Banned From The Bible - Stories/Myths That Were Deleted Or 'Borrowed' From Biblical History; The Lost Books of the Bible and the Forgotten Books of Eden - From Under The Cover Of Censorship, Banishment And Darkness, Gnostics, Essene Mystics And Light Humans Revealed

The masses believe in a shallow, surface layer of reality. Once a person chooses to dive more deeply into religion and spirituality, then things can change pretty quickly.

But to do that, a person has to have a thirst or curiosity for truth, an open mind, an open heart, and a brave spirit, because it means going off the freeway of life, into the path less traveled.

If you want to stay on the freeway of life, with the masses, this article is not for you.

An introduction to the stories and books that were deleted from the Bible and biblical history....

Banned From The Bible - The Stories That Were Deleted From Biblical History BANNED FROM THE BIBLE reveals some of these alternative tales and examines why they were "too hot for Christianity."

The Bible supports slavery in the Old Testament, with numerous passages and references to it. This focus was used and amplified by Christians who in the early days of the Republic, wanted compliant and obedient slaves. Those slaves were given copies of a 'Slave Bible', which promoted slavery as entirely normal, ordinary and expected, in God's Kingdom.

‘Slave Bible’ removed passages to instill obedience and uphold slavery
The “Slave Bible” on display at Washington’s Museum of the Bible has a mere 232 chapters, showing how whole chapters were removed to instill obedience, prevent rebellions and promote the horror of slavery.

There is no mention of where Jesus went or who he learned from, nor what churches or countries he traveled to in any of the many books in the Bible between birth and the time he started his ministry. Why is that? Jesus traveled a lot, and he was a truth seeker. He explored many religions, many beliefs and cultures, including the Essenes. He learned the Essene metaphysical and gnostic teachings, which is where he got all of the things that he taught in the New Testament. The match up between what the Essenes teach and what Jesus taught is pretty amazing, but the Essenes are just about totally missing from the Bible, and their books are not included. Why is that?

The things Jesus taught did not come directly from God, by magic. The things Jesus taught were given to him by the gnostic Essenes, but that all had to be hidden and kept secret, because it would given people the wrong idea, that they could be like him and do as he did.

Because once you know and experience the inner light, and inner truths, and have a connection to the Divine within, then the outer church top down 1 percent led hierarchy, buildings, icons, traditions, rites, symbols and everything physical becomes totally useless and worthless.

Jesus taught mostly outdoors in Nature as part of his ministry. He was very rarely in a church for a REASON. The Essenes did not like buildings for worship and had a very deep relationship with Nature, as Jesus did. They taught universal spiritual laws, which Jesus also taught.

Go deeper into several the books banned from the Bible, because they focus on the inner Essene teachings that Heaven within everyone, rather than the outer worship of buildings, icons, deities, symbols, authorities, and relics.. The Catholic Church from it's very beginning opposed the Essene teachings of the inner light, and connecting to God directly. The evidence of this is there persecution and genocide of the Cathars, who as Christians also taught things that Jesus taught, but which the Catholic Church opposed violently.

The banned books and knowledge of gnostic mystical living, metaphysics and living in harmony with Nature, instead of dominating and fighting a war against Nature were all banned and censored out of the Bible, despite Jesus teaching this as part of what he learned from the Essenes and/or groups like the Cathars.

For some strange reason, the various Christian holidays also manage to align and fit perfectly with very ancient 'Pagan' holidays that go back hundreds of thousands of years historically, which are oriented to the solar calendar. Is that just a coincidence, or was this 'manufactured'?

Isn't it odd that Christ just happened to be born near or on Christmas Day, which also happens to be the shortest day of the year, according to the solar calendar. That shortest and darkest day, where the amount of sun 'light' starts increasing after that, is celebrated all around the world, by many different religions and belief systems. These Christmas winter solstice celebrations started hundreds of thousands of years before Christians came along. Even the ancient Roman civilization celebrated this day.

Wikipedia; "December 25 was the date of the winter solstice on the Roman calendar.[27][66] Jesus chose to be born on the shortest day of the year for symbolic reasons, according to an early Christmas sermon by Augustine: "Hence it is that He was born on the day which is the shortest in our earthly reckoning and from which subsequent days begin to increase in length. He, therefore, who bent low and lifted us up chose the shortest day, yet the one whence light begins to increase."[67]

Linking Jesus to the Sun was supported by various Biblical passages. Jesus was considered to be the "Sun of righteousness" prophesied by Malachi: "Unto you shall the sun of righteousness arise, and healing is in his wings."[47]

Such solar symbolism could support more than one date of birth. An anonymous work known as De Pascha Computus (243) linked the idea that creation began at the spring equinox, on March 25, with the conception or birth (the word nascor can mean either) of Jesus on March 28, the day of the creation of the sun in the Genesis account. One translation reads: "O the splendid and divine providence of the Lord, that on that day, the very day, on which the sun was made, March 28, a Wednesday, Christ should be born.[10][68]

In the 17th century, Isaac Newton argued that the date of Christmas was selected to correspond with the solstice.[69]

According to Steven Hijmans of the University of Alberta, "It is cosmic symbolism ... which inspired the Church leadership in Rome to elect the southern solstice, December 25, as the birthday of Christ, and the northern solstice as that of John the Baptist, supplemented by the equinoxes as their respective dates of conception."[70]

When the relatively new Christian religion came into being, Christ wrote nothing down, on purpose, because his teachings were more about the experience of Heaven WITHIN, not worshipping buildings or writings in a literal way. The written Bible stories that came tens to hundreds of years after Christ 'borrowed' most if not all of their holiday traditions and stories such as Christmas, Easter, and others as well, in order to make Christianity more popular with the 'locals'. The locals always wanted to show that they were open and welcoming to a new and different religion, but also wanted to hang on to their older more ancient myths, stories and traditions, such as Santa, and Christmas trees, etc. Christianity just combined all of these with Jesus Christ and voila, magic happened.

Despite using calendars that are apart by 13 days, Easter 2014 fell on the same date. According to the Western (Gregorian) calendar, the first Paschal Full Moon after the Spring Equinox (March 20) fell on Monday, April 14, 2014. The following Sunday, April 20, was, therefore, Easter Day.

According to the Bible, Jesus Christ's death and resurrection occurred at the time of the Jewish Passover, which was celebrated on the first Full Moon following the vernal equinox. This soon led to Christians celebrating Easter on different dates. At the end of the 2nd century, some churches celebrated Easter on the day of the Passover, while others celebrated it on the following Sunday. In 325 CE, the Council of Nicaea established that Easter would be held on the first Sunday after the first Full Moon occurring on or after the vernal equinox. (*) From that point forward, the Easter date depended on the ecclesiastical approximation of March 21 for the vernal equinox.

Many other Christian holidays are tied to this solar 'pagan' holiday, which was celebrated for tens to hundreds of thousands of years before Christianity came into being. Click on link above to see full list.

All around the world, no matter where Christianity went, this process was always followed. Whatever the local celebrations were, Christian celebrations/holidays were layered on top, such as the Day of the Dead in Mexico, which became a Christian holiday linked to Mother Mary.

Making up new ceremonies and holidays for a new religion is really hard to do, and it is much easier to just 'adopt' or borrow some other religion's special days, and then call them your own.

Christians call all other religions or belief systems 'pagan'. But that term is actually racist and bigoted, because there is no such specific religion. The term 'pagan' really refers to all other religions and 'unbelievers' that are all going to Hell forever, according to Christians. According to ancient Bible stories, all 'heathen' religions including other Christians belief systems that the Catholic Church did not agree with had to be exterminated via genocide and/or made into slaves, to be ruled with an iron Theocratic fist.

None of these other Christian faiths or other religions called themselves Pagan or Heathen, and these terms are actually racist plus bigoted.

How many stories and myths may have been 'borrowed' from other religions as well, just because well, when a story is REALLY GOOD, why bother to come up with something new? Just borrow what works and change the names, and then put it in a holy book, which is put together by a Roman Ruler, who had a goal of being a dictator and ruling both political world and all of the world's religions on a global basis.

What stories were borrowed from other more ancient religions and also appeared in the Bible?

Why is freedom and bottoms up democracy such a threat to many organized religions, including Christianity? Why won't religions allow followers the freedom to explore, read any and all books and to know the full and complete history of humanity, including reading other religion's holy books and reading banned books from the Bible? Why were book burnings, censorship and killing people who disagreed with the Emperor or Pope so popular during the Roman Empire, Middle Ages and even beyond that into the early days of the US colonies; (witch burnings).

Catholic Bishop reveals a secret; Hell does not exist. It was created along with fear and guilt to control people inside of a religious hierarchy.

The history of Christianity includes a political/religious council. A Roman Emperor Constantine decided he wanted a state religion, which effectively made Rome a Theocracy (Religious Dictatorship). Any Christian who did not agree with the outcome and the one proper state authorized Christian religion via the Catholic Church and their interpretation/dogma, was declared a heretic, and their books were burned, and/or they were hunted down and killed. (Cathars,)

Wikipedia; "The synod of Nicaea, Constantine and the condemnation and burning of Arian books, illustration from a northern Italian compendium of canon law, ca. 825

The Emperor carried out his earlier statement: everybody who refused to endorse the Creed would be exiled

Arius, Theonas, and Secundus refused to adhere to the creed, and were thus exiled to Illyria, in addition to being excommunicated. The works of Arius were ordered to be confiscated and consigned to the flames,[8] while his supporters considered as "enemies of Christianity." [54] Nevertheless, the controversy continued in various parts of the empire.[55]

By approving Christianity as the 'official religion', all other religions or belief systems, such as the Jews, Essene Gnostics, Cathars, and 'Pagans', were banned, censored and/or made illegal, and their books were burned.

Part of the process of making Christianity official and 'approved' by the state including banning or censoring any books that did not give the state approved religion and the supreme (Roman Emperor) absolute and total control over everyone and everything, which included what was included in the many books that make up the Bible, and the many books that were not included in it, which ended up being burned/censored/banned.

In the Middle Ages, a state religion was approved and used by Catholics, who banned any other religion, belief system or interpretation other than the approved one controlled by the 1 percent Catholic Church hierarchy at the top, and this is why it was called the 'Dark Ages'.

Before Martin Luther, the Bible was  ONLY written in Latin and only the Emperor, the Pope, and his officially approved God sanctioned priests could talk with God, because only the priests and Pope could read, write and speak Latin, like God did.

In a Theocracy, the Pope and/or Emperor was and still is considered to be God, and whatever he said was like God saying it, because no one could dispute or disagree with any edict, dogma or interpretation of the scripture that no one could read or understand except the priests and the Pope.

There was only ONE literal way to read/interpret the Bible and that was handled by the priests. No one else had a say in this matter, nor did anyone else have access to a Bible.

But that all changed when the Bible was translated into English by Martin Luther, and everyone could read the Bible, and then directly access God themselves without a priest. The Catholic Church hated and still hates and resists this direct connection between Christians and God. The Catholic hierarchy did everything they could to prevent this direct connection by banning Essene books, Cathar books and others like them from the Bible, as well as waging war directly on those who believed that a person could have a personal and direct inner connection to God, like the genocide of the Cathars.

Once people started reading the Bible themselves, then a lot more freedom opened up, including the freedom to interpret the various stories and books that make up the Bible. What is the correct interpretation, when the priest or Pope is no longer in ABSOLUTE control and no longer as ABSOLUTE power? This freedom meant that Christians started interpreting the Bible in many ways, not just the one authorized by the 1 percent at the top, for their own benefit and control.

The 9 Major Ways To Interpret Any Holy Book Such As The Bible, Vedas, Koran; Hermeneutics, Nonsensical, Allegory, Myth, Historical, Literal, Archetypes, Transfigurative, Or Metaphysical; Which Religion And Which Interpretation Is The 'Right' One For You?

In those days before Martin Luther, the priest was the absolute ruler of cities, towns and villages. The priest was in charge of all property, marriage, births, jobs, money, and beliefs. If anyone disagreed with the priest, they were either declared a heretic and burned at the stake, stoned to death or tortured. The priest interpreted God's writings, which were only allowed to be interpreted ONE WAY, literally. A lucky few were just excommunicated and banished from the Empire.

The absolute control was so complete, that people were forced to buy their relatives out of Hell, because only the Pope could say whether someone ended up in Heaven or Hell.

Christians had no contact with God, so when the Pope as GOD, said that Christians had to buy their way out of Hell via indulgences, they complied. Thus all of the wealth of the people was transferred to the Catholic Church, including lands, gold, jewels, art work, money, etc.. because getting oneself or other loved ones out of Hell is very, very expensive.

Effectively, The Roman Empire, Middle Ages, and Dark Ages were a time of religious and political dictatorship via Theocracy, supported by a Bible that permitted genocides, slavery and Patriarchal white supremacy/racism/sexism, with very little freedom or democracy, or none at all.

Galileo was punished for presenting his findings that the Earth was not flat and did not stand stationary in space, because all of the officially approved scientists, religious scholars and experts/leaders, knew for an absolute fact that the Earth was flat and hung stationary in space.

Wikipedia; "In the whole world prior to Galileo's conflict with the Church, the majority of educated people subscribed either to the Aristotelian geocentric view that the earth was the center of the universe and that all heavenly bodies revolved around the Earth,[68] or the Tychonic system that blended geocentrism with heliocentrism.[69]

Opposition to heliocentrism and Galileo's writings combined scientific and religious objections. Scientific opposition came from Tycho Brahe and others and arose from the fact that, if heliocentrism were true, an annual stellar parallax should be observed, though none was. Copernicus and Aristarchus had correctly postulated that parallax was negligible because the stars were so distant. However, Tycho had countered that, since stars appeared to have measurable angular size, if the stars were that distant and their apparent size was due to their physical size, they would be far larger than the Sun. (In fact, it is not possible to observe the physical size of distant stars without modern telescopes). In Tycho's system the stars were a little more distant than Saturn, and the Sun and stars were comparable in size.[70]

Religious opposition to heliocentrism arose from Biblical references such as Psalm 93:1, 96:10, and 1 Chronicles 16:30 which include text stating that "the world is firmly established, it cannot be moved". In the same manner, Psalm 104:5 says, "the Lord set the earth on its foundations; it can never be moved". Further, Ecclesiastes 1:5 states that "the sun rises and sets and returns to its place".[71]

To this day, there are still major sects within the extreme far right wing Christian fundamentalist evangelical community that believe the Bible, and that the Earth is flat, plus only 2,000 years old.

Martin Luther was punished for translating the Bible from Latin into English. This time was an age of spiritual babies, who needed the literalism dogma and absolute control.

Wikipedia; "Martin Luther, O.S.A. (/ˈluːθər/;[1] German: [ˈmaɐ̯tiːn ˈlʊtɐ]; 10 November 1483[2] – 18 February 1546) was a German professor of theology, composer, priest, monk,[3] and a seminal figure in the Protestant Reformation.

Luther was ordained to the priesthood in 1507. He came to reject several teachings and practices of the Roman Catholic Church; in particular, he disputed the view on indulgences. Luther proposed an academic discussion of the practice and efficacy of indulgences in his Ninety-five Theses of 1517. His refusal to renounce all of his writings at the demand of Pope Leo X in 1520 and the Holy Roman Emperor Charles V at the Diet of Worms in 1521 resulted in his excommunication by the pope and condemnation as an outlaw by the Holy Roman Emperor.

Luther taught that salvation and, consequently, eternal life are not earned by good deeds but are received only as the free gift of God's grace through the believer's faith in Jesus Christ as redeemer from sin. His theology challenged the authority and office of the Pope by teaching that the Bible is the only source of divinely revealed knowledge,[4] and opposed sacerdotalism by considering all baptized Christians to be a holy priesthood.[5] Those who identify with these, and all of Luther's wider teachings, are called Lutherans, though Luther insisted on Christian or Evangelical (German: evangelisch) as the only acceptable names for individuals who professed Christ....

Luther had published his German translation of the New Testament in 1522, and he and his collaborators completed the translation of the Old Testament in 1534, when the whole Bible was published. He continued to work on refining the translation until the end of his life.[135] Others had previously translated the Bible into German, but Luther tailored his translation to his own doctrine.[136] Two of the earlier translations were the Mentelin Bible (1456)[137] and the Koberger Bible (1484).[138] There were as many as fourteen in High German, four in Low German, four in Netherlands language, and various in other languages before the Bible of Luther.[139] When he was criticised for inserting the word "alone" after "faith" in Romans 3:28,[140] he replied in part: "[T]he text itself and the meaning of St. Paul urgently require and demand it. For in that very passage he is dealing with the main point of Christian doctrine, namely, that we are justified by faith in Christ without any works of the Law. ... But when works are so completely cut away—and that must mean that faith alone justifies—whoever would speak plainly and clearly about this cutting away of works will have to say, 'Faith alone justifies us, and not works'."[141]

Luther did not include First Epistle of John 5:7-8,[142] the Johannine Comma in his translation, rejecting it as a forgery. It was inserted into the text by other hands after Luther’s death.[143][144]

A spiritual baby religion wants to impose it's authority, literalism dogma and very unpopular edicts such as (no birth control, no sex education, no abortion, punishment, beatings, forced tithing, indulgences, racism, militarism, Capitalism, war against unbelievers, death to 'sinners', and much more) from on high against an entire population via Theocracy and teaching these Dominionist beliefs in every school/college/university.

Theocracy is full of punishments, torture, slavery, and the death penalty for a wide variety of moral and ethical or other types of 'sins'.

The Bible was created by men as a collection of books designed with the goal of giving the church and a supreme leader like the Roman Emperor, absolute power and control over the people who all had to believe the 'proper' way. Who was left out in this process of establishing a 'state religion'? All other Christian religions, belief systems, other religions and different philosophies were censored, banned or declared illegal, with punishments. So much for freedom of religion and democracy.

When the Bible was created, it was created to CENSOR and BAN freedom of religion, freedom of worship and democracy, not the opposite.

One of the things that went out the window with the 'official state religion' was the concept of reincarnation, along with all metaphysical belief systems, gnosticism, mystical philosophies and anything related to talking about reincarnation. Why? Because a people that cannot be held back as spiritual babies, cannot be controlled.

Christians for Reincarnation I would like to share an Internet site called: "The Third Testament" at http://144000.net/. Here is a paragraph from that site: "It is a well known fact that almost all the ancient cultures and peoples of the world embraced as a dear belief the reality of reincarnation and a vast majority in this world still does. Buddhists, Hindus, Druids, Celts, Britons, Gallics, Platonists, Pythagoreans, many early Christians - including the apostles of Jesus Christ - are only some of the people that hold to this doctrine. Include the Inca and Mayan civilizations, the old Egyptians, [some Romans]... I have believed in God and Jesus since I was a little girl, but my life was not complete and did not make rational sense until I found out about reincarnation. The more research I do, the more I realize that the early Christians believed in reincarnation, but it was outlawed by the Church in the sixth century to keep the believers under control. If I can believe that God gave me this lifetime, why not believe that he gave me many others?.."

By keeping everyone as a spiritual baby, the spiritual parents inside of a state religion with a supreme authority and absolute control, could exert an absolute dictatorship, and never allow any of the followers to grow up into spiritual adults, as Christ wanted and taught via the Essenes.

A spiritual baby believes that there is only ONE literal and selfish way of looking at the world via literalism. Literalism is just one way of interpreting both the world and scripture. For a spiritual baby, only one small group is 'right' and everyone else is 'wrong'. All other religions and belief systems are 'evil' and going to be punished forever and ever by a punishing God.

Back in the days of a Roman Empire with a dictatorship state approved religion, all other books/beliefs were banned or made illegal, especially those that mentioned the fact that many religions had special leaders born of virgins, angel visits, accurate prophecy, rebirth and miracles.

Not much has changed since the Middle Ages, when Christians in the name of God committed genocide to wipe out all other unbelievers.

GOP Lawmaker Who Promotes ‘Biblical Law’ Caught Planning Violent Attacks | Michael Stone
Late last year Rep. Shea released a four-page Christian manifesto titled “Biblical Basis for War.” The document calls for “Biblical law,” and suggests that those men who support gay marriage and abortion rights should be executed.

Bottom line: Washington state Rep. Matt Shea, who recently published a Christian manifesto calling for the execution of all males who refuse to follow “Biblical law,” has been caught planning violent attacks against progressive political opponents.

To enforce the top down 1 percent control inside of the Roman Empire, with an effective dictator at the top, many 'sins' were punishable by death via burning or stoning. The Emperor and Pope used this Christian state religion to quell any opposition, critics, or dissent, by using the state religion and 'punishments' for sins that called for the death penalty. Even women that did not believe in Christianity were tortured and burned, just for refusing to be Christian.

For a spiritual baby, there is only ONE way of drinking spiritual milk, via a literal and supreme authority approved way of interpreting both the approved holy scripture. For a spiritual baby, there is only ONE way of interpreting the words written by God.

In the world of a spiritual adult, there are many dimensions, many interpretations and infinite consciousness, where everyone may be at least partially right. For a spiritual aware, metaphysically oriented adult with inner awareness and expanded consciousness, there is very little, or no black/white literalism or absolutism, inside of the Oneness. For a spiritual adult, there are many interpretations to the Bible, not just one, and each interpretation has meaning plus value.

The Lost Books of the Bible and the Forgotten Books of Eden
Wikipedia; "Rutherford Hayes Platt, in the preface to his 1963 reprint of The Lost Books of the Bible and the Forgotten Books of Eden states:"First issued in 1926, this is the most popular collection of apocryphal and pseudepigraphal literature ever published."

The translations were first published, under this title, by an unknown editor in The Lost Books of the Bible Cleveland 1926, but the translations had previously been published many times.

The book is, essentially, a combined reprint of earlier works. The first half, Lost Books of the Bible, is an unimproved reprint of a book published by William Hone in 1820, titled The Apocryphal New Testament, itself a reprint of a translation of the Apostolic Fathers done in 1693 by William Wake, who later became the Archbishop of Canterbury, and a smattering of medieval embellishments on the New Testament, from a book by Jeremiah Jones (1693-1724), posthumously published in 1736. In the three centuries since these were originally published, a great deal more is known about the Apostolic Fathers (including a good deal of the original text that was not available in 1693) and New Testament apocrypha.

The second half of the book, The Forgotten Books of Eden, includes a translation originally published in 1882 of the "First and Second Books of Adam and Eve", translated first from ancient Ethiopic to German by Ernest Trumpp and then into English by Solomon Caesar Malan, and a number of items of Old Testament pseudepigrapha, such as reprinted in the second volume of R.H. Charles's Apocrypha and Pseudepigrapha of the Old Testament (Oxford, 1913).

More modern translations of these works include J. H. Charlesworth, ed. Old Testament Pseudepigrapha; W. Schneemelcher, ed. New Testament Apocrypha; and M. R. James, The Apocryphal New Testament.

Why Mainstream Historians Suppressed the Essenes, Writers of the Dead Sea Scrolls
VIDEO:  https://youtu.be/xpdw26tDcsw 2 hours

In this presentation you will learn what scholars have been hiding about the Essenes, the tribe of mystics from where Jesus and Mary Magdalene emerged and of course the writers of the dea sea scrolls. Since their discovery in 1947, the core of the Essene texts have been sealed away. Why? After spending years scaling the ivory towers of academia to recover this lost knowledge, William is now ready to reveal his awe-inspiring findings.

Known as the Holy Ones, the books of the Essenes reveal they lived with angels who came to earth to empower humans to transform into celestial beings and to open portals to the celestial realms. In shocking detail they describe celestial cities alien beings, stargates, hidden agendas, and new, spiritually advanced humans.

You will come away with easy-to-do actions and teachings that can dramatically shift your consciousness and beliefs about what is possible for you and ultimately will connect you with a source of deep compassion and wisdom within you. Included is an Essene-based journey/meditation for enhancing the light body you won’t want to miss!"

Wikipedia; "The first reference to the sect is by the Roman writer Pliny the Elder (died c. 79 CE) in his Natural History.[6] Pliny relates in a few lines that the Essenes possess no money, had existed for thousands of generations, and that their priestly class (“contemplatives”) do not marry. Unlike Philo, who did not mention any particular geographical location of the Essenes other than the whole land of Israel, Pliny places them somewhere above Ein Gedi, next to the Dead Sea.

Josephus later gave a detailed account of the Essenes in The Jewish War (c. 75 CE), with a shorter description in Antiquities of the Jews (c. 94 CE) and The Life of Flavius Josephus (c. 97 CE). Claiming firsthand knowledge, he lists the Essenoi as one of the three sects of Jewish philosophy[7] alongside the Pharisees and the Sadducees. He relates the same information concerning piety, celibacy, the absence of personal property and of money, the belief in communality, and commitment to a strict observance of Sabbath. He further adds that the Essenes ritually immersed in water every morning, ate together after prayer, devoted themselves to charity and benevolence, forbade the expression of anger, studied the books of the elders, preserved secrets, and were very mindful of the names of the angels kept in their sacred writings.

Pliny, also a geographer, located them in the desert near the northwestern shore of the Dead Sea, where the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered.[8]

Josephus uses the name Essenes in his two main accounts[9][10] but some manuscripts read here Essaion (“holding the Essenes in honour”;[11] “a certain Essene named Manaemus”;[12] “to hold all Essenes in honor”;[13] “the Essenes”).[14][15][16]

In several places, however, Josephus has Essaios, which is usually assumed to mean Essene (“Judas of the Essaios race”;[17] “Simon of the Essaios race”;[18] “John the Essaios”;[19] “those who are called by us Essaioi”;[20] “Simon a man of the Essaios race”).[21]Josephus identified the Essenes as one of the three major Jewish sects of that period.[22]

Philo's usage is Essaioi, although he admits this Greek form of the original name, that according to his etymology signifies “holiness”, to be inexact.[23] Pliny's Latin text has Esseni.[6][24]

Gabriele Boccaccini implies that a convincing etymology for the name Essene has not been found, but that the term applies to a larger group within Palestine that also included the Qumran community.[25]

It was proposed before the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered that the name came into several Greek spellings from a Hebrew self-designation later found in some Dead Sea Scrolls, 'osey hatorah, “observers of torah”.[26] Although dozens of etymology suggestions have been published, this is the only etymology published before 1947 that was confirmed by Qumran text self-designation references, and it is gaining acceptance among scholars.[27]

It is recognized as the etymology of the form Ossaioi (and note that Philo also offered an O spelling) and Essaioi and Esseni spelling variations have been discussed by VanderKam, Goranson, and others. In medieval Hebrew (e.g. Sefer Yosippon) Hassidim (“the pious ones”) replaces “Essenes”. While this Hebrew name is not the etymology of Essaioi/Esseni, the Aramaic equivalent Hesi'im known from Eastern Aramaic texts has been suggested.[28] Others suggest that Essene is a transliteration of the Hebrew word chitzonim (chitzon=outside), which the Mishna (e.g. Megila 4:8) uses to describe various sectarian groups. Another theory is that the name was borrowed from a cult of devotees to Artemis in Asia Minor, whose demeanor and dress somewhat resembled those of the group in Judaea.[29]

Flavius Josephus in Chapter 8 of “The Jewish War” states:

2.(119)For there are three philosophical sects among the Jews. The followers of the first of which are the Pharisees; of the second, the Sadducees; and the third sect, which pretends to a severer discipline, are called Essenes. These last are Jews by birth, and seem to have a greater affection for each other than other sects have."[30]

Remains of part of the main building at Qumran.

According to Josephus, the Essenes had settled “not in one city” but “in large numbers in every town”.[31] Philo speaks of "more than four thousand" Essaioi living in “Palestine and Syria”,[32] more precisely, “in many cities of Judaea and in many villages and grouped in great societies of many members”.[33]

Pliny locates them “on the west side of the Dead Sea, away from the coast... [above] the town of Engeda”.[24]

Some modern scholars and archaeologists have argued that Essenes inhabited the settlement at Qumran, a plateau in the Judean Desert along the Dead Sea, citing Pliny the Elder in support, and giving credence that the Dead Sea Scrolls are the product of the Essenes. This theory, though not yet conclusively proven, has come to dominate the scholarly discussion and public perception of the Essenes.[34] Part of the Dead Sea Scrolls that have been discovered is a small fragment known as the “Son of God text” or 4Q246.

Rules, customs, theology, and beliefs

The accounts by Josephus and Philo show that the Essenes led a strictly communal life—often compared to later Christian monasticism.[35] Many of the Essene groups appear to have been celibate, but Josephus speaks also of another “order of Essenes” that observed the practice of being engaged for three years and then becoming married.[36]

According to Josephus, they had customs and observances such as collective ownership,[37][38] electing a leader to attend to the interests of the group, and obedience to the orders from their leader.[39] Also, they were forbidden from swearing oaths[40] and from sacrificing animals.[41] They controlled their tempers and served as channels of peace,[40] carrying weapons only for protection against robbers.[42] The Essenes chose not to possess slaves but served each other[43] and, as a result of communal ownership, did not engage in trading.[44] Josephus and Philo provide lengthy accounts of their communal meetings, meals and religious celebrations.

After a three-year probationary period,[45] newly joining members would take an oath that included the commitment to practice piety towards God (το θειον) and righteousness towards humanity, to maintain a pure lifestyle, to abstain from criminal and immoral activities, to transmit their rules uncorrupted and to preserve the books of the Essenes and the names of the angels.[46]

Their theology included belief in the immortality of the soul and that they would receive their souls back after death.[15][47] Part of their activities included purification by water rituals, which was supported by rainwater catchment and storage. According to the Community Rules, repentance was a prerequisite to baptism: “They shall not enter the water... for they will not be cleansed unless they have turned from their evil.” [48]

Ritual purification was a common practice among the peoples of Judea during this period and was thus not specific to the Essenes. (Ritual baths are found near many Synagogues of the period.[49]) Purity and cleanliness was considered so important to the Essenes that they would refrain from defecation on the Sabbath.[50]

According to Joseph Lightfoot the Church Father Epiphanius (writing in the 4th century CE) seems to make a distinction between two main groups within the Essenes:[28] “Of those that came before his [Elxai, an Ossaean prophet] time and during it, the Ossaeans and the Nazarean.”[51] Epiphanius describes each group as following:

The Nazarean—they were Jews by nationality—originally from Gileaditis, Bashanitis and the Transjordan... They acknowledged Moses and believed that he had received laws—not this law, however, but some other. And so, they were Jews who kept all the Jewish observances, but they would not offer sacrifice or eat meat. They considered it unlawful to eat meat or make sacrifices with it. They claim that these Books are fictions, and that none of these customs were instituted by the fathers. This was the difference between the Nazarean and the others...[52]

After this Nazarean sect in turn comes another closely connected with them, called the Ossaeans. These are Jews like the former... originally came from Nabataea, Ituraea, Moabitis, and Arielis, the lands beyond the basin of what sacred scripture called the Salt Sea... Though it is different from the other six of these seven sects, it causes schism only by forbidding the books of Moses like the Nazarean.[51]

If it is correct to identify the community at Qumran with the Essenes (and claim that the community at Qumran are the authors of the Dead Sea Scrolls), then according to the Dead Sea Scrolls the Essenes' community school was called “Yahad” (meaning “community”) in order to differentiate themselves from the rest of the Jews who are repeatedly labeled “The Breakers of the Covenant”.

Scholarly discussion

Josephus and Philo discuss the Essenes in detail. Most scholars believe that the community at Qumran that allegedly produced the Dead Sea Scrolls was an offshoot of the Essenes. However, this theory has been disputed by some; for example, Norman Golb argues that the primary research on the Qumran documents and ruins (by Father Roland de Vaux, from the École Biblique et Archéologique de Jérusalem) lacked scientific method, and drew wrong conclusions that comfortably entered the academic canon.

For Golb, the number of documents is too extensive and includes many different writing styles and calligraphies; the ruins seem to have been a fortress, used as a military base for a very long period of time—including the 1st century—so they therefore could not have been inhabited by the Essenes; and the large graveyard excavated in 1870, just 50 metres (160 ft) east of the Qumran ruins, was made of over 1200 tombs that included many women and children; Pliny clearly wrote that the Essenes who lived near the Dead Sea "had not one woman, had renounced all pleasure... and no one was born in their race".

Golb's book presents observations about de Vaux's premature conclusions and their uncontroverted acceptance by the general academic community. He states that the documents probably stemmed from various libraries in Jerusalem, kept safe in the desert from the Roman invasions.[53] Other scholars refute these arguments—particularly since Josephus describes some Essenes as allowing marriage.[54]

Another issue is the relationship between the Essaioi and Philo's Therapeutae and Therapeutrides. He regarded the Therapeutae as a contemplative branch of the Essaioi who, he said, pursued an active life.[55]

One theory on the formation of the Essenes suggests that the movement was founded by a Jewish high priest, dubbed by the Essenes the Teacher of Righteousness, whose office had been usurped by Jonathan (of priestly but not of Zadokite lineage), labeled the “man of lies” or “false priest”.[4][5] Others follow this line and a few argue that the Teacher of Righteousness was not only the leader of the Essenes at Qumran, but was also identical to the original Messianic figure about 150 years before the time of the Gospels.[34] Fred Gladstone Bratton notes that

The Teacher of Righteousness of the Scrolls would seem to be a prototype of Jesus, for both spoke of the New Covenant; they preached a similar gospel; each was regarded as a Savior or Redeemer; and each was condemned and put to death by reactionary factions... We do not know whether Jesus was an Essene, but some scholars feel that he was at least influenced by them.[56]

Lawrence Schiffman has argued that the Qumran community may be called Sadducean, and not Essene, since their legal positions retain a link with Sadducean tradition.[57]

Connections to Christianity

Simon J. Joseph argues in his 2018 book Jesus, the Essenes, and Christian Origins New Light on Ancient Texts and Communities that "the influence of Essenes can still be detected, albeit in fragmentary form, in the pages of the New Testament, a missing link in the study of early Christian origins."[58]

"The earliest origins of Gnosticism are obscure and still disputed. The proto-orthodox Christian groups called Gnostics a heresy of Christianity,[note 13][13] but according to the modern scholars the theology's origin is closely related to Jewish sectarian milieus and early Christian sects.[14][15][note 14][16] Scholars debate Gnosticism's origins as having roots in Neoplatonism and Buddhism, due to similarities in beliefs, but ultimately, its origins are currently unknown. As Christianity developed and became more popular, so did Gnosticism, with both proto-orthodox Christian and Gnostic Christian groups often existing in the same places. The Gnostic belief was widespread within Christianity until the proto-orthodox Christian communities expelled the group in the second and third centuries (C.E.). Gnosticism became the first group to be declared heresy.

A spiritual baby or child sees nothing wrong with taking things from others by force, threats, intimidation, or war. A child or teen is entirely focused on selfish pursuit of pleasure, money, riches and accumulating possessions, territories, power, fame, and glory, even naming God as the reason for doing so, with racism behind it all.

In a spiritual adult organization, everyone is a 'minister', with equal power, influence and abilities. There is little or no dogma, because every adult is a minister with a direct relationship plus communication with their higher power, and/or inner guidance system. A spiritual adult is led from within, with an inner ethical, moral and spiritual 'compass', plus an inner master guidance system, so they need few or no outer dogma, rules or hierarchy. For an example of this type of spiritual adult organization, attend an unprogrammed Quaker meeting.

Jesus Christ taught that Heaven was WITHIN, not in any physical temple or holy book. The Kingdom of God is WITHIN, and always available to any truth seeker. Christ Consciousness is available to anyone who seeks it and wants to experience it. Christ is WITHIN, not without in a temple or church. Christ is an inner consciousness which can be experienced, not a mental belief system that one must blindly follow and believe/profess in order to enter Heaven.

A spiritual adult needs no 'leader', as that person is leading by example, not by outer rigid dogmatic belief systems, which are impossible to follow. A spiritual adult goes within and does not stop with outer belief systems, tradition and empty statements.

Going within is the most difficult journey that a person will make, on the Hero's Journey.

Bottom line, the threat to sociopaths is a population that is educated, and knows HOW to think critically. Any person or book that leads a person to think for themselves is dangerous and will be banned or censored by a local, regional, or national tyrannical leader.

Hervé Courtois Fukushima disaster cited in only one schoolbook thanks to Education Ministry

The Fukushima nuclear fallout has only been mentioned in one schoolbook thanks to the Education Ministry. Just one single book for elementary school kids briefly cites the disaster that struck Japan about three years ago. Since the words "atom" and "radiation" are not part of the curriculum guidelines for students, just one science textbook was given the green light to be used with primary students.

Besides the topic of nuclear radiation and atomic particle sections being banned from elementary-aged children's science books, the accident was skipped over in their reading material as it lacked sensitivity in doing so in the proper manner. "We could not deal with the issue negatively when our textbook is used in some municipalities hosting a nuclear plant," one editor said, according to a Japan Daily Press article.

Though on the flipside, a single student's book created by Dainippon Tosho Publishing Co. which did cite the accident, only wrote, "The earthquake off the Pacific coast of the Tohoku region triggered an accident at a nuclear power plant," and added that an effective amount of tools were taken on as a lesson learned from the incident.

Gakko Tosho Co., the business that has been noted as one of the six book publishers, tried to put in the material about the subject of radiation as a background for the Fukushima fallout. Japan Daily Press reports that Takahiro Yano, the editor in chief, commented, "We thought that if it is a science textbook, the issue should be included."

An easy to comprehend example, according to the projects done by Polish scientist Marie Curie, who was cited as doing some pioneer studies into radiation was put in the textbook but in a very simple way a young student's mind could grasp.

As Curie's take on water solution studies was already included in the curriculum guidelines, the publisher of the textbook attempted to explain it along the lines of that. Though in the end, the ministry responsible for education did not label the part of the book applicable and mentioned that "there is no appropriate relation with the curriculum's guidelines." This forced the publisher to throw it all away.

After exploring many different churches, belief systems and religions, a spiritual child or teen will grow into a spiritual adult.

A spiritual adult realizes and gets that religions all have many things in common, but certain things are universal, such as the Golden Rule, a Virgin Birth, Resurrection, and Armageddon, for example.

A metaphysician is a spiritual adult, who dives deeper into the inner meanings and realities, such as Christ Consciousness for example. A metaphysician is self aware, and has no need to follow an outer leader or authority figure, and can serve as a minister, communication with a Higher Power/Christ Consciousness,  with his or her own calling, ministry and way of 'seeing' the world from a unique inner perspective that may differ radically from the original 'parent' church, dogma and belief system that is oriented to spiritual babies.

Ancient Essene Wisdom for the 21st Century “The word courage is very interesting. It comes from a Latin root cor, which means “heart.” So to be courageous means to live with the heart. And weaklings, only weaklings, live with the head; afraid, they create a security of logic around themselves. Fearful, they close every window and door—with theology, concepts, words, theories—and inside those closed doors and windows, they hide. The way of the heart is the way of courage. It is to live in insecurity; it is to live in love, and trust; it is to move in the unknown. It is leaving the past and allowing the future to be. Courage is to move on dangerous paths. Life is dangerous, and only cowards can avoid the danger—but then, they are already dead. A person who is alive, really alive, vitally alive, will always move into the unknown. There is danger there, but he will take the risk. The heart is always ready to the the risk, the heart is a gambler. The head is a businessman. The head always calculates—it is cunning. The heart is non-calculating. ”
