Jimmy Carter: U.S. Is “Oligarchy With Unlimited Political Bribery”
Former president Jimmy Carter said Tuesday on the nationally syndicated radio show the Thom Hartmann Program that the United States is now an “oligarchy” in which “unlimited political bribery” has created “a complete subversion of our political system as a payoff to major contributors.” Both Democrats and Republicans, Carter said, “look upon this unlimited money as a great benefit to themselves.”

Carter was responding to a question from Hartmann about recent Supreme Court decisions on campaign financing like Citizens United.

HARTMANN: Our Supreme Court has now said, “unlimited money in politics.” It seems like a violation of principles of democracy. … Your thoughts on that?

CARTER: It violates the essence of what made America a great country in its political system. Now it’s just an oligarchy, with unlimited political bribery being the essence of getting the nominations for president or to elect the president. And the same thing applies to governors and U.S. senators and congress members. So now we’ve just seen a complete subversion of our political system as a payoff to major contributors, who want and expect and sometimes get favors for themselves after the election’s over.

HOW DOES A POLITICAL PARTY WITH 50 PERCENT OF THE POPULATION NOT HAVE ANY CONVENTION, CANDIDATES OR REPRESENTATIVES IN PRESIDENTIAL OR OTHER DEBATES? 

The mass media is guilty of 'rigging' elections, as they portray the Dualopoly as the only game in town and Independents as 'spoilers'. In reality, the situation is that Independents make up the largest voting block and if allowed to have a political party, it would win every election. The rigging is so bad and so large, that Independents are not allowed to win any elections. 

Why is the US the only democracy that only allows two political parties on the mass media, and in the debates? 

Why is there no freedom of choice in the US elections? 

In the US, somewhere between 43-50 percent of the voters identify as belonging to the Independent Party depending on which poll one listens to, but no Independent party candidate can ever be elected in the winner takes all Democrat versus Republican Dualopoly party system. This one statistic alone shows how rigged and corrupt the American political system is. Independent and third party candidates cannot be elected despite being represented by a MAJORITY of the voters.

In the US, the Dualopoly maintains it's stranglehold on power and control via corruption, rigged elections, 1 percent plus corporate financial support, rules that prevent anyone 'outside' from winning, in addition to collusion by the mass media, which almost never talks about or gives air time to third parties or independent candidates that may air anti corporate or anti 1 percent views. Notice that in the above poll, they only discuss 3 'parties', when there are many more, but they are never included in the polls or results. Often, the Independents are not included either, or they are under counted, as they are here.

Only 20 percent of the public even knows about the Green Party, and out of that 20 percent, few of them know what the Green Party stands for, or that it does not accept corporate 'donations'.

The only Independent in Congress or the Senate is Bernie Sanders and the system was rigged against him winning, despite him trying to win inside the Democrat Party.

Jim Patnoudes A friend of mine who is savvy on all the inner workings of politics suggested I challenge a Republican held congressional seat in my district, Illinois district 14. In order to be placed on the ballot in that election, I would have to collect signatures from people living in that district. This is all very standard and most people should be familiar with that part. 

What most people don’t know however, is that in order to run as a democrat, I would have to collect approximately 800 signatures (758 to be exact) in a two month period. But, if I wanted to be placed on the ballot as an independent, I would have to collect over 17,852 signatures in that same two month period. 

That’s democracy. That’s the game folks. Illinois has effectively prevented independents from running for congress. 17,852 signatures in 2 months is next to impossible for the average person like myself. 

Like my friend said: Bernie recognized the only POSSIBLE path is to capture the Democratic Party or live in Vermont where he could more easily get on the ballot. This is why the DNC is doing everything they can to prevent a progressive takeover."

How Did The U.S. End Up With A Two-Party System?

History shows that the founders did not want, desire or have ANY political parties. NO POLITICAL PARTIES EXISTED when George Washington was elected, and these 'founders' never intended for the US political system to be limited to only two parties, which basically wrecks democracy. Remember that America was designed to prevent the 1 percent (the king and his corporate allies) from taking control of power, but that is exactly what has happened in the US. The founding fathers are rolling over in the graves and groaning at what has transpired in the US, since they set up a political system designed to prevent the takeover of the reigns of power by the 1 percent and a few corporate 'kings'. 

According to George Washington, a two party system is effectively a DESPOTISM, and he is exactly right on this point. The 99 percent are no longer represented, and the whole system is set up to benefit the 1 percent alone. Risk and costs are transferred to the 99 percent, while the profits and 'spoils' in the form of corporate welfare and corporate subsidies roll up to the 1 percent.

No matter what part of the Dualopoly you choose, left or right, you will still be trapped in a system of domination and control. America is like a teenager compared to EU countries like Germany, Finland and Holland. Teenagers are compulsive, operate on selfish pleasure and the consequences of actions are not thought about. Fear is a primary driver that rules teenagers via an unconscious belief system programmed into them by family, media, culture and religion. Acting out those fears via projection is much of what encompasses teen behaviours, and likewise much of the American public. Trump is an example of someone who makes up a certain percentage of Americans. There is no empathy or compassion, because only adults have that capacity, but there is plenty of unconscious reaction and projection plus narcissism, as is found so very often in teenagers. As a country, Trump exhibits the unconscious 'stuck' teen on an emotional level.

In America, feelings are not talked about or processed, so fear and hatred goes unconscious and projects outward, manifesting in racism, xenophobia, hatred, fear and selfish desires that have nothing to do with reality. The next election will be test to see how emotionally mature America is. If America is devoid of any emotional intelligence and empathy, it will vote in Trump and face a hard road of pain and suffering. Trump may very well be the next Hitler, US style...

If there were no political parties and anyone could run for office and be listed on the voting sheet on elections day, people would actually have to KNOW something about what their candidate stands for, and what their vision is for the future, rather than just what party they belong to.

If money were not allowed to buy off politicians, control of the elections process would return to the people. Currently corporations control it all, because they outspend unions and others by 10 to 1 in most elections. Jesse Ventura is an example of this. He was outspent 10 to 1 by corporate interests in his run to be governor. It is rare that any candidate wins with those kinds of financial odds against them, even if they are a better person with a better vision for the future.

Corporations control the mass media, and corporations have armies of lobbyists in Congress, where the people have few or none. The US is currently being run and controlled by corporations for the most part, not by it's citizens, and that leads to more and more corruption, in a downward spiral that gets worse and worse. American politics historically used to have many political parties and they ebbed and flowed with the times. One party would become popular and then drop off the radar screen. The Klu Klux clan even had 1 million members at one point and got many candidates elected to Congress, through their favorite political party, but then lost favor. 

The problem with only having two parties covered in the mass media and now via the primary voting system, is that it further concentrates power that is already almost absolute. WHAT IF POLITICAL PARTIES WERE ABOLISHED? 

Some people argue that the BIG TWO political parties, as corrupt as they are, need to be kept in place, because otherwise, Muslims might take over and commit terror acts all over the US. Really? There are at least five horrific attacks on America that were committed by home grown Christian terrorists, not Muslims. Just two weeks ago, Frazier Glenn Cross, the leader of the Carolina Knights of the KKK, was sentenced to death by lethal injection for murdering a fourteen year old girl and two seniors outside the Overland Park Jewish Community Center in Kansas City. The man gave the Hitler salute during his trial and declared that “Jews are destroying the white race.” None of his victims were Jewish.

It is not religion that is the problem, it is extremists within those religions, no matter what religion is being pointed at.

ALL POLITICAL PARTIES NEED TO BE ABOLISHED

Jesse Ventura says that all political parties need to be abolished. Why not just put political candidates names on the ballot, put down with what they stand for or want to change, and not have any parties? No one cares what people stand for anymore.

Most people vote out of fear and being loyal to the party, rather than on what issues are important. Most people would rather support a corrupt, corporate controlled person who sells out for the money, rather than vote for an honest person who is not inside of that particular party.

Absolute power corrupts absolutely. So if that is what you want, keep voting for candidates who crush unions, dismantle worker rights and get rid of freedoms by passing more corporate friendly, anti democracy laws.

What America is ending up with is the rich getting rich, the middle class getting hollowed out, and the poor getting poorer. IN other words, the wealth of the nation is being transferred up to the 1%, and away from the 99%.

Professional sports teams all have salary caps. Why isn't that being done in politics and for the 1%? If you cannot live on 1 million dollars per year, there is something really wrong with you. 

Jesse says that only ignorant fools keep on voting for the two parties. Both the Dems and Reps are the same underneath the appearance of being different. Anyone voting for either of these two corrupt poarties is making things worse. Selling out your vote is voting for a Dualopoly candidate. Even if they go into the system to change it, they end up being corrupted just by diving into it.

THE NEVER ENDING WAR MACHINE AND WAR ECONOMY

The military industrial complex eats up much of the wealth of this country which could be going to fix the infrastructure, or build new bullet trains, or fix the problems around pollution. Instead, a huge percentage of the national budget is going to the war machine, which is nothing more than a racket, fraud and scam. 

Nothing positive comes out of war, and each war only generates the need for another war, just like an addict shooting up with a needle needs another bigger high just to stay even. The need to get higher and higher overrides everything. The military industrial complex needs it's fix with never ending wars on terrorists, including whistle blowers. The war addiction needs to be broken, or it will result in a WWIII involving nuclear weapons at some point.

Americans have an ultimate choice - vote for the Democrat or vote for the Republican. Actually...that's not really much of a choice at all. In fact - other Democracies around the world would laugh at us if we claimed that a vote between one of two major parties here was ACTUALLY a legitimate choice. 

 The truth is - a two-party system isn't really that Democratic at all. And most of the other Democracies on the planet know that - that's why they've reformed their elections to prevent a two-party duopoly from taking over their representative governments.

Did you know there are six political parties represented in the German Congress - the Bundestag - and even more parties represented in state parliaments around Germany - including the Pirate Party? 

 Australia, too, has six parties represented in their parliament. In the Italian Parliament as well - there's six major parties represented - and more than two dozen smaller parties that are represented in some way as well. 

 Brazil has 15 parties represented in Congress. 

 Heck - Israel's Parliament has like 18 parties in it.

Proportional voting allows everyone to vote and have their vote counted, plus have their representative show up in the government decisions. Most democracies in the world work this way, rather than the winner take all system in the US. Isn't having more choices better than just having two candidates? At the very least, everyone has their vote COUNT for something and for someone who will represent them.
