THE POLITICS AROUND GUNS HAS CHANGED DUE TO THE HUGE INCREASE IN THE NUMBER OF MASS SHOOTINGS IN PUBLIC SCHOOLS AND PUBLIC PLACES

Public opinion surveys show dramatically shifting attitudes over time. A Gallup poll conducted in October found 64 percent of Americans want laws covering the sale of firearms to be more strict, the third straight year support for stricter rules has topped 60 percent.
While proposals like requiring background checks on gun sales or allowing police to take weapons away from a potentially dangerous person have stalled, other policies are beginning to gain support.
A month after the Sandy Hook attack, 54 percent of Americans said they supported banning assault rifles and semi-automatic weapons, according to a Fox News poll conducted at the time. A Fox News poll conducted earlier this year showed 67 percent of respondents favored a ban on assault weapons — including 61 percent of rural white Americans, and 53 percent of those who said their household had a gun in it.
At the same time, the NRA is much less popular than it had been in the past. The Fox poll from 2013 found 56 percent of Americans had a favorable opinion of the group; today, just 42 percent see the NRA favorably, and 47 percent see it unfavorably.

Rick Perry’s Solution To Gun Violence: ‘Pray For Our Children’
This afternoon, after watching President Obama’s speech on preventing gun violence, Gov. Rick Perry (R-TX) dismissed the administration’s proposals and suggested that only prayer can lower gun crime rates. Perry said Obama’s remarks “disgust” him and that, instead of responding to violence with new policies, we should “pray for our children.”
There is nothing wrong with prayer, God or religion. But when prayer is the ONLY solution, that is when it starts sounding more like a cult, or an extremely radical group like the Taliban. When common sense legislation goes out the window in favor or prayer, why not toss out all laws, like the laws against murder, rape and robbery? Why not rely on just prayer for all of those ills of society as well? Praying the gay away does not work any more than praying gun violence away does.
It turns out the NRA plus extreme right wing religious zealots who believe in guns, Bible and prayer as the answer for everything. When the NRA is controlling the narrative, and backing extreme right wing religious extremism politicians, then they end up 'owning' the US government, via avalanches of bribes to lawmakers.
The politicians are all 'afraid' of the NRA. They need to keep getting their welfare entitlements from the gun industry, and they cannot be cut off, so they keep voting as they are told by the huge gun manufacturers who control the NRA lobby at this point.
As a result of gun corporations owning the US government, kids keep on getting shot up, killed and maimed, as common sense gun safety legislation, research and solutions are condemned, attacked and demonized in a radical extreme right wing religious 'witch hunt' that advocates an insane policy of praying the gun violence away...
