Grinch Effect - Republicans Shut Down Government 3 Times In 2 Years Despite Having Control Of All Branches Of Government And Breaking Historical Rules, Just To Forcibly Get Their Way - Holding Nation Hostage - Costing Economy Up To 2.2 Trillion Dollars -  A Border Wall Fiasco

THE HISTORY OF REPUBLICAN PARTY LED SHUT DOWNS OF US GOVERNMENT; THEY KEEP ON DOING IT, JUST BECAUSE THEY CAN HOLD THE ENTIRE US HOSTAGE TO GET THEIR WAY, VIA THE GRINCH EFFECT, TAKING THINGS AWAY TO GET THEIR WAY

DAILKOS: The Dark Truth Of John Boehner's Resignation
If anyone doubts that this is where we are increasingly headed, Steve Benen has a useful summary of the growing history of Republicans' "hostage governing":
* April 2011: House Republicans threaten a government shutdown unless Democrats accept GOP demands on spending cuts.

* July 2011: Republicans create the first-ever debt-ceiling crisis, threatening to default on the nation’s debts unless Democrats accept GOP demands on spending cuts.

* September 2011: Republicans threaten another shutdown.

* April 2012: Republicans threaten another shutdown.

* December 2012: Republicans spend months refusing to negotiate in the lead up to the so-called “fiscal cliff.”

* January 2013: Republicans raise the specter of another debt-ceiling crisis.

* September 2013: Republicans threaten another shutdown.

* October 2013: Republicans actually shut down the government.

* February 2014: Republicans raise the specter of another debt-ceiling crisis.

* December 2014: Republicans threaten another shutdown.

* February 2015: Republicans threaten a Department of Homeland Security shutdown.

* September 2015: Republicans threaten another shutdown [over Planned Parenthood].

IS HOLDING THE ENTIRE NATION HOSTAGE TO GET THEIR WAY FOR THE BENEFIT OF A SMALL 1 PERCENT MINORITY REALLY THE BEST WAY TO RUN A GOVERNMENT?

Is this a way to run the government that is supposed to be ruled by and for the people?

Why do Republicans feel such a need to hold the whole nation hostage unless they get their way? Is this fair, reasonable or just?

Why are no other democracies allowed to do this, because it is not considered democratic? They don't allow threatening to shut down government. They don't allow actually forcing government to shut down.

Why is the USA the only 'civilized' nation on the planet that allows this kind of kidnapping and holding a whole nation hostage?

POLITICIANS SALARIES AND BENEFITS ARE EXEMPT FROM ANY GOVERNMENT SHUT DOWN; WHY IS THAT?

Congress Is Still Pulling $174,000 Salaries During the Government Shutdown
QUOTE DECEMBER 29, 2018 A GREEN ROAD DAILY NEWS LEAVE A COMMEN
“Next time we have a gov shutdown, Congressional salaries should be furloughed as well,” tweeted Rep.-elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.). “It’s completely unacceptable that members of Congress can force a government shutdown on partisan lines and then have Congressional salaries exempt from that decision. Have some integrity.”

The average Congress member makes makes $174,000 annually (minority and majority leaders make $193,400). And, according to Quartz, the median net worth of representatives is $900,000 and senators is $3.2 million—12 times more than the average American. Many lawmakers have been little sympathetic to federal employees in more precarious financial positions. When Politico reporter Sarah Ferris asked Rep. Scott Perry (R-Pa.) about federal employees going without pay, he answered, “Who’s living that they’re not going to make it to the next paycheck?”

Perhaps he should ask one of the 42,000 Coast Guard members, who are among those working without pay during the shutdown. Their starting annual salary is $20,000 and the average petty officer makes $42,000. Other federal workers shared their anxiety over mortgage payments, auto loans, and insulin costs on Twitter under #shutdownstories.

What Republican lawmakers, chief among them the so-called fiscal conservatives, are asking the American people to fund is one grand monument against brown people—an $8 billion photo op for Trump as rally banner for a racist base. Given that value system, it’s no surprise that the very same politicians would force ordinary working Americans to suffer for a political stunt while making no sacrifices of their own.

PRESIDENT TRUMP SHUT DOWN THE ENTIRE US GOVERNMENT, JUST BECAUSE HE COULD, NOT BECAUSE HE HAD TO

Shutting down the entire government is the equivalent of nuking the entire country with nuclear bombs.  When you cannot get your way through normal democratic methods, pull out the nuclear weapon and threaten to shut down the government, or actually do it, because government is 'evil' or bad.

Fascists love to use nuclear options such as lies, government take overs, coups, assassinations, violence, threats, intimidation, and never ending wars.

The first lie that involved the Trump wall is that Trump promised Mexico would pay for it. So how did US taxpayers end up footing the bill? Trump broke his promise either way, with yet more lies. Republicans used to be about opposing any spending that was not 'balanced' by cuts in other programs, in order to avoid raising taxes.

But now that they have just about absolute power in all branches of government, they have no problem with increasing the US debt/deficity massively via tax cuts, increasing the military budget and spending money on useless things like a wall, with no idea how to pay for these things. Debt no longer matters to them, now that they have absolute power. There is no more talk about a 'balanced budget'.

T David Carangan Trump's wall is a vanity project meant to stroke his over inflated ego and to endear him to his rabid xenophobic fan base.

In 2013, an extended shut down created by Republicans cost the US economy 24 BILLION.

His campaign promise was to have Mexico pay for the wall, and now, because he couldn't deliver, the American people will have to shoulder the expense.

The 5 billion dollars that Trump is asking for is not an amount based on anything. It's just a number he pulled out of thin air. Realistically, it's going to cost over 40+ billion to build his wall. A lot of government employees will be affected this Christmas over this dick shutdown move.

Bottom line; Trump is willing to shut down the government simply because of a temper tantrum. This alone should terrify you."

FASCISM IS NOT BASED ON LEGALITY OR ETHICAL NORMS

Oddly enough, no Republican is asking how this Trump wall will be paid for. Republicans never asked where the money was coming from for increased military spending budget that Trump demanded and got from both Pro Corporatist Republicans and Democrats.

What other programs will be cut to make up for the military budget increases, plus the additional 5 Billion that Trump wants for his wall, which will not work?

Or will Republicans increase taxes on the 99 percent in order to pay for this wall?

Trump is known for not paying his workers/contractors around his building projects. Now he is refusing to pay 'his' US government union workers, for no reason at all, right in time for the Christmas holiday season, when the bills are usually the highest.

Got the Grinch Effect?

Here is just the latest example...

But around the same time, Miller said, the Trump Organization and its construction manager, Lendlease, stopped paying AES. Three days before Christmas, AES filed a mechanic’s lien with the D.C. government alleging that it was out almost $2.1 million. “Merry Christmas and a happy new year to us,” Miller said.

The AES filing brings the total of allegedly unpaid bills on the hotel to more than $5 million. Washington-area plumbing firm Joseph J. Magnolia Inc. and Northern Virginia construction company, A&D Construction, are seeking $2.98 million and $79,700 respectively.

TRUMP SAID OBAMA SHUTTING DOWN GOVERNMENT DURING HIS TERM WAS AN INDICATION OF FAILURE AND WEAKNESS OF LEADERSHIP; TRUMP HAS SHUT DOWN US GOVERNMENT THREE TIMES IN LAST TWO YEARS

Trump once announced before he was a president, that shutting down the government indicated 'failure' of the president and a fundamental weakness, because it meant that the President could not negotiate. Now Trump is doing the very thing that he claimed was a weakness and a failure under President Obama. He made these (shutting down government is  a huge failure) critical comments as a CEO of a huge real estate empire. How does Trump expect to get this wall done, when his own Republican party has refused to fund Trump's wall a number of times, and Republicans control all branches of government currently?

Voters Who Favor Border Wall Cannot Identify Border on Map | The New Yorker
WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)—Amid the growing debate over building a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border, a new poll shows that voters who strongly favor building such a wall cannot successfully identify the border on a map.

Additionally, the more enthusiastic voters are about building a wall, the less likely they are to know where the border is actually situated, the poll finds.

Voters who could not correctly identify the U.S.-Mexico border provided no fewer than fifteen alternative locations for it. Nearly twenty per cent of respondents located it along the United States’ border with Canada.

Although the above article is sarcastic, it may have a large element of truth to it. How many people that are in favor of a wall can correctly identify where the US border is, and where the wall would go? Would they put it in the middle of the river?

How would private landowners deal with being forced to put a wall on their PRIVATE property, which is a huge percentage of where the wall would go? How many of those voters know the history of the US 'borders' and how the US borders changed radically not too long ago, thanks to genocide and slavery?

TRUMP LIED; FEDERAL UNION EMPLOYEES DO NOT SUPPORT GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN IN ANY WAY, SHAPE OR FORM

Trump lied yet again...

Trump Said Federal Workers Support Shutdown. Not True, Say Unions | Time
As hundreds of thousands of federal employees marked the Christmas holiday with their families Tuesday unsure about the state of their jobs and paychecks, President Donald Trump asserted that “many” of those impacted by the partial government shutdown support it if it leads to the controversial U.S.-Mexico border wall he’s promised to his base for years.

But union leaders who represent many of those workers say that couldn’t be further from the truth.

“There should be no confusion about whether federal employees want the government to reopen. They are eager to get back to work. They unequivocally oppose using shutdowns as a means of resolving policy disputes. This is not about a wall, this is about 800,000 real people with real families and real bills to pay,” J. David Cox Sr., national president of the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) — a union that represents about 700,000 government workers, including border patrol agents from the Department of Homeland Security — said in a statement to TIME.

WALLS DO NOT WORK, WHETHER IT IS TO KEEP PEOPLE IN OR TO KEEP PEOPLE OUT; LONG TERM, THEY ALL FAIL

Walls indicate a failure to communicate, and a failure to problem solve.

When this happens, non-essential federal personnel are furloughed until the issue is resolved. Under Trump, it happened three times – from January 20 – 22, 2018, on February 9, and again post-midnight December 21.

This time it’s over his fortress America demand along the US southern border with Mexico – wanting over $5 billion wasted on a wall, unable to stem the tide of immigrants, refugees and asylum seekers from coming to America, no matter its length or height if fully built.

Walls don’t work. A previous article explained they’ll be breached, tunneled under, or gone around by water or air to reach America.

The only partially possible way to keep out unwanted aliens is by walling-in the entire country and putting an impenetrable roof over it. Even that won’t likely work. Trump’s scheme is hugely ill-conceived – solely for political reasons, nothing else.

SHUTTING DOWN THE GOVERNMENT FOR NO REASON, ESPECIALLY WHEN AN AGREEMENT WAS ALREADY REACHED, LEADS TO LOSS OF TRUST AND INSTABILITY IN THE GLOBAL FINANCIAL MARKETS

Before Trump abruptly changed his mind, the various political leaders had reached an agreement on border security. This US government shut down was not needed. Trump lied about Democrats being at fault, as Republicans control all branches of government, and have the power to do whatever they want. He just does not have the votes among Senate Republicans to get his wall built. But he wants HIS way, no matter what, even if it is a very bad idea and will harm everyone. He denies global warming, even though that hurts everyone and everything.

Dow drops 653 points in worst Christmas Eve trading day ever
The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 653 points, falling below 22,000, on Monday and the S and P 500 entered a bear market after tanking more than 20 percent from a previous high.

A bear market occurs after a drop of 20 percent or more following a recent high, and is usually associated with long-lasting declines in the stock market, according to CNBC.
via NBC Dow drops 653 points in worst Christmas Eve trading day ever

Remember there is nothing holding up the value of any currency at this point, because there is nothing but trust holding up the value of worthless fiat money that is printed out of thin air in just about all countries globally. If that tenuous trust is ever lost, dollars will be as worthless as toilet paper.

Dow drops, SandP 500 on the cusp of bear market
Last week the Dow lost 1,655 points, or 6.8 percent. That was the Dow’s worst week of trading since October 2008 during the financial crisis. The S&P 500 also lost 7 percent for the week. The Nasdaq Composite is now 22 percent below its record reached in August and is in a bear market.

December is typically a buoyant month for stocks. Yet both the Dow and SandP 500 are down more than 14 percent this month — on track for their worst December performances since the Great Depression in 1931.

BETWEEN TRUMP TARIFF FIGHTS AND THE LOSS OF TRUST IN THE MARKET, HE HAS DIRECTLY CAUSED A LOSS OF TRILLIONS IN MARKET VALUE, WHICH IS TAKING A MASSIVE AMOUNT OF MONEY OUT OF AMERICAN'S POCKETS PLUS RETIREMENT ACCOUNTS

Government shut downs plus tariff fights that led to a huge loss of money, despite Trump's claims of the opposite happening. A total of 2.2 TRILLION has been lost due to Trump's direct actions.

CNBC; Trump’s trade fights have cost the stock market trillions and raised volatility
CNBC found fully a third of these moves, or 12 days, were linked to news about trade.

On seven of the 12 days, negative trade developments sent the Dow lower by an average of 1.7 percent and cost investors a cumulative $700 billion in market capitalization.

On the same days that the Dow dropped 1 percent on trade news, the S and P 500 fell a cumulative $2.2 trillion.
via CNBC Trump’s trade fights have cost the stock market trillions and raised volatility

If a 1 percent drop in value on the S and P is worth 2.2 TRILLION, how much money has been lost as the S and P has lost a total of 10 to 20 percent of it's value since Trump started this tariff war and then the US government shut down?

2.2 TRILLION times 10 to 20, right? Doesn't that make the losses total 20 to 40 TRILLION dollars at this point? The financial blood is already running in the streets and we have not even started on the bear market yet.

The last time a President got into a trade tariff war, the Great Depression was the result of that.

GOVERNMENT SHUT DOWN COSTS MORE THAN KEEPING IT OPEN; SO CONSERVATIVES ARE GUILTY OF NOT CONSERVING TAXPAYER DOLLARS

Via U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders Here is what Donald Trump is doing for the American people on Christmas:

Give a $3.7 billion tax break to Wells Fargo - a bank that is closing 800 branches.

Take away paychecks of some 800,000 workers by shutting the government.

Give $1.4 billion tax break to the Koch brothers.

Take away $1.40 meals from 755,000 hungry, unemployed Americans.

Give Pfizer a $26.5 billion tax cut after it increased the price of life saving drugs.

Take away healthcare from 13 million Americans by gutting Obamacare.

Give Walmart a $2.2 billion tax break after it laid off thousands of workers.

Take away $1.1 billion a year in overtime pay from 12.5 million workers.

Our job: End the 40-year war on the working class and the poor and create an economy that works for all of us, not just those on top"

What are Conservative Republicans conserving, because they are not conserving taxpayer dollars?

They are not conserving lives, as gun deaths keep on rising on their watch, as they send 'prayers', but then take no action.

They are not conserving the environment, as global warming causes larger and larger disasters, with larger and larger financial losses.

Ava says Bernie Sanders posted: Remember when Trump said working Americans would get a $4,000 raise from the Republican tax break? It was a lie. Since the Trump tax scam passed, bonuses are up a mere $0.02/hr. Massive corporations have cut thousands of jobs while spending more than $1 trillion on stock buybacks to make shareholders richer. The tax scam was a failure. Our job now is to repeal its tax breaks for billionaires and greedy corporations, and invest in the programs and resources that working people rely on.

2 Comments:

1. Stock Buy Backs which inflated the market only to see it crash again. And if this money had gone into wages or benefits the economy would actually have grown. And that's the difference between conservative Administrations and good ones that nurture real growth!

2. Right after the stock buy backs, the insiders (officers and board of directors) sold their stock at inflated prices before the crash. Insider buying/selling info is published (I believe in the Wall Street Journal)."

POLITICIANS BEING PAID OFF BY HUGE CORPORATIONS HAVE SUPPRESSED WAGE INCREASES AND POCKETED THE PROFIT THAT IS SUPPOSED TO GO TO WORKERS CREATING THAT WEALTH AND PROFIT

Politicians have caused a pay ‘collapse’ for the bottom 90 percent of workers, researchers say – The Washington Post
Political decisions by elected officials are largely responsible for a “collapse in pay for the bottom 90 percent” of the labor market since 1979, according to a new analysis of wage stagnation by the Economic Policy Institute, a left-leaning think tank.

While many economists pin much of the blame for wage stagnation on impersonal market forces, such as free trade and technological change, EPI’s Josh Bivens and Heidi Shierholz contend that specific policy decisions — including efforts to weaken unions, the decay of the minimum wage and monetary policy that prioritizes low inflation over full employment — are responsible for tilting the balance of power away from workers and toward their employers.

By their calculations, that shift in power cost the bottom 90 percent of wage earners $1.53 trillion in income in 2015 alone, or $10,800 for every American household.

JUST ONE GOVERNMENT SHUT DOWN COST THE US ECONOMY 20 BILLION IN TERMS OF ECONOMIC GROWTH, NOT COUNTING STOCK MARKET VALUE DROPS

Mark Zandi, chief economist for Moody’s Analytics, said the 2013 shutdown stunted fourth quarter GDP growth by 0.5 points, resulting in a $20 billion hit. Standard and Poor’s said the shutdown took $24 billion out of the economy and reduced yearly fourth quarter GDP growth by 0.6 percent. Macroeconomic Advisers estimated the shutdown cut 0.3 points off of fourth-quarter growth

All told, when Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., said that “it cost us more to shut the government down than to keep it open,” we rated it True.

So can we assume that the three shut downs during the Republican/Trump era in the last two years also cost about 20-25 BILLION hit to the US economy each time, resulting in a hit to the economy of 75 BILLION total during the last two years? How many times can the economy keep on getting a liver shot and then get up again?

ARE THERE ANY SUCCESSFUL EXAMPLES OF A WALL WORKING TO KEEP PEOPLE OUT ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD?

Rick Star So the president wants to build a wall at our border with Mexico, and he’s willing to shut down the government until he gets it. No one even knows how much this thing will cost or if a giant wall is even possible. Are there any examples we could point to?

The Israelis have a wall that might provide a model. Their design is a system of multiple fences with layers of chain link, pyramid stacks of razor wire, intrusion detection, anti vehicle ditches and patrol roads on either side. It's roughly 300 miles long and built at a cost of about $2.5 billion. Our wall would need to be 2000 miles long, so doing that math, we might figure on around $17 billion. Of course, our wall will be “artistically designed steel slats”. Don’t forget, most of the land our wall would traverse is not only pretty rugged but privately owned, so the federal government would have to seize it through eminent domain or pay the land owners their asking price.
VIDEO: https://www.facebook.com/IfNotNowOrg/videos/1163273100515295/

The Israelis have had a maintenance cost of roughly 1 billion a year for their 300 mile long fence. Again using that example, we’d be looking at about 7 billion in maintenance for our wall. That’s half US Customs and Border Protection's annual budget!

Trump says Mexico will pay for the wall. Mexico says they will not pay for the wall. Trump's plan is to force the Mexican government to pay through a system of new tariffs, restrictions on wire transfers and increased visa fees. This would raise only a fraction of the money required for the project. Of course, now it looks like we’re paying for the wall.

Mexicans form the largest group of illegal immigrants in the US but their population has gone down since a high 10 years ago. This means more Mexicans are leaving the US than coming in. In fact, more non Mexicans have been apprehended at our borders in recent years. Most US Customs and Border Protection people aren’t at the Mexican border, they’re at the Canadian border which is over twice as long. Should we build a wall there next? Probably not, because overall immigration to the US has been dropping in each of the last 12 years.

Are Mexican immigrants largely criminals? Among native born men without a high school diploma 11% are incarcerated. Among similarly educated Mexican immigrants 2% are incarcerated. In fact, numerous studies show that a drop in the US crime rate corresponds directly to larger immigrant populations. I’m no genius. You can find all this stuff on the internet!

Human beings have built a 2,000-mile-long wall exactly one time. It was accomplished over centuries with the forced labor of millions of Chinese peasants. So maybe building a wall is possible. But is that something we should do? What sort of message does that send to the rest of the world? After all, we didn't get to be the greatest country in the world by being afraid of immigrants.

Our nation was founded on the principle of E Pluribus Unum - out of many, one. To quote one of my favorite authors, Thomas Friedman, "Our forefathers so cherished this motto that they didn’t just put it on a hat. They put it on the dollar bill. And for a guy with so many of those, you’d think President Trump would have noticed by now"."

But Trump is not about spreading more love, goodwill, prosperity and peace to the 99 percent of US citizens he is supposed to be serving. Instead he is punishing America (the US government), getting revenge, and/or lashing out at just about everyone with either fear and/or hatred, except for his own teeny tiny racist, extreme fundamentalist evangelical base, who do not care about human rights, justice, children, the homeless, or peace.

Got the GRINCH EFFECT?

MORE REASONS WHY THE TRUMP WALL IS A VERY BAD IDEA

Paul Randolph Tuthill Listen friends... one more time. Here's why a "wall" is just a dumb idea. Not because it's mean, or because Democrats want open borders... it's just a dumb idea. Ever wonder why the bottom of Texas is such a funny shape? It because of the Rio Grande river. (See picture.) The entire Texas/Mexico border is a river.

International treaty (and basic construction,) say you can't just build a wall on a flood plain. Any wall would have to be well within the United States- by several miles in some places. So what happens to that land on the other side? Are we just giving it to Mexico? Haven't we fought wars over this?

Another problem is that 66% of the US/Mexico border privately owned. Some of that land owned by Americans, is in Mexico. What happens to that? Sorry about your luck? The remaining 33% includes tribal land. Sorry about your luck, Indian edition? Screw your sovereignty again? Bottom line, the feds don't even own most of the border."

IT IS BAD ENOUGH IF GOVERNMENT BUILDS WALLS, BUT IT IS EVEN WORSE IF PRIVATE FOR PROFIT CORPORATIONS IMPRISON IMMIGRANTS AND BUILD WALLS

When fascist corporations want to take over, they follow a certain protocol. First they make sure that the corporate mass media complains about how bad government is doing everything. Then they sell off all public resources to private for profit corporations, who raise prices and often lower the quality of what used to be cheap and efficient.

Robert Reich Stay vigilant! For-profit prisons and refugee camps are just the start. Republicans are trying to privatize even more public services, padding the profits of their wealthy donors in corporate America. Know the truth about so-called "privatization."

Refugees and asylum seekers (including 15,000 children) are being kept in prisons, at a cost of $700 per NIGHT, PER PERSON. They are not illegal, and should not be in prison. This is all a huge scam being pulled on the US taxpayers.

MOVE ON EMAILED LETTER AROUND THE TRUMP SHUT DOWN OF US GOVERNMENT

Dear MoveOn member,

Donald Trump's government shutdown has created total chaos in Washington. And let's be clear: This shutdown is 100% Trump's fault. He says that he's "proud" of the shutdown, and that it will last "for a very long time."1

Earlier this past week, the White House was signaling that Trump would accept a bipartisan funding deal. But then, he threw a temper tantrum at the 11th hour this Thursday (while senators were already on airplanes flying home from Washington, D.C.; they've since returned to deal with this Trump-created disaster).

We cannot cave in to Trump's madness. We need to rise up, right now, to demand that lawmakers on both sides put an end to this shutdown—and to make sure Trump bears 100% of the blame.

Never in the history of my 50 years in American political life has there been a time like this, when a bipartisan compromise was reached by Congress, but a president balked and unilaterally shut down the government.

And make no mistake: Trump doesn't give a fig about the safety and security of Americans. His reasoning for putting up a wall is based on a crisis that doesn't exist.

We cannot let Trump act like a crybaby who throws a fit when he doesn't get his toy, and we can't let him be the bully who holds America hostage. We don't encourage crybabies, and we don't let bullies win.

We must make sure that this shutdown ends with not one dime for Trump's wall—and make sure that the American people know exactly who is to blame for this shutdown: Donald J. Trump.

Dr Goodheart, as you read this message, nearly 54,000 Customs and Border Protection agents, 42,000 Coast Guard employees, 53,000 TSA agents, thousands of air traffic controllers and aviation and railroad safety inspectors, 17,000 correctional officers, 14,000 FBI agents, 4,000 Drug Enforcement Administration agents, and some 5,000 firefighters with the U.S. Forest Service are all working without pay.

I can tell you from experience—I ran the Department of Labor during the 1996 shutdown—that most of these public servants will report for duty, because they care about the missions they're supposed to be upholding. But going without pay will strain their family budgets to the point that some, inevitably, will not be able to carry out those missions.

We absolutely cannot let Trump shut down the government to get his way. If we put up a fight, history (and MoveOn's past success in organizing during shutdown fights) shows that we can stop him.

So far, House Speaker-to-be Nancy Pelosi and Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer have been strong in their opposition to Trump's wall, but if Democrats get cold feet, they could decide to cut a bad deal at any time.

MoveOn members have often won shutdown fights—going back to the Bush years—securing full or near-full victories in many cases, without concessions. But that doesn't happen automatically or every time. Last January, Democrats caved to Trump in a government shutdown.2 We can't let that happen this time.

When we do win, it happens because of grassroots activism. The kind of grassroots activism that MoveOn members do every day. Democrats need to know that we have their backs and that we will support them while they work to force Trump to accept a bipartisan deal with no money for his racist, wasteful border wall. Are you in? Will you chip in $3?

MoveOn is running digital ads featuring a graphic of Trump as a toddler throwing a temper tantrum. To drive the meme into the mainstream media, they even projected this image on the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) building in Washington, D.C. on Friday night:

MoveOn is driving calls to Congress and to Mar-a-Lago. And they're gearing up for protests in Washington, D.C.

If Trump thinks that he can bully us into giving him $5.7 billion for his racist, wasteful border wall, he has another thing coming. It's time to fight back.

MoveOn staff are working overtime this holiday weekend and beyond to turn up the heat. And after an exhausting and expensive election year, MoveOn needs our help to do it.

Thanks for all you do.

THE TRUMP COUP IS MOVING FASTER AND FASTER; WHERE WILL IT END?

Psychologist John Gartner on Trump’s behavior: “It’s a coup that’s not moving slowly anymore” | Salon.com
You’ve got the charismatic leader, and his followers subsume their identity into his group, which makes them feel larger and more powerful. Once you have that kind of blind belief and loyalty, the leader, as Donald Trump has said, could really shoot someone on Fifth Avenue and nothing would happen. The cognitive dissonance is such that the cult members will rationalize anything. For example, something like 50 percent of Republicans say that if Trump wanted to cancel the 2020 election, that would be fine with them.

This is what I have described as a “malignant reality.” Trump, the Republican Party, and their supporters’ sadism is a key part of it.

The sadism is very important. When I first started talking about Trump as a malignant narcissist, people could see the narcissism, the paranoia and the antisocial element. But the fourth component of malignant narcissism is sadism. You see it in everything he does, from the separating of the children at the border to how Trump tortures anyone who doesn’t give him what he wants. There’s a way in which he takes a kind of manic glee in causing harm and pain and humiliation to other people.

I have long argued that Donald Trump is version 1.0 of the American fascist. American fascist 2.0 or 3.0 is going to be far worse. We’ve crossed the Rubicon at this point, and the old version of American democracy, however flawed and [in] need of improvement, is gone.

Look at the people who are winning nomination on the Republican side. Nazis are running for office as Republicans. There are candidates who take Trump as a role model and will be even more extreme than him. There have been elections where Republican candidates and officeholders who dared to criticize Trump have been punished by Republican voters. It’s almost like a refinement process. This happens in fascist societies. We saw this with Nazi Germany.

SUMMARY; TRUMP AND REPUBLICANS ARE WAGING A WAR ON CHRISTMAS AND CHRISTIANS BY SHUTTING DOWN US GOVERNMENT AT CHRISTMAS TIME

What happened during one of the last shut downs of the US government that Republicans and President Trump were responsible for? First Republicans promised to 'fix' DACA, but then did nothing. Then they wanted to cancel DACA, plus deport all of those young DACA youth, so they forced a government shut down over that issue, which they also lost on. Bottom line, getting rid of DACA youth was all about racism, which consists of intense fear and hatred coming from a deep and dark unconscious place.

William L. Bainbridge from John Atkinson: “ If Trump hadn't thrown DACA young people under the bus 4 months ago, we wouldn't have a shutdown. If congress had passed legislation in the last 4 months to continue it, we wouldn't have a shutdown. It was obvious that Trump (and Miller and Kelly) want to kick the DACA people out of the country -- they were NEVER going to fix it. The Dems finally got a backbone, and said they just wanted this one thing that cost nothing. But Trump would rather shut the government down. (remember, he said in May that we needed a good shutdown).”

The border wall is also about intense fear and hatred, projected out onto a minority living in the US and on the southern border. Canada gets no attention as far as a wall, so that makes it perfectly obvious this wall is all about racism, not about 'security'.

The government was shut down at Christmas time by Trump, which is a deeply meaningful time of the year for most people and especially so for Christians. Trump is acting like a super Grinch, stealing up to 2.2 TRILLION dollars from the people of the US that own stock in the stockmarket.

Trump is forcing potentially millions of people to do without a paycheck during this holiday season. So much for caring about Christians. Trump is personally waging war on Christians and Christmas, by shutting down the US government during this time of year.

If Trump really cared about Christians, Christmas and American taxpayers, he could have raised the minimum wage just in time for Christmas.

He could have come up with a plan that cost 5 billion to house all of the homeless in the US (instead of building a wall), including housing 2 million homeless kids.

Since the Grinch, Republicans and Trump are all the same, and they don't care about people and have only a Grinch's heartless and racist soul, their fear and hatred is dominant, and that greed, fear and hatred rules all of their actions.

Got the GRINCH EFFECT?

WHAT ABOUT A VISIT FROM ST NICHOLAS IN DECEMBER 2018, WITH THE GRINCH, TRUMP AND REPUBLICANS IN CHARGE?

"You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch" is a Christmas song that was originally written and composed for the 1966 cartoon special How the Grinch Stole Christmas!. The lyrics were written by Theodor "Dr. Seuss" Geisel, the music was composed by Albert Hague, and the song was performed by Thurl Ravenscroft.

Mimi German A Visit From St. Nicholas --- Revised for 2018

’Twas the night before Christmas when all thru the fields
Not a creature was stirring, not even shopping cart wheels;
No stockings were hung, they were soaked on the ground,
Hoping all night, t'wer no cops to be found.
The children were freezing, sleeping stuffed in their cars,
While visions of real beds were not in the stars.
And Mama in her jones, and I in my tears,
Had just settled our brains for what was too clear.
When out on the Cut, there arose such a clatter,
Folks sprang from their tents to see what was the matter.
The cops and sweepers tore our tents into tatters;
The lights of the cop cars and sweepers of people,
Gave the lustre of sadness from the tall oak tree steeples.
When what to our tired eyes should appear,
Gawkers of neighbors who all took to cheer;
Not in my back yard was the call of their fear,
This day before Christmas, just like last year.

Got the GRINCH EFFECT?

Thanks President Trump!

For the coal in the stocking and the dirty air, and the dirty water, and the stagnant wages...

US BORDER WALL NO MATCH FOR SANTA AND A MEXICAN GIRL'S CHRISTMAS WISHES

No wall has ever worked for long, including the huge and imposing Chinese 'Great Wall'. The Trump wall has already fallen, to a girl with Christmas wishes and Santa's helpers.

U.S. border wall no match for Mexican girl’s Santa wish list | Reuters
(Reuters) – A balloon launched by a Mexican girl and carrying her Santa present list floated over the U.S. border wall and was found by an Arizona man who granted the 8-year-old’s Christmas wishes.
Randy Heiss, 60, was out walking his dog in Patagonia, Arizona, about 20 miles northeast of the border, on Dec. 16 when he found the deflated red balloon and the present list attached with a red ribbon.

Of course, the girl got her wishes fulfilled, thanks to Santa’s helpers in the US. A Christmas story worth telling during this time, when racist Grinches seem to be too common, and are even in the White House.

WHY DON'T SOME PEOPLE KNOW IT IS CHRISTMAS TIME FOR ALL?

When someone is so filled with self loathing, plus projected hate and fear, that they cannot let go of it, what is someone supposed to think about this? When someone cannot love, give, and experience joy plus gratitude even for a short time at Christmas, that is pretty sad indeed. Only a Grinch is like that.

Do they know it is Christmas time at all?

SUMMARY

What most mass media and experts plus pundits are focusing on is the wall. The wall is just an outer symptom of a inner issues, which is being ignored, denied, suppressed and yet, has a huge power. These inner issues need to be resolved in order to solve the outer problems, such as the wall, immigration, etc. To solve these issues requires going deeper inside and tearing down walls that are inside, (not outside), which is what almost no one is pointing at, because the outer issues and outer walls are so tempting to keep focusing on.

The Daily Goalcast Hi, my name is Justin, I'm a video editor at Goalcast. Today something incredible happened to me on my way to work and I want to share it with you.

Go within, in order to solve outer problems like walls. Outer wall problems will not be solved by focusing on outer third dimensional things. Humans are five dimensional beings, and need to solve problems in five dimensions, not just three. But that requires going inside. That requires talking with other people, being kind to them, expressing love and asking what is of value and meaning to them. Humans are all interconnected and ONE. The illusion is that we are all separate, and that walls can keep us apart.
