Notice that the meat contains cholesterol, and the beans don't contain any. This is a basic truth that most doctors and the mass media won't point at or mention, because there is a HUGE amount of profit in selling high cholesterol food items, which cannot be pointed out. If a person wants to reduce their cholesterol level, the easiest way to do this is by modifying the diet away from animal products that contain lots of cholesterol.

TREATMENT OF HIGH CHOLESTEROL | ANDREW WEIL, M.D.
Dr. Weil recommends making the following lifestyle and dietary changes in order to lower high cholesterol levels:

Lose weight. Even a modest amount of weight loss can lower cholesterol levels.
Reduce the amount of sugar and flour in your diet. Recent evidence indicates that added sugar – in the form of table sugar (sucrose) or high-fructose corn syrup – is probably a greater contributor to heart disease than is consumption of saturated fat. This suggests that the inflammatory hypothesis may in fact have more validity than the conventional lipid hypothesis, although the debate is far from settled. As a general rule, Dr. Weil advises against consuming foods with added sugars, particularly soft drinks and highly processed snack foods, which can cause rapid spikes and dips in blood sugar levels. The result can be overeating, obesity and heart disease.

Avoid trans-fatty acids. These heart-damaging fats can reduce HDL (“good”) cholesterol levels and raise levels of LDL (“bad”) cholesterol. The tip-off that trans-fatty acids are present in foods is the listing of “partially hydrogenated oil” on a food’s ingredient list. Trans-fats are found in many brands of margarine and in most heavily processed foods, as well as in snack foods such as chips, crackers and cookies, and in the oils used to cook fast-food French fries, doughnuts and movie popcorn.

Exercise. Daily aerobic exercise can help increase HDL levels.

Don’t smoke. Smoking itself is a risk factor for heart disease. It can also significantly lower HDL cholesterol.

Relax. Emotional stress may prompt the body to release fat into the bloodstream, raising cholesterol levels. Counter stress by practicing daily breathing exercises and other stress-reduction techniques such as yoga, meditation, guided imagery or tai chi.

CASHEWS LOWER BLOOD CHOLESTEROL | BERKELEY WELLNESS
Cashews can help improve blood cholesterol levels, according to a study in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.

For four weeks, 51 healthy people, all with elevated LDL (“bad”) cholesterol, ate a typical American diet including either cashews (1 to 2 ounces a day, supplying 11 percent of total daily calories) or a similar amount of potato chips; then they switched diets for another four weeks. The diets were designed to maintain body weight. When participants ate cashews, their total cholesterol dropped by about 4 percent and their LDL by 5 percent; there were no significant effects when they ate chips.

POMEGRANATE FOUND TO PREVENT CORONARY ARTERY DISEASE PROGRESSION

A study published in the journal Atherosclerosis confirms that pomegranate extract may prevent and/or reverse the primary pathology associated with cardiac mortality: the progressive thickening of the coronary arteries caused by the accumulation of fatty materials known as atherosclerosis.[i]

Mice with a genetic susceptibility towards spontaneous coronary artery blockages were given pomegranate extract via their drinking water for two weeks, beginning at three weeks of age. Despite the fact that pomegranate treatment actually increased cholesterol levels associated with very low density lipoprotein-sized particles, the treatment both reduced the size of the atherosclerotic plaques in the aortic sinus (the dilated opening above the aortic valve) and reduced the proportion of coronary arteries with occlusive atherosclerotic plaques.

Remarkably, the researchers also found that pomegranate extract treatment resulted in the following 7 beneficial effects:

Reduced levels of oxidative stress
Reduced monocytie chemotactic protein-1, a chemical messenger (chemokine) associated with inflammatory processes within the arteries.
Reduced lipid accumulation in the heart muscle
Reduced macrophage infiltration in the heart muscle

Psyllium. Fiber is a great cholesterol-buster and part of a healthy diet. Fiber also helps lower triglycerides and total cholesterol, especially for people with type 2 diabetes. There is no substitute for getting enough fiber from foods like vegetables, fruits, and whole grains; however if your cholesterol is high despite a healthy diet, psyllium can help.

If a person wants to reduce their cholesterol level, the easiest way to do this is by modifying the diet away from animal products that contain lots of cholesterol. 

Bottom line, eat less animal land based foods, like milk, eggs, beef, and cheese. Switch to a more organic plant food based diet, rich in minerals, vitamins, and co factors.

By switching to a vegetarian or vegan diet, cholesterol levels will go down, and if done properly, health will improve. The environment will thank you as well, since an animal food based diet actually causing more global warming than a high fossil fuel use lifestyle.
