side especially when it comes to Israel and the Palestinian occupation.

"To extend the comparison, it’s as if today’s New York Times, Washington Post, CNN and MSNBC were behaving like the dominant white Southern newspapers of the 1960s, turning their collective backs toward those who favored racial integration.

Martin Luther King Jr. meeting with President Lyndon Johnson at the White House in 1966.

Just like the white Southern press tried to pretend the civil rights movement wasn’t happening, today’s U.S. mainstream media ignores voices opposed to America’s imperial wars, no matter how credentialed those citizens are. Consider, for instance, how the major media won’t publish anything from the Veteran Intelligence Professionals for Sanity, a group that reflects the views of such international figures as Pentagon Papers leaker Daniel Ellsberg, FBI whistleblower Coleen Rowley and former CIA analyst Ray McGovern.

Ironically, as much as U.S. officialdom and its mainstream media castigate RT and other Russian news outlets as “propaganda” fronts, RT and the like are playing the role that the Northern press did during the civil rights era by carrying important stories about U.S. peace protests while the NYT, WPost, CNN and MSNBC behave like the South’s segregationist media did in the 1960s, dismissing or ignoring the dissent. [See, for instance, Consortiumnews.com’s “When Silencing Dissent Isn’t News.”]

If it weren’t for today’s biased and imbalanced U.S. media, there would be daily, front-page, primetime, network news attention to the dangers of perpetual war and a critical examination of Hillary Clinton’s role in wasting trillions of dollars and hundreds of thousands of lives.

What is the rest of the story, which the main stream media will not talk about, show pictures of or discuss, much less investigate?

JEWISH AMERICAN SPEAKS OUT ABOUT THE REALITY OF WHAT IS GOING ON IN PALESTINE AND GAZA, CONTRARY TO WHAT IS SEEN AND HEARD ON US MASS MEDIA

Video; Part III https://youtu.be/64izLZlW7OE  Questions And Answers

Anna Baltzer is a Jewish-American activist for Palestinian human rights, author, and public speaker, known for taking positions counter to the Israeli government regarding the Palestinian territories, including the wall/fence and checkpoints. Baltzer's grandparents survived the Holocaust.

Baltzer first traveled to the Middle East in 2003 while on a Fulbright grant to teach English in Ankara, Turkey. Since then, she has traveled to the West Bank as a volunteer for the International Women's Peace Service to as she describes, document human rights abuses and support nonviolent resistance. Her publications have documented eight months of human conditions while on assignment in the West Bank for the International Women's Peace Service.

Since the summer of 2005, she has been touring around the United States and abroad with a presentation and has written a book (Witness in Palestine) describing her personal experiences, observations, and photographs from eight months of documenting what she described as human rights violations in the West Bank.

Noam Chomsky's review of Baltzer's book states, "Even those who are familiar with the grim reality of the occupied territories will quickly be drawn into a world they had barely imagined by these vivid, searingly honest, intensely acute portrayals", while Tanya Reinhart author of "Roadmap to Nowhere" call it "Moving and vivid." Mark Chmiel, teacher at St. Louis University and Webster University and author of "Elie Wiesel and the Politics of Moral Leadership", has also written about Baltzer's book. On October 28, 2009, Baltzer was a guest on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, along side Mustafa Barghouti.

Baltzer's activism centers around nonviolent protests, as well as providing documented information to those interested in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict for the purpose of education and encouraging dialogue towards taking action on the issues. She correctly points out that critical information doesn't show up in the United States mainstream media.

PALESTINE TERRITORY IS OCCUPIED BY ISRAEL, CARVED UP LIKE A TURKEY, FULL OF ILLEGAL ISRAELI SETTLEMENTS, BUT NO ONE IS ALLOWED TO FIGHT BACK, OR THEY ARE CALLED 'TERRORISTS' AND SHOT ON SIGHT

The 'settlement' process of Palestine is following much the same process as the 'settlement' of America after the 'founders' found America, ripe for the taking, despite millions of indigenous people already there. Since America supports Israel, and is hiding it's own guilty conscience, it makes sense that fear of being exposed, and projection is now the norm when it comes to alliances such as with Israel. Palestinians are constantly being forced out of their homeland, and are then replaced by new 'settlements' occupied SOLELY by new Israeli 'settlers', much like the 'settlers' in the US settled the 'new lands' that were discovered by 'explorers' who found virgin territories, ripe for the taking.

2016 - UN chief ‘deeply disappointed’ by Israel’s new West Bank construction
https://theuglytruth.wordpress.com/2016/07/05/un-chief-deeply-disappointed-by-israels-new-west-bank-construction

If the Israelis really wanted peace and harmony, they could easily do this by making all Palestinians Israeli citizens, with the same rights and privileges that all Israelies do. Instead, ALL Palestinians are treated both legally and socially as 'second class' citizens, much like slaves, without the same rights, freedoms and privileges, despite living in the same physical location. What can a common sense person call this except for Apartheid?

A system of checkpoints, fences and walls keeps Palestinians unemployed, poor, uneducated, and herded into small areas like sheep in a pen. They can travel, but it takes so long and it is so much trouble, that they cannot hold a job, keep appointments, or even get to the hospital in an emergency, so people die, waiting at checkpoints.

The 'kettling', 'herding' and 'fencing' is being done to them by occupiers and 'settlers' in their own country, by the Israeli Occupation. Palestinians are not allowed to own guns, so they cannot even fight back as freedom fighters. Their men are reduced to being sheep. If they try to fight back, they are punished even more, with more of their 'rights' and 'freedoms' taken away.

The red dots above are all illegal Israeli 'settlements' on Palestinian lands. The Blue lines indicate Israeli roads, which can only be traveled by Israelis, not by Palestinians. The second class Palestinians have to get different kinds of ID, have different colored license plates on cars, drive on different (worse) roads, have to stop at all 'checkpoints' and more.. This is worse than in the US, where black people were required to ride on the back of the bus, or Africa, where Apartheid was broken with international pressure.

When illegal 'settlement' children can accuse other children and get them arrested, but only if they are Palestinian, what does that mean? Maybe the Palestinian girl should consider herself lucky she was not shot dead on the spot, for being a terrorist? When Palestinian's want to complain about illegal 'settlements', and/or maltreatment by the 'settlers' and occupying military/police, who do they go to? Oh, they have to go to the occupying Israel military/police... How many of these complaints are acted on? Well, let's count how many illegal settlements were torn down? How many checkpoints were taken down? How many Palestinians were allowed to go to Israeli hospitals, drive on Israeli roads, or live in Israeli 'settlements'? ZERO. Unequal justice, unequal rights, unequal freedom is the rule in Palestine.

The Gaza Bombardment - What You’re Not Being Told

Israel isn’t defending itself against the Palestinians any more than the Europeans were defending themselves against the natives of the Americas. Year after year the Israelis have taken more Palestinian land, bulldozed more homes, set up new settlements, and systematically expelled the inhabitants. You can make up justifications or deny it all you want, but the maps don’t lie.

This isn’t defense, this is ethnic cleansing.

Of course there are those who are actually ok with what these maps tell us. There are people who like to assert that Israel has the right to steal every square inch of Palestinian land because supposedly one thousand five hundred or so years ago their Jewish ancestors were expelled. They call this the right of return.

Ok, let’s go with that.

Rights are an interesting topic. The thing about rights, is that if human right actually exists then it would have to universal to all of humanity.

So what about the Palestinian’s right of return?

Don’t you find it a bit odd that one of the primary stipulations that Israel always imposes upon the Palestinians during negotiations is that in order to reach a peace agreement the Palestinians have to accept that they have no right to return to the land that was taken from them in the past 50 years? We’re not talking about people who have some kind of abstract ancestral claim, these are the actual people who lost their homes, and their farms, and their businesses in this lifetime.

So is the right of return an actual right or is it not? You can’t have it both ways without exposing the dirty underbelly of this issue: which is that Zionism is a fundamentally racist and fascistic ideology.

BTW, remember that Israel has set caloric limits for Gaza. Did Israel learn from their Nazi Masters, or are these the markings of the same cabal doing the occupying and the killing? Israel set calorie limits during Gaza blockade: Document in Israel reveals army calculated minimum calories Gazans needed to eat during blockade to avoid malnutrition.

So is the right of return an actual right or is it not? You can’t have it both ways without exposing the dirty underbelly of this issue: which is that Zionism is a fundamentally racist and fascistic ideology.

UNOCHA: "There is literally no safe place for civilians in #Gaza."

Today's Geneva briefing: http://ow.ly/ztrZt
Gaza Emergency

Jens Laerke, for the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), said he had the latest situation report from Gaza which covered a twenty-four hour period up until 3 p.m. yesterday, Monday 21 July. The report showed that the emergency had now seen over 500 people killed, the vast majority Palestinian civilians, and more than 100,000 people had been displaced in 69 United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) schools. There were more displaced people who were not in UNRWA schools, he added.

The protection situation was devastating for people in Gaza, said Mr. Laerke. The strip was extremely densely populated with an estimated 4,500 people per square kilometre. There was literally no safe place for civilians, he said.

Almost 500 houses had been completely destroyed or severely damaged by Israeli airstrikes, which had killed civilians and displaced the survivors, said Mr. Laerke.

A main priority for humanitarian agencies was the protection of civilians and evacuation and treatment of the injured. There were critical shortages of hospital supplies and medicines due to the large number of casualties and there were serious shortages even before the escalation of violence, Mr. Laerke said. Those who had been displaced to either UNRWA schools or elsewhere in Gaza needed food, water, mattresses and hygiene items.

According to assessments by aid workers on the ground, at least 107,000 children required specialized psychosocial support to deal with the trauma they were experiencing such as death or injury in their family or loss of their homes, said Mr. Laerke, adding that since the beginning of the crisis on 7 July, emergency psychosocial teams had been able to provide some initial support to 868 children across the Gaza strip.

Mr. Laerke said that more than 15,000 people whose homes had been destroyed needed emergency kits with non-food items, mattresses, blankets, hygiene kits and kitchen sets. Almost 9,000 people had received such assistance but in the medium term, they would all need cash assistance to cover rental fees.

Overall, an estimated 1.2 million people had no or limited access to water because the power systems in Gaza had been destroyed or simply because there was no fuel to generate them. There were also reports of sewage flooding, which was a threat to public health, added Mr. Laerke.

Humanitarian partners estimated that to just meet the most urgent needs today, they needed US$40 million, not counting the requirements of the UNRWA operation. A fast and flexible way for donors to channel funds to help people in Gaza was through the Emergency Response Fund, a pooled fund mechanism managed by OCHA, Mr. Laerke noted.

Israel friendly mass media kept reporting that they would drop leaflets, warning residents of bombing that would happen soon. But where are they supposed to go? The entire Gaza strip is either blockaded, and/or surrounded by fences, and/or walls, and no one can go anywhere.

LENN GREENWALD: American media officials are incredibly subservient to American political officials. That’s been—you know, American media figures are. But when it comes to Israeli political officials, it’s virtually cringe-inducing to watch how accommodating and deferential and submissive they become. And it really is true that American media outlets play a very similar role when it comes to Israeli military operations as they played in the run-up to the Iraq War, which is that they give constant anonymity to any Israeli military or political official who request it, they launder those claims without the slightest bit of skepticism expressed, and there’s never or virtually never the other side presented, which is the views of the people living in those areas that are attacked by Israeli aggression, or the politicians or the military officials who are in Gaza or who are in the West Bank. It’s incredibly one-sided, it’s propagandistic, and it really is deliberate. I mean, it’s so overwhelming and extreme in terms of how one-sided they are. They barely pretend even to be even-handed in their coverage.

And, you know, you’ve seen—I mean, I think one of the most amazing things was, the producer, the longtime producer at CNN, Octavia Nasr, she was there for 20 years, a completely competent, well-liked employee, never had any kind of disciplinary problems. A Shia imam in Lebanon, who had links to Hezbollah, died. He was beloved by millions and millions of Shia around the world. She went on Twitter and very innocuously just expressed condolences, and she was instantly fired.

And this has happened over and over, where major media figures have been stigmatized or lost their jobs or had their careers destroyed for the slightest amount of deviation from pro-Israel orthodoxies. And those lessons have been really well learned, just in the same way that American members of Congress are petrified of uttering a peep of criticism of Israel, which is why you see pro-Israel resolutions unanimously passing in the U.S. Congress, even as public opinion is sharply divided around the world or even against the Israelis. I mean, the evidence is just so conclusive, so clear, about all kinds of pressure and intimidation that are put on American media and political figures, such that we have less of an ability in the United States to debate Israel policy than they even do in Israel.

HUGE GLOBAL PROTESTS AGAINST BRUTAL ISRAELI OCCUPATION OF PALESTINE HAPPEN, BUT THEY ARE NEVER SHOWN ON US TV OR IN ANY OTHER MASS MEDIA, WHY NOT?

Have you seen or heard about any of these protests going on all around the world? No? Surprise, these large scale citizen protests going on globally are almost always ignored by the US mass media, unless they are pro corporations and pro business.

Even a US based HUGE climate change protest and march was for the most part, totally ignored by the US mass media.

US PRINT MASS MEDIA COVERAGE IS DIFFERENT IN THE US FROM THE REST OF THE WORLD WHENEVER THE SUBJECT IS PALESTINE; WHY?

Notice the difference in content and headlines for the Newsweek issue above. One international issue going to the countries other than the US features a story about Palestine.

But the US version is scrubbed of any reference to Palestine and the story in the international version does not appear in the US copy, and it has a completely different focus, on (sports) This would just be coincidence, but this is a PATTERN and can only be seen by international travelers, who can compare news coverage in other countries to the US mass media news coverage.
