Quakers Experiential Spiritual Deepening  End Of Year, Beginning Of New Year - A Time For Transforming Consciousness, Lighting Up Darkness Of The Unconscious - 4 Day Renewal, Rebirth, Release, And Deep Inner Listening Program - Meditation, Deep Walking, Sacred Writing, Playing, Creativity - Going Within

There is a universal awakening or birth happening in the global village, on many levels and in many dimensions. As this new 'birth' happens, there is also a dying process, as the old, obsolete, and unnecessary disappears both within us and without. Change is the only constant that we can count on. Nature provides us with the example of things dying, and then being reborn again. Within Nature there is a constant, ever changing process of growth and evolution, just as there is within all humans.

This article focuses on going deeper, on many levels and in many dimensions, through a process of quiet introspection.

What can be found by going deeper within?

THIS IS THE 'DARK NIGHT OF SOUL' TIME OF YEAR, IT IS THE BEST TIME TO GO DEEPER INSIDE

The following exercises are ideally to be done during the darkest, coldest part of the year, when it is also the shortest time of the year as far as daylight is concerned.

This is also the darkest night of the soul time of year, when it is best to go 'inside' and focus on the inner life, not the outer life.






































This is the time of year when there should be a period of (at least one day) of quiet introspection, stillness, and not talking.

Plan on at least one day dedicated to doing nothing, except to go inside and/or to just be. Plan to read inspiring books, meditate, and to do whatever comes to you in this time of stillness. Ideally, there are at least three days dedicated to the following experiential exercises.

What is your definition of the 'dark night of soul'? There is no right or wrong to this, as everyone is 'right' with their own definition.

 In this freedom where we move towards the inner light and embrace the darkness that is also part of us, mysterious things happen, such as soul healings. 

Soul wounds are invisible, but they do affect us. 



Many people are filled with stress, anxiety, depression, self loathing, or fear. Many people believe that going to church and finding God or being saved with turn this around, but then discover that something is still missing or that this does not work.

Some people believe that marrying someone will 'fix' everything and give fulfillment or meaning to life, but then find out that this is not working either, or there is still a feeling of something missing or wrong.

Some people believe that having children, buying a house and accumulating possessions will make things better, lead to a feeling of happiness, or fulfillment, but then they find that this does not work either, and that something still feels like it is missing or something is wrong.

Some people believe that working harder, working longer hours, getting a better job, or trying harder to be a financial and worldly success in terms of power, money, fame, honors or degrees will bring happiness, fulfillment, peace or joy, but then find out that this does not work either, except maybe in part. There is still a feeling of something missing or something is wrong.








































Some people feel that they can think negative thoughts forever, accumulate possessions, power, riches, or if they can blame, shame, attack, denigrate, get revenge, torture or kill other people. They will believe that this will provide meaning, value, peace, happiness or joy. In the end one may end up discovering that this also ends up with a feeling of or something is missing or that something is wrong.

Some people believe that they can 'save' or change others for the better, and that may involve religion, marriage, politics, business, community group, or other method. Some people believe that if only they try harder, and exert more pressure, force, manipulation, cheating, stealing, or pass more laws, or rig elections, or get absolute power, or if they shower the problem in an avalanche of money, that good things will happen, due to nothing but the 'best intentions'. In the end one may end up discovering that this also ends up with a feeling of or something is missing or that something is wrong.




Some people believe that they can fix things for the better, via threats, intimidation, anger, rage, violence, or force of will. In the end one may end up discovering that this also ends up with a feeling of or something is missing or that something is wrong.




Some people are confused and full of turmoil, unable to see the forest for the many trees. Some people are stuck in negative emotions and thoughts, with no seeming way out, and a worsening downward spiral into a chaotic black hole. Some people use drugs, psychics, or other drastic outer methods to try and have other people 'fix' these things. Then they may end up discovering that this also ends up with a feeling of or something is missing or wrong.

Some people believe that a violent revolution is required, with force of arms, killing, weapons or war. But this kind of revolution only results in militarism, racism, and capitalism, which then leads into worse suffering. The way out is via the revolution of consciousness, which is within.






































Some people start believing that after they try all of the above, that they cannot escape the inner turmoil, and cannot feel better, and cannot shake that feeling of something missing, an empty hole inside, which manifests also as depression, anxiety, stress, worry, fear, anger, hatred, jealousy or whatever. What if there was a way 'out' of this emotional turmoil within?

Especially during times when life feels like a losing battle with no hope on the horizon due to addictions to alcohol, drugs, or whatever else, that is the best time to do a retreat and go inside. (It also helps to ask for help from  a mental health counselor, attend a 12 step group,etc.) Waking up is hard to do, when the monsters are in control of us, and run our thoughts, emotions, and possibly even our actions in many unconscious ways that we may not even be aware of. What is the gift that the darkness inside brings? What is the benefit of our wounds?

Harness the power of the wounds, loss, turmoil, addiction and imperfection, by merging with the darkness, exploring it, and going deeper into the darkness with a positive goal, instead of resisting, suppressing, ignoring, denying or fighting the darkness within. Instead of blaming, shaming, projecting, and feeling guilty, go within, and healing the division.

The wound is where the light shines in.

Go there, where there is more awareness, more consciousness, more presence.

Waking up, and going within can be hard, challenging and difficult work. Exploring our dark unconscious side or things like addictions, imperfections, weaknesses, or seeming 'defects' is even more scary and intimidating.

There are many ways to look at or experience unconditional love, within this program. Whatever comes up, is there to release, and then integrate. If it hurts, that is ok, just don't get stuck in hopelessness, fear, anger, hatred or whatever other feeling. Ask for and get help, because the help is out there if and when you need it.

EVERYONE HAS A SHADOW SIDE, WHICH CONSISTS IN PART OF A FEELING OF SOMETHING MISSING, EMPTINESS, STRESS, ANXIETY, OR HIDDEN TRAUMAS, ADDICTIONS, ETC.

Everyone has a shadow side and/or trauma, which can also be called 'the valley of darkness'. This is the time to recognize, bring to the surface, heal and integrate the trauma and/or shadow side. Giving birth is just that.. birthing. It can be messy, chaotic, dark and yes, even painful. Going deeper into the darkness within can be fun, but there are growing pains. Don't stop... keep going.

Denial and projection are the result of pushing down the thoughts and/or emotions that we resist and do not like.



'Resistance' is futile, and only results in more suffering, harm to self and others via projection. Why not ask for more awareness of where there is resistance, denial and/or projection, so that it can be released and that energy can then be used for healing, positivity, and growth/evolution/transformation?

Remember that as a person does this going within and releasing/integrating process, that it is the equivalent on an emotional or spiritual level of physical surgery. Give yourself plenty of time after doing any or all of these experiential exercises to rest, integrate and heal, just like after a physical surgery. Drink plenty of water so that the body can flush out toxins that are released on all levels.

Remember also that the the law of Karma is just one of many Natural Laws, which can be used to either benefit us or if violated, can cause negative consequences, suffering or worse. Learning more about Natural Laws can only benefit us individually and collectively, because violations of Natural Laws will result in suffering or worse.

PREPARATION FOR RENEWAL, REBIRTH AND RELEASE PROGRAM


It may help to get the following together before you start this multi day renewal, rebirth and release 'program'. The absolute minimum required to do most of this experiential exercise are loose sheets of paper and a writing instrument. 

1. An empty notebook or journal (Label it Renewal, Rebirth, Release Program) or special fast dissolving paper, if water is going to be used instead of fire for the release ceremony.

2. A favorite writing tool

3. Print out or access this experiential exercise online

A pair of scissors

Some blank craft paper

A couple of magazines with lots of pictures with a wide variety of subject matter in them, such as National Geographic for example.

Kids glue stick (the kind that looks like lip gloss)

Candle(s), fire proof candle holders, and matches or battery operated candles (optional)

1 Gallon purified water (for optional water release ceremony)

Incense and holder (optional)

One or more books that focus on your inner life; spirituality, imagination, creativity, God, Higher Power, or books listed below, or take along others such as the 4 Agreements, shamanism. Focus on whatever books or writings that you feel drawn to at this moment in time etc.

Healing modalities; if you are sick, have a cold or flu, take along your favorite healing modalities such as herbs, teas,  vitamins, homeopathy, yoga mat, meditation cushion, quiet music, etc.

Coffee can, OR stainless steel bowl, OR grill, OR fireplace, OR wood stove, OR some other place to burn several pieces of paper safely. A large bowl can also be used for holding water, in combination with fast dissolving special paper, made for this purpose, if a water release is desired. No fire is needed.

Arrange a time and place for at least part of 3 different days, when you can completely unplug from everything and everyone. This exercise can be done at any time of year, but the best overall time is at the end of one year, or at the beginning of the next, at least 3 days before Jan. 12th. The release ceremony can be done on any full moon day during the year. 

Ideally you can arrange a cabin the woods, a retreat center, a campground, or vacation home that is away from your normal busy, noisy tech filled world. Each day will have a different focus. Take these days one at a time. You will also need a day to get there and unwind, and another day to travel back if you go somewhere else. So this total program may take 5 days total, not including the release ceremony, which should not take that long.

January 12; fire or water ceremony and releasing

Theoretically, this whole program could be done starting on Jan 9th, and continuing on Jan. 10th, 11th, 12th. But it could also take 12 days if a person wanted to start on Jan 1st, or longer if this program is started in December.

The release ceremony can be done on any full moon night, at any time of the year.

DAY 1; FOCUS ON THE PAST 


On the first day of this program, prepare first by getting a journal or a notepad plus your favorite writing instrument. Then get into a quiet place where there are no phones, no TV and no distractions, plus no people talking. Get into the mood by lighting a candle and/or incense. 

Sit and get comfortable. Take a few deep breaths, and sit in silence for a minimum of several minutes, but see if you can sit in silence for up to an hour. There are no rules here. If you feel like walking in Nature for part of the day, do that. If you feel like meditating for most of the day, do that. If you feel like reading books most of the day, do that. If you feel like writing, drawing, and journaling, do that. 

Experience the FREEDOM that comes with you taking one day or three days off, completely for yourself, and going deeper into just Being in the moment.

Let yourself relax, daydream and let your mind plus thoughts drift into the past. 

As you focus on the past while sitting in the silence, ask the following questions. 

Close your eyes, as you sit in silence, but open your eyes, and write as you get answers. 

Then go back into the silence and focus on the question, until you are done with it, and move on to the next focus.

Even if you do not take the whole day to focus on the past, complete as many of the following questions as possible, as they lead into the next sections, plus build on what is gained here.

Like any birth, it is easy to focus on the pain, suffering and to project a terminal plus completely awful 'end' of a pregnancy, while missing completely the miraculous birth process that is happening in the same exact instant. It is all a matter of focus. Which way do we want to focus?

Do we want to stay focused on the outside and excessive worrying/thinking and on the past?  Or do we want to focus on the inside, freedom from thoughts, negative emotions and on a transformative birthing process? Whichever way we focus, we will have plenty of agreement, support and 'evidence' for our particular point of view.

MORNING EXERCISE; FAST FROM NOISE, WORLDLY THINGS AND TALKING, PREFERABLE FOR THE WHOLE DAY, OR FOR AS LONG AS POSSIBLE, MAYBE EVEN GET CLEARER BY SEEING BETWEEN THOUGHTS INTO THE INFINITE STILLNESS 


A deeper way to practice being PRESENT is to spend the whole day or as much as you can reasonably accomplish in SILENCE. In other words, don't watch TV, don't listen to radio, don't read newspapers or watch anything 'worldly', even with the sound turned off. Turn inward and practice being SILENT for as long as you can during an entire day, preferably in the company of others doing the same thing. Unhook entirely from the mass media, all electronics, including your cellphone and message service.

Fast from thinking, talking, noise, haste, stress, anxiety, worry, and possibly even from food if you are led to do this. (Check with your physician first.) Practice just being, without thinking, worrying, stressing or anxiety.

DAY 2; EXPERIENTIAL EXERCISE IN PRESENT MOMENT MINDFULNESS



Be focused on the present moment when eating, drinking or walking in Nature.

Go to a local park where there are lots of trees and quiet. Spend some time walking where it is quiet, where there is only wilderness, Nature and a serene setting.

A more ambitious method is to go to a retreat center for several days, or to go into a national park, and take a longer hike, into the wilderness. (Stay safe and prepare properly. Check with a ranger and get permits if needed. Tell others what you are doing, where you are going and when you will return.)

Do not focus on the past, or the future. If you find your mind going to either of these places, gently bring it back into the present moment.

Go for a walk in Nature, SILENTLY, and notice the present moment experience. 

Try not to think about the past or future at all. Stay in the moment and notice the tastes, smells, textures, colors, sights, sounds and other things or beings around you. Go deeper into the present moment.

It may be that you are led to expand your boundaries of what you think is possible.. such as communicating with animals or plants.

Who is this that is thinking, and experiencing?

Notice how anxiety or other emotions may follow the these thoughts.

Just allow the thoughts to flow. Do not judge. Just observe impartially, from a neutral position, as if you were watching a play from above you, and you are the lead actor in the play called;

In the first part of this wonderful day today, access the Inner Child with an exercise in imagination, creativity and going deeper within to play with your inner child.

Get a pair of scissors, some blank paper, a couple of magazines with lots of pictures in them, and some kids stick glue (the kind that looks like lip gloss).

Focus on your present and cut out pictures that fit together in whatever way, to 'draw' a collage. Start with the present moment and any feelings or pictures that come up while doing this.

Use the glue stick and the craft paper to create a collage that represents your present moment Inner Child, who is playing, dreaming, feeling and creating in innocence, unconditional love and purity.

Draw, paint or collage a future world that comes from the Inner Child, not what your adult logical mind thinks is needed, necessary or logical.

There are no limits and there are no rules. You can focus on just one collage, or you can do two of them if you felt like to, in order to represent different aspects, or pieces of yourself, such as your Inner Child. There may be more than one imagination based creative play expression.

Invite your inner child to come out and play with you, before starting on this project.. Close your eyes, and imagine your inner child doing this activity and having fun with it.. Then do it.

Get creative and don't think. Just BE the Inner Child.

Let your INNER CHILD come out to play, and have FUN.

Be happy, with no thoughts at all, if possible. 

Don't over think this. Just DO and BE. 

Take as much time as you like and follow where this leads, as it may go deeper over several hours and/or days.

Remember that this is PLAY, and FUN, not a logic/mind based project, with goals, plans or outcomes. 

Feel what the Inner Child FEELS and draw or express that in whatever way comes up. 

An alternative may be to get out crayons and just draw random shapes, colors, lines, or whatever the Inner Child wants to do. 

Another alternative may be to just dance, sing, play a silly game, or whatever other thing comes up that the Inner Child wants to do. 

Walk and talk with your Inner Child and have a conversation with it. Ask your Inner Child questions, as you would any child that you love and hold dear. 

Later in the day, there is an opportunity to participate in a guided meditation that goes deeper into your Inner Child, with some healing work.

JANUARY 12 -  RELEASE RITUAL

All of the above should be done at the end of year, ideally during the time of the decreasing or New Moon, which is the darkest part of the year, when the moon is not visible at all, and it is the coldest part of the year, and it is also the shortest time of the year as far as daylight. This is the dark night of the soul time of year, when it is best to go 'inside' and focus on the inner life, not the outer life. Because it is highly likely that you will start this program at the end of the year or at the latest on the 1st of January, and release it all on the 12th of January, this is effectively a 12 day program.

It can also be done after the major holiday, but before Jan. 12th. 



























As part of this exercise you are getting ready to release what no longer serves you, either symbolically or in actual real life. You may choose to unclutter, remove, or cut ties. You may choose to change your life in some form or fashion, and let go of car, home, another person, relationship, etc.

Take your remove and release list and keep it in a safe place until January 12th, the night of the Full Moon.

Now you are ready for your burning and releasing ceremony, whether alone or with others. Do this step safely. Use your coffee can, stainless steel bowl/cooking pot, or whatever else works to burn paper safely. Keep the flames, sparks and papers where they cannot be blown away and start a larger fire. If you have a working fireplace, with a fire already in it, that is the perfect place to do this ceremony.

An alternative to a fire release, is to write everything on special small slips of paper that instantly dissolve in water. Use a large decorative bowl containing purified water, and use a wooden stirring stick such as a chopstick to help dissolve the paper. This method can be used indoors where fire is not allowed. 

Take your piece(s) of paper one at a time, crumple them up, and say out loud or silently within;

I release................... I no longer need...................... in my life. If it is a person, say; I release................. to their better/higher future, and forgive them/myself completely, absolutely.

This or something better, not my will, but the greater will be done.  Visualize and feel the thing/person moving out of your life completely, and/or being transformed into something positive. 

Now focus on your positives; take your dreams, goals and projects copied list, and visualize/feel these wish lists coming to you, and/or manifesting in the darkness.

It's only the faintest line we cross, and then we're Here, beyond all dualities, as the Source and Sustainer of all particulars. Then with the slightest shift of attention, again we're in the midst of limitation.

The difference between limitation and the Unlimited is the key. As the unlimited Self, the limited is what we do, not what is done to us. Each thing we experience, including this thought, is our nature, what we do. Enjoy the adventure.

Each day we have a variety of experiences, some pleasing, some painful, some familiar, some entirely new, always a changing adventure. Who has these experiences, who is the unchanging, infinite Experiencer?

Sacred syllables detach and free me from the limitations of particulars, providing swift intercourse with the Wholeness of the Infinite, the Unlimited.

Our infinite Presence, our Wholeness, is the unlimited dimension of every moment.

We are the Freedom and Wholeness of the Unlimited, and the creative adventure of the partial, the particular.

The Whole is open, the particular is closed. The Whole is simple and straight, the particular crooked, complex. There is a time for knowing each.

It’s time for me to know the Presence of the Whole in the midst of the adventure of the partial.
