Chernobyl, Fukushima, TMI - Radioactive Forests, Fires, Smoke, Straw, Pollen And Pine Needles - 177,000 Bq/Kg, Pollen With 253,000 Bq/Kg In Japan; How Radioactive Is The Forest Where You Live?

After any nuclear accident, the whole area downwind of the site is contaminated and that includes the forests, rivers, ponds, lakes, fields and farms, in addition to cities, towns and villages. Decontamination is not possible, largely because the forests would all have to be chopped down and the soil would have to be bulldozed down to a depth of at least a foot, which may remove all of the topsoil. All forest soil and trees  would have to be disposed of. There is no realistic and affordable way to do this. The Russians bulldozed the Red Forest into huge ditches and then covered them up with soil, which is not really solving the problem; just hiding it.

A STORY ABOUT TWO FORESTS

A Tale of Two Forests: Addressing Postnuclear Radiation at Chernobyl and Fukushima
...."Despite the passage of 27 years, however, the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone is still one of the most contaminated places on the planet. Levels of cesium-137 in exclusion zone soils vary from around 37 kBq/m2 (the threshold for hazardous contamination used by Soviet authorities14) to 75,000 kBq/m2 in a random pattern that reflects the haphazard releases of radionuclides during the 10-day event.15 In the Red Forest, the pines planted after the accident have grown without a central leading stem, rendering them odd-looking dwarfs more like bushes than trees.13 Some places are too heavily contaminated to support natural conifer regeneration; pines rarely seed themselves in areas where human dose rates exceed 30 µSv/hr, says Timothy Mousseau, a professor of biological sciences at the University of South Carolina.

Since the initial discharge of radioactive materials, airborne radionuclides have migrated into the forest soil and, for the most part, stayed there. A study of soil contamination in the Red Forest found 90% of the strontium documented in 2001 was located in the top 10 cm of the soil.16 Blame—or credit—the forest, says Sergiy Zibtsev, an associate professor of forestry at the National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine in Kiev.

Trees, grasses, other plants, and fungi trap radionuclides through their basic life cycle: When leaves and needles transpire (release water), the plant draws more water up from the roots. Water-soluble salts of cesium and strontium are chemical analogs of potassium and calcium, respectively, and are taken up in place of these crucial nutrients.

In evergreens, Zibtsev explains, the radionuclides gradually accumulate in needles as each season progresses. The needles then fall to the ground, becoming part of the “litter”—the discarded vegetation that covers the forest floor—and returning the radioactive salts to the top layer of the soil in a natural cycle he says takes 10 to 12 years to complete. Without the trees or other permanent groundcover, Zibtsev adds, contaminants would migrate out, blown in dust or carried by water.

People just outside the exclusion zone who depend on forests for work, food, fuel, and other resources pay some of the costs for this environmental service. Many continue to live in areas with cesium-137 soil concentrations greater than 37 kBq/m2. They also continue to eat mushrooms, berries, and other local forest foods despite government restrictions and campaigns warning of the dangers.10 Mushrooms, the region’s most iconic product, build up especially high concentrations of radioactive cesium.17 Cesium-137 content in the majority of edible mushrooms in forest litter decreased by 20–30% between 2005 and 2010. But among species whose feeding networks (mycelia) reach deeper into the soil, the amount of cesium-137 increased during the same period as radionuclides migrated into deeper soil layers.15 In 2006 radioactivity in milk still exceeded permissible levels in 40 communities where cows grazed on grass contaminated by cesium-137.4,18

RADIATION SLOWS OR STOPS DECOMPOSITION IN FOREST, SO THINGS JUST DRY OUT AND FIRE DANGERS INCREASE IN MAGNITUDE PLUS SEVERITY

March 26 2014 After 30 years, Chernobyl trees barely decomposed, study finds
http://www.cbsnews.com/news/after-30-years-chernobyl-trees-barely-decomposed-study-finds/

The same radiation that kills the trees, also kills the fungus and bacteria in the soil which normally decompose the trees back into the soil. The trees and branches just dry out and sit there. What happens next is that the amount of dead material sitting in the forest increases, because it is not decaying away. Then forest fires come through and burn all of this radioactive material, spreading radioactive smoke and hot particles far and wide.

MUTATIONS AND DEFORMITIES INCREASE ALONG WITH FALLOUT RADIATION IN FORESTS

Major Japan Newspaper: Mutations in nearly every fir tree by Fukushima plant — Insects with missing legs or crooked — Abnormalities also found in monkeys, fish and frogs

According to the article above; "The NIRS reported that the frequency of these mutations corresponds to a rise in natural background radiation"

Does anyone really believe that fairy tale about 'natural' background radiation? Of course, pro nuclear PR firms love to make every increase in artificial man made nuclear fallout part of the 'natural' world, so that the nuclear industry won't be blamed for the negative consequences that follow.

FORESTS CANNOT BE DECONTAMINATED AFTER A NUCLEAR DISASTER, AND THEY ARE RADIATION SPONGES, SOAKING IT ALL UP

Via Jebus November 30, 2014  "Study: Fukushima health risks underestimated
"And when you leave the roads and go into the fields and surrounding forests, the radiation levels go up very strongly," said Jan van de Putte, a radioactivity safety advisor in Greenpeace who also participated in the Fukushima monitoring mission. Most of these areas therefore have "not been decontaminated, and cannot be decontaminated because, for instance, a forest can't be decontaminated, practically speaking", he added.

RADIOACTIVE FORESTS DON'T DECAY, THEY JUST DIE AND DRY OUT, MAKING FOREST FIRES EVEN WORSE, AND MORE RADIOACTIVE, LIKE SETTING OFF A NUCLEAR BOMB IN OPEN AIR

However, one year after the accident a storm resuspended deposited radioactivity in the exclusion zone, and the radioactivity of air in the Pripiat city in creased by a factor of 1 000 and reached 300 Bq.m-3. Fires in forests have also led to increases of radioactivity. In 1992, in the vicinity of exclusion zone, radioactivity due to forest fires reached 20 Bq.m-3 for beta emitters and 70 mBq.m-3 from plutonium isotopes. Monitoring stations far from these zones registered some peaks of radioactivity

RISK ASSESSMENT FOR ABSORBING HEAVY METAL RADIOACTIVE HOT PARTICLES VIA SMOKE FROM A BURNING RADIATION CONTAMINATED FOREST

HillbillyHoundDogAPRIL 30, 2017  The Greenpeace report has a lot of info

…It is determined that with time, the increase of a specific activity of 137Cs in the majority components of timber stands — sprouts, leaves, bark, wood — occurs in almost all wood species (Fig. 2) [5].
The greatest risk of radionuclide emission by wildfire within the exclusion zone occurs in the central and northwestern parts, mainly inside the cypress and red pine forest biotopes. Integral risk over land cover classes of study area is distributed as shown in Table 3.

…Coniferous forests in the foothills within the Fukushima disaster area are under greatest hazard of radionuclide secondary emission. Depending on weather conditions and season the spatial distribution of hazard can be varied significantly."

Fires burning near Fukushima plant — Officials ask Japan gov’t to send in troops to help fight blaze — Strong winds hindering firefighters (VIDEO)
The forest fires broke out near the town of Namie, some seven kilometers from the disabled Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant, on Saturday evening, Japanese NHK broadcaster reported… The prefecture has deployed several helicopters to extinguish the fires, which are believed to have been caused by lightning. According to police, at least 10 hectares of forest have burned in the area… With strong winds stoking the flames, the Fukushima Prefecture has requested help from the Self-Defense Forces, Japan’s de-facto army, on Sunday.

Namie was one of the towns and forest areas hardest hit by the radioactive fallout from Fukushima. No wonder they are not sending in regular fire fighters. How many of these fire fighters are being given breathing filtration equipment to filter out these hot particles? How much training in decontamination are they given, as they will become radiation contaminated after fighting this forest fire.

EVEN THE RAIN FORESTS ARE BURNING, DESPITE NEVER BURNING BEFORE, OR ONLY VERY RARELY

Paradise Burning: Why We All Need to Learn the World ‘Anthropogenic’

The wettest rain forest in the continental United States had gone up in flames and the smoke was so thick, so blanketing, that you could see it miles away. Deep in Washington’s Olympic National Park, the aptly named Paradise Fire, undaunted by the dampness of it all, was eating the forest alive and destroying an ecological Eden. In this season of drought across the West, there have been far bigger blazes but none quite so symbolic or offering quite such grim news.

It isn’t the size of the fire (though it is the largest in the park’s history), nor its intensity. It’s something else entirely — the fact that it shouldn’t have been burning at all. When fire can eat a rainforest in a relatively cool climate, you know the Earth is beginning to burn.

RADIOACTIVE TREE POLLEN SPREADS RADIATION EVERYWHERE

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=favTwuRaAgI 1 min.

A cedar tree is shaken, and the white pollen is visible as it drifts downwind. Imagine this pollen having a radiation reading of 250,000 Bq/kg, as some has been measured in Japan..

ALLERGIES GETTING WORSE, IS RADIOACTIVE POLLEN TO BLAME?

This article will explore why many more people are having problems with allergies these days. Could part or maybe all of the reason be due to radioactive pollen? It is a well established and scientific fact that the Fukushima mega nuclear disaster caused the forests and forest soils in Japan to become radioactively contaminated. Trees absorb and concentrate all radioactive man made elements from both the ground and the air into their stems, leaves, flowers and pollen.

RADIOACTIVE CARBON EMITTED FROM ALL NUCLEAR FACILITIES ALSO SICKENS AND KILLS TREES GLOBALLY

Radioactive Carbon 14 From Nuclear Power Plants Causing Deforestation, Disease And Death Of Plants and Trees Globally; via @AGreenRoad
http://agreenroad.blogspot.com/2014/05/carbon-14-emitted-by-nuclear-power.html

The Fukushima Province forest pine needles were measured and were found to contain between 54,000 to 177,000 Bq/kg of cesium in 2011. It would be interesting to study this and monitor the radiation levels, to see if they increase or decrease over time. Because the top layer of forest soil is the most contaminated, and that is also where the leaves and roots are located, it is more than likely that the radiation levels will not reduce.

ONE PLAN TO DECONTAMINATE FORESTS CONSISTED OF CHOPPING DOWN ALL TREES AND SCRAPING SOIL OFF MOUNTAINS DOWN INTO THE VALLEYS AND BURYING IT

What would it take to decontaminate all of these forests in Japan? Can it even be done? One plan called for the clear cutting of all forests, bulldozing the soil downhill and burying the soil scraped off of entire mountains in the valleys below. Of course any plan like this will never be carried out, because it is too cost prohibitive and totally unrealistic as well. So the end result is that these huge radioactive forests, radioactive leaves, pine needles, pollen and radioactive forest soils stay radioactive, and nothing changes, because there is not enough money to 'fix' this problem.

TV: Japan radiation expert says drastic measures are needed — Radioactive contamination now permanently in ecosystem — Fukushima forests must be cut down asap (VIDEO)

RADIOACTIVE FORESTS CONSTANTLY SPREAD RADIATION VIA LEAVES, RUNOFF, SMOKE, POLLEN AND NEEDLES

The pollen from these 11 million hectares of radiation contaminated trees is continually released into the air, and the leaves float back down to the ground and go into the water, which then goes downstream to cities where people drink it. Water also percolates through the radioactive topsoil, continually leaching more radiation into the streams, which then flows downstream. Stronger rains wash radioactive dirt and soil into the streams, which also goes downstream and ends up making drinking water radioactive.

Forests are very good at filtering large amounts of radioactive air, and transferring that 'pollution' into the leaves and then the ground. Because Japan is burning large amounts of radioactive garbage all over the nation, the overall amount of radiation in the forests and soils nationwide is increasing, not decreasing. The evidence is very clear, from the little that has been gathered so far. Obviously, the nuclear industry does not want any studies like this done, because it points out the insanity of burning nuclear waste.

Chernobyl forest fires may result in large scale re-release of radiation
Dr. Timothy Mousseau, Univ. of South Carolina: “The smoke is heading directly towards Minsk, Belarus… Clearly you would not want to be downwind in the main plume… this smoke is heavily contaminated… The simulations that our group undertook last year indicated that previous forest fires in the area had re-released, re-dispersed about eight percent of the radiation from the original catastrophe. Certainly the fire that we’re seeing today seems to be on a much larger scale. So we could see a re-dispersion of a very significant component of the original radiation.”

RADIATION LEVELS DOUBLE IN JAPAN FORESTS FROM 2011 TO 2104

Long term, AGRP predicts a public health disaster with worsening health statistics over the long term for Japan, because the incubation period for all of this low dose radiation exposure has to run it's course, before it shows up in worsening health statistics. But as surely as water flows downhill, the diseases, genetic defects and worsening health will show up.

Fukushima Cesium Levels in Japanese Forest Soil Almost Double From 2011 To 2014; via @AGreenRoad
http://agreenroad.blogspot.com/2014/01/fukushima-cesium-levels-in-japanese.html

As Japan burns more and more nuclear waste from Fukushima all over Japan, they are concentrating the radioactivity in the forests, specifically in the trees, which absorb the poisonous and radioactive heavy metals that mimic natural minerals. As the radiation levels rise, so does the amounts of radioactive elements released by pollen, leaves and smoke from burning wood, leaves, etc.

RADIOACTIVE POLLEN AND SMOKE TRAVELS UP TO 200 MILES FROM SOURCE

Radioactive smoke or pollen can travel up to 200 miles away from any forest, to be breathed in by humans and animals. Up to 2,000 grains of pollen can be found in a cubic meter of air in Tokyo. The pollen radiation levels found in 2011, when measurements were still being done, were up to 177,600 Bq/kg.

The forests and trees were and still are contaminated by radiation all the way down to Tokyo and beyond. The radiation from the Fukushima mega disaster did not limit itself just to Fukushima province and then magically stop somehow at the border. The radiation deposited in these vast areas of forests did not magically go away all by itself after a couple of months. The poisonous, heavy metal radiation is still there, but it is invisible.

CEDAR NEEDLES CONTAIN UP TO 177,000 BQ/KG OF RADIOACTIVE CESIUM

Radioactive Pollen? Tokyo: Up to 2,000 grains inhaled in 1 cubic meter of air. Cedar needles had cesium-134 and -137 levels ranged from 54,300 to 177,600 becquerels per kilogram..  “The Forestry Agency used those results to estimate the radiation exposure from pollen grains. If the level of contamination was 177,600 becquerels per kilogram"....

"...High radiation levels of more than 250,000 becquerels per kilogram of radioactive cesium have been detected in male flowers of Japanese cedar trees in the restricted zone around the damaged Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant. The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries collected male Japanese cedar flowers from 87 locations throughout Fukushima Prefecture between late November and early December to measure radioactive cesium levels. A ministry spokesperson said 253,000 becquerels of cesium per kilogram were detected in the flowers collected from Namie..."
The peak periods of pollen from cedar trees in Japan are from December to April. The pollen is distributed throughout Japan, including Tokyo, where the pollen is also radiation contaminated.
Pollen in Tokyo is contaminated as well | Fukushima Diary

The amount of radiation contaminated pollen flying around Japan is staggering. Just in Fukushima province in a one month period, over 400 TONS of cedar tree pollen are flying around during pollen season. Multiply that by 5 months, which would be 2,000 TONS of radiation contaminated pollen, adding all of the other provinces and 11 million hectares of cedar trees in Japan. It is easy to see how all of this radiation flying around starts adding up to mind boggling amounts of radiation being re-distributed all over Japan.  This study focuses just on one type of pollen. What if all of the flowers, plants and grasses also have radioactive pollen, as they more than likely do? Now multiply the total by orders of magnitude.

2 Dec 2011 – ...highly contaminated pollen from Fukushima.. (205.000 tons)...each 14 days.

LUNGS ARE VERY EFFICIENT AIR FILTERS, JUST LIKE FURNACE FILTERS IN HOME

The lungs and sinuses are nothing more than a mobile, walking, talking set of air filters. Filters collect pollen, dust and gases. Smokers lungs are evidence of how lungs absorb smoke particles, which are also radioactive, and how that radioactive smoke causes cancer longer term.

The lungs and sinuses have a set of protective mucus generating mechanisms, but none of them work against man made radioactive substances. Some of this pollen and dust is excreted via mucus, phlegm and sinus drainage, but the nano particles are so small and many of them are seen by the body as minerals, so the body absorbs them.

When the nano particles stick on the lung surface, they emit alpha, beta and gamma radiation. These particles act like miniature machine guns firing bullets in all directions, killing and mutating cells around each of those particles, whether they are radioactively contaminated pollen, plain 'hot' particles, or dust contaminated with radiation. All of these act in the same way, and all of them do damage or kill cells, plus mutating the DNA.

The DNA damage is invisible, not visible to anyone except for those who have very special high powered microscopes. Only a very few labs or research facilities have access to this special and very expensive technology. No one is researching DNA damage from low dose radiation from pollen, caused by nuclear accidents. The nuclear industry will not pay for studies that may use these microscopes to see what happens as the radioactive pollen interacts with lungs, sinuses and then is absorbed by the body, and what effect this has on the DNA, especially among children and babies, who are most vulnerable to radiation.

RADIATION CONTAMINATED POLLEN EFFECT ON HEALTH

Via prokop "If the cedar pollen gets absorbed by macrophages it may stay (in the body) for a long time. Caesium 137 emits high energy gamma rays during decay via a Barium intermediary. Therefore local doses may be much higher than stated. More research needs to be done....Some of the controversy about how penetrative pollen is, relates to particle size....when a pollen grain hits water (moist lung membrane) it disintegrates into sub-micronic particles...these may have very different properties to the parent pollen grain."

The same newspaper also mentions, in a different article, the risk of internal contamination by radioactive pollen from cedars (cryptomeria or in Japanese “sugi”). Many people are allergic to these during pollination – the risk here is much more serious.

POLLEN CARRYING INSECTS AND BIRDS ALSO CONTAMINATED WITH RADIATION

In one study of radioactive pollen, (link below) it was found that the radiation in the pollen was distributed by pollen carrying hummingbirds. But that also means that bees and other insects that feed on pollen and get it on their bodies can also become carriers of high amounts of radiation, potentially contaminating anything they land on, including the interiors of homes and people. At Hanford, if a single wasp landed on something radioactive, it got it's legs so contaminated, that if then flew into the mess hall and landed on a table, the entire mess hall would have to be evacuated and decontaminated.

Bee dying after eating radioactive pollen on flower
Video; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9mKFZqn5Q5M 7 min.

Bees are negatively affected by radioactive pollen as well, and this issue needs to be studied and reported on. Is this bee and other bees like it dying from chemicals on the flower, or from radioactive pollen?

The cedar pollen is highly mobile and consists of breathable, absorbable nano particles that are blown around for long distances by wind and settle on everything, including cars, people, homes, toys, playground equipment, work places, etc.. Many types and varieties of critters can move highly contaminated pollen from the trees to other places, including human habitations, such as flies, wasps, bees, birds, bats, and fur covered animals too. Fur is good for attracting and hold radioactive particles and pollen.

HUMMINGBIRDS SPREAD RADIATION FAR AND WIDE

Hummingbird Dispersal of Radioactive Iodine...
"While absolute amounts of I131 or pollen dispersed were not determined, monitor detection showed that radioactive pollen was dispersed to open flowers (more often to the brightest flowers higher on the plants), and not randomly to stems or unopened flower buds..."

Man made radioactive elements emit IONIZING radiation. Ionizing radiation creates free radicals, which then cause an inflammatory response in the body. Wouldn't you agree that it makes sense that allergies would get worse as the body is burdened with more and more heavy metal, allergy creating, radioactive pollen grains?  Studies could confirm this result, but radioactive particles cause an inflammatory response in the body, which can manifest in allergies, pain, or other health problems related to inflammation, and free radical damage effects.

FORESTS AS RADIOACTIVE CONTAMINATED WASTE DUMPING GROUNDS

Nature is normally considered to be a healing, healthy place, full of pure air, pure water and pure will food, berries, herbs and roots. But after a nuclear accident, thousands of square miles become contaminated with radiation. Fukushima was a much larger mega nuclear disaster than Chernobyl, and Chernobyl contaminated 30 square miles of forest so badly that it died; it was called the 'Red Forest' as all of the needles died, they turned red.  Trees were affected in a negative way in Japan as well.

FORESTS CONTAIN RADIATION CONTAMINATED MUSHROOMS, BERRIES, SEEDS, NUTS AND FRUITS

Thousands of square miles of forest were contaminated by both accidents to the point where many wild foods, berries, nuts, seeds and fruits now concentrate the radiation back up the food chain to people.

It is well known that around Chernobyl, certain kinds of berries, mushrooms and then the animals that eat those foods, such as deer and wild pigs are very contaminated. Wild animal radiation testing programs still exist in Europe to counter this threat. As hunters bring the game out of the forest, it is tested. If it tests high in radiation, it is confiscated and the government pays the hunter. Some animals, such as lichen eaters, deer and wild pig,  tend to concentrate the radiation very well, even from low levels.

And 41,500 hectares (42%) of forest land is in the area of radioactive contamination with 15 curies per square kilometer of radiation or more. Vietka. Gomel Region. Belarus."

The same thing is true in Japan, but they have not tested anything or studied this. They will assume it is all safe, until proven otherwise. Meanwhile, people will be gathering and eating radiation contaminated foods from the forests. Just because all of this radiation is invisible and cannot be detected by human senses, does not make it harmless.

Not only are forests around nuclear accidents already radioactive hot zones, they are going to become even more so, as the government and TEPCO transport and store radiation contaminated materials there in an effort to decontaminate areas that they want people to move back into.  In addition, TEPCO is spraying radiation contaminated water over large areas of forest, in an effort to 'dilute' the radiation contaminated water generated onsite.

JAPAN BURNING RADIOACTIVE WASTE, SPREADING RADIATION EVEN MORE

TEPCO and the Japanese government is also 'burning' the water by steaming it away in boilers, and burning radioactive waste material in incinerators, so that the radiation will theoretically be carried away by the wind and 'diluted' that way. They are also dumping the radioactive dirt and radioactive leaves into the rivers.

RIVERS USED AS DUMPS FOR RADIOACTIVE WASTE

Asahi: River turned brown after dumping radioactive waste into water — “I was following an order, I am sorry for polluting”

NHK; The decontamination companies also illegally dumped radioactively contaminated soil into the rivers, thus contaminating drinking water supplies and the ocean even more... (story was removed, which is a pattern repeated ad nauseum for just about negative that has to do with the nuclear industry)

TOKYO BAY USED AS NUCLEAR DUMP FOR RADIOACTIVE ASHES FROM INCINERATORS

The problem is that all of these methods just redistribute the radiation around and recontaminate areas already decontaminated. Dumping the radioactive ash in the Tokyo Bay just adds to the radioactive load in the bay and ocean, as well as surrounding beaches. Some of that radiation evaporates out of the ocean and goes back into the air, which then falls back to the ground via rain.

Citizens need to monitor all of this, because the incentive for government and the nuclear industry is to cover all of this up and deny anything bad is going on at all, which is exactly what they have been doing. The dangers from radiation contamination by both internal and external mechanisms are very real and will become more and more obvious as the years go by and the incubation times for diseases and cancers expire.

CITIZEN MONITORING NEEDED NEAR INCINERATORS, WILDNERNESS DUMP SITES

"I have recommended for us as citizens to monitor radioactivity also in our relatively spared areas, especially near incinerators and mountain spots where wild garbage dumps spoil forests (Cf. Mid-October Status Editorial in SurvivalJapan). It turns out that the government seems to be candid about its intention to pollute forests with radioactive waste as reported by Yomiuri Shimbun, a mainstream news media which article is reproduced hereafter. The same newspaper also mentions, in a different article, the risk of internal contamination by radioactive pollen from cedars (cryptomeria or in Japanese “sugi”). Many people are allergic to these during pollination – the risk here is much more serious."

RADIOACTIVE RICE STRAW

The Fukushima mega nuclear disaster also contaminated farm lands for many thousands of square miles around each nuclear disaster site, some much more than others. Some disasters have been covered up much better than others. There are radiation hot spots scattered randomly throughout Japan, but likewise, many areas of the planet are not radioactively contaminated by accidents in those areas. The plants and animals in those areas take up this radiation and accumulate it in their bodies, seeds, leaves and stems, including those that are eaten by animals or people, such as rice. The proof is that rice straw in Japan, which is left over after the rice is grown, is so radiation contaminated that it cannot be used or composted, and must be disposed of as radioactive waste.

"The Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Ministry has found that about 7,200 tons of rice straw have been stored in farmers’ warehouses and other places in eight prefectures, including Hokkaido, Miyagi and Fukushima, as it could not be disposed of."
http://survivaljapan.wordpress.com/2011/10/24/radioactive-forests/

Even if the farmland is decontaminated to let's say 10 bq/kg of soil, the plants grown in that soil will accumulate radiation up to 50, 100 or even higher amounts of bq/kg. The studies done around Chernobyl show that children especially can accumulate radiation internal burdens that go up to the 1,000's of bq/kg by eating even these small amounts of radiation in foods and drinks on a daily basis.

Just 50 bq/kg of interal cesium in a child will cause permanent lesions in internal organs and on the heart, threatening their health. This one fact alone is why all children should be monitored for internal radiation load via internal radiation scanning machines once a year, in any region within 500 miles of a radiation accident. It is insane to set maximum levels of radiation in food at 100 bq/kg, or 1,200 in the US.

RADIOACTIVE SEWAGE SLUDGE

The sludge from the water supply and sewage systems and the ash, which cannot be disposed of due to radiation contamination, totaled about 130,000 tons as of September in Tokyo and 14 other prefectures. According to an Environment Ministry estimate, up to 28 million cubic meters of contaminated soil in Fukushima Prefecture should be removed as it is assumed to have a radiation dosage of 5 millisieverts or higher per year....

RADIOACTIVE FARM, FOREST AND CITY SOIL

Some farms and lands are decontaminated by scraping the soil off, and then transporting it to a nuclear waste disposal facility. In Fukushima province, they are decontaminating areas around homes by scraping and collecting soil.

"If the soil is evenly piled up one meter high, the total area would be about 65 square kilometers, equivalent to half the area inside Tokyo’s Yamanote loop railway line."

SUMMARY

The amount of radioactive waste generated by the Fukushima disaster is so large, the human mind cannot take it in. Given that the disaster has been 99% covered up, denied and hidden, most people will not believe what is in this article, because it is so contrary to what is featured in the nightly news broadcasts on mass media TV in any given country.

Bottom line, the problems of allergies experienced by people will only grow worse with time, as the amount of background radiation increases, and as the number of nuclear accidents keeps piling up over time. But allergies are the least of the worries, as the man made radiation and heavy metal elements released by nuclear accidents cause cancers, birth defects, genetic diseases and worse going forward from here into the infinite future.

The circle of life includes humans AND trees. Trees are the lungs of the planet and help to moderate the weather. Every tree chopped down is like cutting out a piece of lung from a human being.

The web of life is being destroyed. Humans are in effect climbing out on a limb of a very tall tree and then turning around and sawing off the branch between them and the tree trunk.. The trees do not understand why humans are destroying the circle and web of life, with trees as the first victims, followed closely behind by animals, insects and humans.

The problems caused by man made radiation will get worse and worse, beyond the ability of the human mind to comprehend. Whether most people understand the nuclear industry is to blame is another matter, because they seem to be VERY good at hiding and denying the harm that they are causing, mostly because all man made radiation is completely invisible and undetectable, so everything still looks, feels, and sounds 'normal' even in the middle of a highly radiation contaminated area.
