#JonesAct - Getting Rid Of Jones Act Is What Extreme Right Wing Republican Think Tanks, Politicians And Union Hating Libertarians Want; Don't Get Sucked In By The Propaganda Or America Will Lose Potentially Millions Of Jobs To Foreign Workers

There is a huge fake news story going around both in liberal and conservative circles around the Jones Act. The ridiculous claim that repealing the Jones Act will help hurricane victims is made up by conservatives to destroy the US merchant marine serving on US ships.

Get rid of the Jones Act, and you open the door to replacing all US sailors, merchant marines and engineers on US ships with FOREIGN WORKERS, who work for $1,000 or less per month, with NO UNION. Don't believe the hype and misinformation.. Conservatives are using the suffering around natural disasters to bring in a Trojan Horse into America. If the Trojan Horse is accepted and the Jones Act is repealed, it will result in getting rid of one of the few union segments left in the US that creates middle income wages and solid employment that cannot be outsourced, unless the Jones Act is repealed.

DESPITE BEING PART OF AMERICA, AND BEING US CITIZENS, PUERTO RICO CITIZENS DON'T HAVE THE 'RIGHT' TO VOTE; HOW IS THAT NOT UNCONSTITUTIONAL?

DHS SAYS GETTING RID OF JONES ACT IS NOT NEEDED AND IS NOT BEING ASKED FOR

EXTENDED JONES ACT WAIVER NOT NEEDED FOR PUERTO RICO: DHS

The Jones Act limits shipping between U.S. coasts to U.S. flagged vessels and is backed by shipping and security interests. Opponents of the law say it adds costs to shipping of basic goods such as fuel, food and clothing to Puerto Rico and Hawaii that are passed on to consumers.

“We believe that extending the waiver is unnecessary to support the humanitarian relief efforts on the island,” said David Lapan, a Homeland spokesman.

Lapan said Homeland has not received any requests from commercial interests to waive the Jones Act and that the Department of Defense has not requested an extension of the waiver.

“There is an ample supply of Jones Act-qualified vessels to ensure that cargo is able to reach Puerto Rico,” Lapan said.

The argument is that unions are 'bad' or 'evil' because the workers are getting paid too much.. Really?

What is the track record, evidence and data show?

What happens after unions are dismantled in red states, which substitute 'right to work' laws instead of union protections and worker rights?

REPUBLICANS LIKE MCCAIN AND CONSERVATIVE THINK TANKS FAVOR GETTING RID OF JONES ACT AND ABOLISHING ALL UNIONS IN AMERICA, BECAUSE IT CREATES SLAVE LABOR ALL OVER THE PLANET, INCLUDING INSIDE THE USA

Notice how it is only Republicans who are saying things against unions and protecting US workers who are working on US ships, which then benefits America, via middle class workers? What is their problem with unions and middle class workers?

the FEMA direct at the White House announced today that there was no need to waive or get rid of the Jones Act, as there were sufficient ships and people to bring in whatever was needed. The only bottleneck was at the port, and inland from there, due to blocked roads, no power, no gas, no drivers.. Notice how very few or no Republicans are talking about these things, but they don't hesitate to blame union members and the law protecting them..

Senator Tim Kaine ‏Verified account @timkaine We should be doing anything, everything to help #PuertoRico. If waiving the Jones Act short-term helps, we should absolutely do it.

John McCain‏ Verified account @SenJohnMcCain Sep 27 Shipping industry supports #JonesAct b/c it's protectionist. #PuertoRico deserves better than policy decisions driven by special interests.

Marco Rubio ‏Verified account @marcorubio "Jones Act" should be waived for #PuertoRico as it has been for every major storm since #Katrina Have reason to believe being reconsidered

Outright repeal of the Jones Act law has already been backed by the Heritage Foundation, Cato Institute, Manhattan Institute.

WHEN HUGE CORPORATIONS, REPUBLICAN THINK TANKS AND CONSERVATIVE POLITICIANS ALL BAND TOGETHER TO GET RID OF UNIONS IN AMERICA, WHAT HAPPENS TO INCOME, BENEFITS AND WORKER RIGHTS?

When huge corporations, Republicans and Conservative think tanks plus the mass media are all working to destroy US unions, what would one expect to see?

The same as it ever was.. as unions disappear, income, benefits and worker rights also disappear. The Jones Act protects US workers working on US ships. Many to most of those jobs are represented by US unions, who also work hard to keep up the wages and benefits that huge globalist corporations are trying to get rid of. If the Jones Act is repealed, say goodbye to more union jobs, union wages and benefits, along with worker rights and US workers working on US ships, as all of that will go away, permanently. Once it is gone, it can never come back and slaves working for slave wages will be the norm.

Union membership keeps on dropping, and is now down to 6 percent from a high of over 30 percent in the 1950's.

Is it any wonder that the middle class is disappearing, due to loss of middle income union jobs, which are being outsourced or destroyed directly by huge globalist corporations, like Walmart and Amazon, and the politicians advocated repeal of the Jones Act?

MCCAIN IS LYING AND TRYING TO GET AMERICANS TO BRING IN THE TROJAN HORSE CALLED 'REPEAL THE JONES ACT', AS IT WILL DESTROY MORE OF AMERICA AND GET OF US JOBS FOR US WORKERS

THE JONES ACT IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR TRUMP’S FAILURE IN PUERTO RICO
SEPTEMBER 28, 2017 A GREEN ROAD DAILY NEWS
I have been continually chagrined today to see so many folks here adopt right wing conservative talking points regarding the Jones Act. Waiving and getting rid of the Jones Act has been a republican wet dream for decades now. Why — because it protects American industry, unions, and jobs from foreign outsourcing by vulture capitalists.

The Jones Act is not what is preventing relief in Puerto Rico, Donald Trump is — waiving it — would have no effect on relief efforts. Sending the Navy and Army in full force would help tremendously — Waiving the Jones Act — not a damn bit!

The Jones Act does not prevent the importation of relief goods from other nations. Any nation (e.g., Mexico, Peru, United Kingdom) is able to send supplies directly to Puerto Rico. The Jones Act doesn’t have a word to say about foreign imports. It simply says that if you ship a commodity (this includes our domestic fisheries) from a US port to another US port, you need to use a US boat (built in US), a US crew (75%), and a US captain.

John McCain’s lie that the act doubles the cost of goods is just another republican lie to frame the Jones Act in a negative way. Puerto Rico should be getting free relief supplies from the rest of the US as this is a humanitarian crisis and Jones Act influence on the cost of commercial goods is irrelevant to the current situation.

TRUMP SUSPENDS JONES ACT, BUT SUPPLIES STILL FAIL TO REACH VICTIMS IN PUERTO RICO; BECAUSE THIS WAS A FAKE NEWS STORY WITH NO MERIT, BUT MASS MEDIA IS STILL PUSHING THIS 'STORY' THAT JONES ACT IS STILL AT FAULT

TRUMP FINALLY SUSPENDS THE JONES ACT WHILE SUPPLIES STILL FAIL TO REACH MUCH OF PUERTO RICO

While the White House has finally decided to allow foreign built or flagged ships to deliver supplies during the emergency, there’s another group it has banned from the island.

The Trump administration is restricting members of Congress from making official visits as part of official delegations to the hurricane-battered U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico, congressional sources from both parties said Wednesday. …

The office of Sen. Bob Menendez, D-N.J., who had been organizing a visit to Puerto Rico by several representatives and senators from both parties, “is now trying to figure out alternatives to make this happen, as the situation on the island is extremely dire,” a spokesperson said.

“My boss is eager to get down there to assess the federal response thus far,” the spokesperson said.

The San Juan Airport is open, though the speed of flights going in and out is severely restricted by the damaged infrastructure. The argument that restricting Congressional flights is necessary because of conditions has some validity—though it has the notable side effect of preventing any Congressional oversight or evaluation of conditions on the ground.

1.2 MILLION PEOPLE ARE EMPLOYED AT SEA IN THE MARITIME INDUSTRY, AND THE VULTURE CAPITALISTS WANT ALL OF THEM TO BE FOREIGN WORKERS, WHO END UP WITH PEANUTS FOR WAGES, NO BENEFITS, NO UNION AND NO RIGHTS

According to the Maritime Industry Foundation’s Maritime Knowledge Center, there are approximately 1.2 million people currently employed at sea in the maritime industry! This doesn’t take into account all of the employees working in related maritime jobs on shore, such as those in the Navy or those working at docks. The maritime industry is booming, and it is still much less expensive that travel or transport by plane. The MIKC also reports that 90% of the world’s trade is done by ship. How’s that for an “old fashioned” industry? The maritime world is not dead.

Are you in favor of not protecting US workers on US ships, working from US ports? If you are in favor of eliminating or 'suspending' the Jones Act, those companies will quickly fire all US workers, and replace them with people from places like Communist China, because they will work for peanuts, with no union allowed.

IF THE GLOBALIST VULTURE CAPITALISTS ARE ALLOWED TO GET RID OF THE JONES ACT, IT WILL PUT BETWEEN 78,000 TO 1.2 MILLION AMERICANS OUT OF WORK; THEY WILL BE REPLACED BY CHEAP FOREIGN WORKERS, WORKING FOR SLAVE WAGES, IN NON UNION JOBS, IS THIS MAGA?

Get rid of the Jones Act and up to 1.2 MILLION AMERICAN citizen maritime, merchant marines and engineers lose their jobs to cheap foreign slave labor working on US ships, in US ports.

Huge corporations want to get rid of 'expensive' US workers and substitute foreign workers who will make a small fraction of the pay, with no benefits, no union, no protection and no worker rights, as happens in Communist China.

What industry are you working in? How much do you make per year? How many benefits do you receive? What worker protections or union representation do you receive? Are you in favor of eliminating any protection for US workers at your job, and allowing foreign workers to come in and replace you, just because they will work for 1/10th of what you make?

If the Jones Act disappears, then every US worker on a US ship will lose their job, because those companies will then be 'allowed' to hire foreign workers, who will work for a slave wage of $1,000 per month, with no benefits, no protection and no rights.

Did you know that the Jones Act protects US union workers, against foreign cheap non union labor on US ships only in US ports? Funny how they don't mention that part.

Republicans like McCain, Conservative think tanks, Libertarians, plus huge corporate ship fleet owners want to get rid of the Jones Act, so they can dismantle the last lonely little maritime unions, and replace all US ship workers with cheap foreign workers on US ships.

Protect US jobs. Protect the Jones Act. It is despicable how people like McCain and other Republicans are using a hurricane disaster and the suffering of millions of people to dismantle unions, and get rid of US worker protections.

This Republican dirty trick is just another example of how American unions are being dismantled one at a time, with lies, deception, misinformation, while using emotional trigger words, (propaganda).

Union membership has gone from over 30 percent to less than 6 percent in the USA today. By comparison, the union membership is about 90 percent in Iceland, and they are doing GREAT financially speaking. The middle class is made up mostly of union jobs in any country that any person may care to look at.

How would you like it, if foreign slave labor, with no union rep, no benefits, no minimum wage, and cheap slave labor products from Communist China came in and took over your industry, no matter what it is? If you like this, then by all means, get rid of ALL US unions and the Jones Act.

Meanwhile, both Democrats AND Republicans voted in a HUGE increase of money for the military industrial complex via social welfare and entitlements payments, without any explanation about where that money is coming from. What justifies this huge increase? There is no active state of declared war. There is only Trump generated fear mongering and scaring people with threats of nuclear war with North Korea, Iran, etc.

AIRLINES AND TRAINS AND TRUCK COMPANIES PROTECT US WORKERS, AND ALSO DO NOT ALLOW FOREIGN WORKERS TO JUST COME INTO AMERICA AND TAKE AWAY US JOBS, ESPECIALLY UNION JOBS THAT SUPPORT THE MIDDLE CLASS FAMILIES IN AMERICA

MarEng Sep 27 · The Jones Act is about maritime cabotage. We have the same thing with air flights. Air Canada, for example, cannot carry passengers from L.A. to San Francisco, for example.

Nor Japan Airlines, nor Lufthansa, nor any other foreign operator. A U.S. airline cannot carry passengers between Vancouver, B.C., and Toronto, for example. Other nations do the same to protect their carriers and workers. And, we have the same thing for trucking except where excepted by treaty...NAFTA, for example. And the same thing for rail.

A waiver can be granted for situation of commercial crisis. Foreign oil tank ships were granted temporary Jones Act waivers to carry crude oil and oil products after Hurricane Harvey upset everything in the Gulf."

REPUBLICANS BROKE ALL OF THE RULES TO RAM THROUGH NEIL GORSUCH, NOW HE IS PAYING BACK THE 'FAVOR' OF THE 1 PERCENT APPOINTING HIM, BY KILLING ALL REMAINING UNIONS IN THE USA

For those who need more proof that Republicans like Trump and his cabal that surround him are destroying what is left of America, here it is...

Hours after the Supreme Court announced it would again hear a challenge to mandatory union fees for public sector workers — a case that could ultimately decimate organized labor — Justice Neil Gorsuch traveled to Trump Hotel to speak to a conservative group funded by the same big money donors looking to diminish unions.

Gorsuch’s Thursday stop was part of what looks to be a thank you tour of various conservative groups who helped hold up President Barack Obama’s high court nominee, Merrick Garland, to make way for Gorsuch’s controversial nomination. He was introduced at the Trump Hotel event by a member of Trump’s administration, Bureau of Legislative Affairs staffer Mary Elizabeth Taylor. Politico described Taylor as “a so-called sherpa for Gorsuch on Capitol Hill during the confirmation process,” noting that “Gorsuch warmly embraced her as he took the stage.”

Setting aside the glaring conflict of interest in Gorsuch helping to enrich a Trump property just as several cases charging that the president is violating the Emoluments Clause of the Constitution are making their way through the judicial system, the group he addressed is funded by the same people funding the effort to dismantle unions that Gorsuch and his fellow justices agreed to take up.

As New York Times labor reporter Noam Scheiber noted, the Fund For American Studies’ is partially supported by the Lynde and Harry Bradley Foundation, a tax-exempt, non-profit foundation that is pouring money into the national anti-union movement.
