The first step in solving any problem is not denying it exists. Avoiding talking about or looking at problems is a good way to make those problems worse and much more difficult to solve somewhere down the road. Anger, fear, rage and hatred are great ways to deny problems and cover up what is really going on.

Denial can also take the form of being a pollyanna, by paying attention only to feel good positive but empty slogans, which actually serve to deny real world problems. Huge corporations are great a PR campaigns that prey on people's need to 'feel good' with empty meaingless slogans and sayings.

Currently, the US education system for the most part teaches whatever the monopolistic corporations tell them to teach, which is that natural and organic is bad, and that anything chemical or GMO is good. The downside of this going along with monopolistic 1 percent controlled corporations PR campaigns is that the medical, education and food industries really have no clue as to what creates sustainable health or what supports health.

Meanwhile, the medical industrial monopoly pays no attention to foods that can and do heal or prevent diseases by hyper focusing only on HIGH PROFIT drugs, radiation, vaccines, chemicals and surgery, none of which actually support sustainable health. All natural and sustainable methods of reversing disease and preventing ill health are ignored, denied, suppressed, attacked or labeled quackery.

The factory farming industrial complex controlled by the 1 percent has no clue how to keep the soil healthy and alive, much less keeping the soil full of minerals. As a result, huge factory farms kill the soil and drain it of all nutrients, and then add poisons to keep the plants alive. In addition, the GMO industry creates seeds and foods that are full of toxins and have less nutrients than ever in them, thus destroying the health of the community. Besides killing the soil GMO foods also kill the future of the nation that embraces them and uses them.

On top of all of that the fossil fuel industry powering the industrial factory farms is heavily subsidized through corporate welfare and entitlements, and fossil fuels are what create the poisons being sprayed or dumped on the GMO foods. It takes about 100 calories of fossil fuels to grow 1 calorie of toxic GMO food, which slowly but surely degrades and destroys the health of the community and nation.

Anything not sustainable is TERMINAL.

Most of the modern world economy is TERMINAL, by definition.

This is the treatment that animals receive on (factor) farms, no attention even in this suffocating heat. Thirsty cows and straining from the heat and kept in their own excrement. 

Of course, the cows are making milk for their calves, which have to be taken away and sold off for veal, or for dog food. The mother cows suffer from this taking of their calves as they understand this loss and grieve over it.

The fossil fuel industry receives HUGE subsidies, as does the GMO industry. Combined together, they outcompete the organic food industry which receives ZERO subsidies, thereby disrupting and monopolizing the 'free market'. Huge corporations also have access to near zero interest rate financing and can hide their profits overseas, which small organic farmers cannot do. Small farms are going extinct, as these huge monopolies take over the entire world's food supply.

AGRICULTURAL INDUSTRY HAS MOVED AWAY FROM USING ANIMAL DUNG OR COMPOST AS FERTILIZER, TO THEIR DETRIMENT


In a recent study in Africa, it was found that a field of corn raised by indigenous farmers on small family farm plots raised corn had the following results, with various types of fertilizers; 

5.5 Kg     of corn with no fertilizer
10 Kg      of corn with chemical fertilizer
91 Kg      of corn with recycled human/animal waste fertilizer

The above statistics point at a problem both in the undeveloped world, as well as in the developed world. Chemical fertilizers do not solve the basic problem of what to do on a sustainable basis with human and animal waste products. Nature and plants are designed to utilize waste products from animals and humans, and then give them back to humans and animals in the form of grass, food and minerals that support health. Chemicals are no substitute for this law of Nature, which has been developed over millions of years of evolution.

MAYBE CHEMICAL FERTILIZERS AND TOXIC PESTICIDES ARE NOT AS GOOD AS THE PROMISES MADE BY THE MARKETING PEOPLE

Chemicals come from oil. Oil is controlled by a few huge globalist corporations, who use their monopoly power to control you, your food, and where your energy comes from. Maybe it is time to look at the downsides of the modern industrial animal farming system, and follow the lead of the EU, which has solved many of the problems identified below. 

In France and Germany, it used to be a sign of WEALTH, the bigger the farmer's manure piles were. The manure was spread on the fields, enriching them, which then resulted in bigger yields and more financial rewards for that farmer. A farmer with no manure pile quickly exhausted the soil and went bankrupt because the plants refused to grow or came in sickly, weak and with very poor yields.

There is an animal group for every type of animal on the planet. There are anti cruelty to animal laws in states. It is felony to abuse animals in 47 states. But what about farm animals, which are the largest category of animals in our country? There are 10 BILLION animals on factory farms today. 

We love our cats, dogs and other pets. But do we love farm animals as much as our pets? Surveys say that 95 to 98 percent of people believe that all animals, including farm animals, should be treated well. Animals feel, and they want to avoid pain and suffering just as much was we do. But we have all of the power over animals, and we make life and death decisions over animals. Those choices have consequences. 

Animals are at the center of human life. Are we congruent with our belief about being kind to animals and what actually happens to animals on factory farms? Are we oblivious to the needs of our animal companions on this planet just because they are out of sight on some huge factory farm?

As of 2010, in the U.S. 766,350 producers participate in raising beef. The beef industry is segmented with the bulk of the producers participating in raising beef calves. Beef calves are generally raised in small herds, with over 90% of the herds having less than 100 head of cattle. Fewer producers participate in the finishing phase which often occurs in a feedlot, but nonetheless there are 82,170 feedlots in the United States.[36]

According to Denis Avery of the Hudson Institute, Asia increased its consumption of pork by 18 million tons in the 1990s.[12]:29 As of 1997, the world had a stock of 900 million pigs, which Avery predicts will rise to 2.5 billion pigs by 2050.[12]:30 He told the College of Natural Resources at the University of California, Berkeley that three billion pigs will thereafter be needed annually to meet demand.[12]

In the United States, farmed animals are excluded by half of all state animal cruelty laws including the federal Animal Welfare Act. The 28 hour law, enacted in 1873 and amended in 1994 states that when animals are being transported for slaughter, the vehicle must stop every 28 hours and the animals must be let out for exercise, food, and water. The United States Department of Agriculture claims that the law does not apply to birds. The Humane Methods of Livestock Slaughter Act is similarly limited. Originally passed in 1958, the Act requires that livestock be stunned into unconsciousness prior to slaughter. This Act also excludes birds, who make up more than 90 percent of the animals slaughtered for food, as well as rabbits and fish. One of the largest sources of CO2 and methane gas global warming gases are factory farms. Huge factory farms collect the lion's share of private corporate welfare. Meanwhile, the small family farm is making less than minimum wage, while working 7 days a week with no vacations. 

One of the best and easiest ways to reduce our personal contribution to global warming is to switch not only what we buy, but what we eat. Eating beef contributes a HUGE share of global warming gases, but we do have a choice in what we eat. Eating lower on the food chain, becoming vegetarian or even vegan is one of the best ways to reduce your carbon footprint, faster and easier than doing anything else. 

The NRDC estimates that if all Americans eliminated just one quarter-pound serving of beef per week, the reduction in global warming gas emissions would be equivalent to taking four to six million cars off the road. The single-most green/sustainable thing that you can do as an individual is simply eat less meat. You will reduce greenhouse gas emissions more so than you would than taking public transit or driving a hybrid car. And you don't even have to be close to vegan or mostly plant-based, like me. Try doing Meatless Mondays or reducing your portion size of meat and adding vegetables. Your health will benefit, as well.

Bottom line, the huge factory farms have political clout to keep all of the BILLIONS in private farm welfare payments for themselves and not share it with small organic farmers. Whether they get paid to grow or not grow is beside the point. Small organic farms are struggling to survive, while the behemoth factory farms get the lions share of subsidies, grants and entitlements, despite this program being set up for the SMALL farms, and EXCLUDE the largest farms when it was started.

FACTORY FARM OWNERS ARE SO DISCONNECTED FROM CONSUMERS, THEY NEVER SEE THEM OR HEAR FROM THEM, DON'T EVEN KNOW WHO OR WHERE THE CONSUMERS OF THEIR FOOD ARE, AND THEY ALSO DO NOT REALIZE THAT THEY ARE VIOLATING NATURAL LAWS

The problems on factory farms start with disconnection and include huge artificial money injections via corporate welfare from taxpayers. Farms used to sell either directly or in their local town. Everyone knew their local farmer and could visit the farm where their food was raised in a few minutes. That situation has completely reversed itself in the modern factory farming system. No one even knows what farm their food came from, and they are lucky if they even know the COUNTRY it originated in.

Factory farmers are now so disconnected from consumers, that they may very well never see a single consumer in their entire farming career. Consumers never see how or even where their food is raised, so they know absolutely nothing about it, much less what the cow, pig or chicken was fed, or how it was raised. This disconnect is the basis for all of the other problems now being experienced in the so called modern food system. Farmers and consumers have no idea what the problems are, or how to solve them. 

The first step in solving a problem is to measure it, and then set goals around that in order to solve the problem. But without measuring the problem, it is not even something that can be identified or worked on, much less solved.

Millions of buffalo, deer, antelope, and other creatures inhabited this great land for hundreds of thousands if not millions of years, without causing harm. But now that factory farms have concentrated animals in very small spaces, huge problems are appearing and spreading through our supposedly 'modern' and very advanced society. 

The Indigenous cultures are intimately connected and tied into Nature, animals and consequences if they over exploit the natural resources. The whole village relied on a balance with Nature and the plants plus animals around them. This intimate and close relationship to the land, the environment, the animals and balance was always present, up until recently. Nowadays, this close and intimate relationship has been severed. Very few people know where their food comes from. Even fewer know where or how it was raised. WHAT IS YOUR FOOD BASED CARBON FOOTPRINT? 

It goes without saying, that even fewer than the above have performed a carbon FOOD footprint calculation. But to solve this problem, it first has to be measured. The average milk cow that produces cheese, milk products and then meat produces an average of 500 to 700 liters of methane per day. One cow belching methane produces more global warming gas than the CO2 emissions from a large four by four vehicle traveling 35 miles per day, all by itself.

MOST FACTORY FARMS RELY ON GMO PATENTED HIGH COST SEEDS, AND PATENTED CHEMICALS, UNSUSTAINABLE CARBON BASED EQUATION THAT IS LOSE LOSE LOSE, DUE TO VIOLATING NATURAL LAWS

For every calorie of food that is grown on a factory farm, 10 to 100 calories of carbon energy must be used. This is not a sustainable system. Factory farms drain 70 minerals and kill all living things in the soil through 20,000 toxic chemicals, and then return only 3 minerals to the soil, just enough to grow a 'cash' crop; this is also not sustainable.

Factory farms rely on a top down system of patented seeds, chemicals and poisons that are 'prescribed' by the manufacturer, and is owned by them as well. GMO seeds are all patented, so they cannot be kept and replanted from one year to the next. Because there is no connection to consumers and farmers have no feedback on what their food does to the animals or people that consume it, they can blissfully keep on raising food that may be sickening or killing animals and/or people. As long as these huge factory farms that average over 2,000 acres make huge profits via both subsidies and/or direct profits from GMO seeds, no one is complaining.

The worst practices and most unsustainable ways of raising animals plus growing food are now being supported by the US taxpayer via for profit private corporate welfare and entitlements. The worst food producers are given the most amount of money. This is why white flour, white sugar, GMO products are so cheap, while tasting so BAD and being so full of toxic chemicals and empty of any meaningful nutrition.

This artificial propping up of something that is not sustainable also means that organic whole foods full of nutrition and flavor stay really expensive.

Regenerating the Soil and Reversing Global Warming
Regenerate grasslands and pasture lands, eliminate factory farms. Even more encouraging, as Rodale and others, including Quivira Coalition and the Savory Institute, point out, by adopting regenerative grazing practices on the earth’s seriously degraded 14 billion acres of pastureland and grassland (there is 3.5 times as much pasture land and rangeland on the Earth as there is cultivated farmland), we can eventually sequester an additional 71 percent of all current greenhouse gas emissions.

In other words by eliminating inhumane, unhealthy and heavily polluting factory farms or CAFOs (Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations), which now produce 2/3 of all global meat and animal products, and by putting billions of the Earth’s 70 billion farm animals back on the land, we can regenerate, through planned rotational “mob” grazing, and the production of grass fed beef and dairy, and pasture-based pork and poultry, the 14 billion acres of rangeland and pastureland that are our most strategic “sink” or depository for excess CO2 in the atmosphere.


Why are huge factory farm conglomerates getting paid money to NOT produce food? 


Farmers will only get payouts if they agree to protect the environment and enhance rural life, he will say.

The move is part of what he calls his vision for a “green Brexit”.

Farmers’ leaders want the current £3bn total to be spent on the environment, more infrastructure to develop farm businesses, and promoting British food.

The government has promised to keep overall payments at the same level until 2022.

16 THINGS WE CAN DO TO REGENERATE THE SOIL AND FOLLOW NATURAL LAW


Step 1. Switch the 90% subsidies away from the largest toxic and polluting earth destroying, health destroying factory farm corporations and give that 90% to the smallest organic family farms instead. Give the largest factory farms 10% maximum of the total farm subsidies. Let them fight over who gets that small piece of pie, as the small family farmers are now. Small permaculture type family farms can be supported and encouraged in many ways, including handing out credit slips at local farmers markets, effectively doubling the amount of organic foods that can be bought. These credit vouchers can only be used to buy local fresh organic foods from local fresh organic small family farms. 

Step 2. Support and encourage local food raising on local ORGANIC permaculture farms via official government policy and strategy. This includes teaching farmers how to mulch, how to make compost, how to grow heirloom seed crops without chemical fertilizers or toxic chemicals, how to fertilize the soil and keep soil organisms alive/thriving, and how to use companion planting, among other things.

Step 3. Create education programs around organic ways of raising food on a small local permaculture scale, via K-12 schools, colleges and universities. Teach children how to garden and raise food using permaculture methods.

Step 4. Create local deep connections between education institutions and those local farms via classes, on site day long visits, credit for internships, and more. 

Step 5. Teach the students and public about how eating a high protein animal based diet makes global warming much worse. Teach students and public about how to do a carbon footprint analysis for both food and energy use. 

Step 6.  Switch to local and city based farmers, and allow them to take over the burden of raising food for cities and towns near them (maximum of 200 mile range). 

Step 7. Lower the price of organic foods below that of synthetic artificial white flour, white sugar, and processed foods, by eliminating the subsidies for these junk food items, and moving the subsidies to the organic food industry, such as fresh organic fruits, vegetables, grains, seeds, and nuts. 

Step 8. Regenerate the soils and reverse global warming by eliminating factory farms and encouraging regenerative "mob" grazing practices, as described below..

Step 9. Use local low carbon transportation methods such as electric vehicles, horses, hydrogen or biogas fuel generated by farms, to connect the farms with the city that is within 200 miles. 

Step 10. Encourage farmers to grow not just grains, fruits, seeds and nuts via permaculture and without using synthetic man made chemicals, but also generate sustainable energy such as wind, solar, geothermal, water power, biogas, so that each farm has multiple streams of income. 

Step 11. Create sustainable virtue circles on a local basis. Local communities support local farmers and coops. Local utilities support local renewable energy producers. 

Step 12. Think about the impact of every decision on 7 future generations. Don't make that decision if it causes harm. 

Step 13. Set up more organic community as well as neighborhood gardens, plus free food forests in cities and towns.

Step 14. Teach the art and science of sustainable health in all schools, colleges and universities.

Step 15. Eliminate private for profit ownership of the 'commons' which is land, air, water, public facilities. Hold the commons in trust for seven future generations, without causing them harm. Create ecocide laws and prosecute any individual or corporation doing harm to the commons. 

Step 16. Eliminate ownership of huge corporations by a few individuals, switch to cooperative, employee owned structures, where each employee gets one vote, with no override by the board or CEO.

Theoretically all electrical power and fuel needs on a farm can be produced from animal waste and/or renewable energy sources. Farmers also have plenty of land to put up solar panels and wind power generators. The essence of a farm is to diversify income streams and have many more of them, rather than rely on just one income source.
