DENIAL OF REALITY AND REFUSAL TO LEARN FROM ANCIENT ARCHEOLOGICAL HISTORY IS PART OF 'MODERN CIVILIZATION'

Mega earthquakes plus huge volcanic explosions can and do cause huge rogue waves and massive mega tsunamis. In Nature, these huge events happen regularly, but most people do not understand this, nor do they believe it, because it did not happen to them, and it has not happened in their lifetime. Since most modern societies think only short term and do not learn any lessons from history, geology or archeology, we may be doomed to learn the hard way, through massive destruction and chaos caused by extreme 'rogue' Natural events.

In recent years, multiple earthquakes and tsunamis have hit multiple nations. It is only a matter of time before the US and other continents are hit by a mega earthquake and/or a mega tsunami just like Japan was hit in March of 2011 by a force 9 earthquake, followed by a fairly small tsunami wave.

SCIENCE HAS DISCOVERED THAT HUGE BLOCKS OF VOLCANIC ROCK CAN AND DO SLIDE OFF THE SIDES OF VOLCANOES INTO THE OCEAN, WHERE THAT CAUSES A HUGE MEGA TSUNAMIC

La Palma Tsunami Documentary | National Geographic Mega Tsunami Documentary HD

This 2011 National Geographic documentary examines the possibility of a La Palma mega tsunami caused by a volcanic eruption and landslide into the sea. A La Palma tsunami could be more devastating than the 2004 Boxing Day Tsunami, caused by an earthquake and megathrust landslip under the Indian Ocean that killed 250,000 people from Australia to Arabia. Or the 2011 Pacific tsunami caused by a 9.1 earthquake and megathrust landslip off the east coast of Japan that disabled three nuclear reactors. Scattered across the world’s oceans are a handful of geological time bombs.

Once unleashed, they create an extraordinary phenomenon, a mega tsunami. More massive than a regular tsunami, mega tsunamis are caused by volcanic landslides and cross oceans to ravage countries on the other side of the world. Scientists now realise that the next mega tsunami is likely to originate on the volcanic island of La Palma. A La Palma mega tsunami would race across the Atlantic at the speed of a jetliner devastating the Caribean and the East Coast of the USA.

Back in 1953, two geologists travelled to a remote bay in Alaska looking for oil. They soon noticed that the bay showed signs of being hit by huge waves and wondered what could have caused them. Five years later, they got their answer. In 1958 a towering cliff collapsed into the bay, causing a mega tsunami over half a kilometre high. The true destructive potential of a landslide-generated tsunami, which scientists have termed a mega tsunami, suddenly became apparent. If a moderate landslide in a bay in Alaska could generate a tsunami of this size, what type of tsunami could be generated by the lateral collapse of a volcanic island into the sea?

Geologists began to look for evidence of past landslides and were amazed by what they found on the seafloor. The sea bed around Hawaii, for example, was covered with the remains of millions of years’ worth of ancient volcanic landslides. And, high above sea level at numerous locations, the remains of sea creatures bore witness to gigantic destructive waves in the recent past. The last one happened 4,000 years ago on the island of Réunion in the Indian Ocean.

The growing concern is that a volcanic eruption on La Palma could lead to a massive landslide and mega tsunami. In 1949 the southern volcano on La Palma erupted. An enormous crack then appeared across one side of the volcano as the western half slipped a few metres towards the sea. Some scientists now believe that the west flank of the volcano is in imminent danger of collapse. In other words, a future volcanic eruption on La Palma will release some 500,000 million tonnes of rock into the sea causing a mega tsunami.

Scientists predict that a La Palma mega tsunami will be almost inconceivably destructive, far greater than anything ever witnessed in modern times. It will surge across the Atlantic Ocean in a matter of hours, wiping out towns and cities across the Caribbean and engulfing the east coast of the USA up to 20 km inland. LA PALMA VOLCANO HAS THE POTENTIAL TO CREATE A MEGA TSUNAMI WAVE THAT CAN DESTROY THE ENTIRE EAST COAST OF THE US, IF SIDE OF VOLCANO COLLAPSES INTO ATLANTIC OCEAN

A Mega-Tsunami Is Coming; Can the East Coast Even Prepare?
In 1949, the Cumbre Vieja volcano erupted along the coast of La Palma and caused an earthquake that created a mile-long fissure on its east side.

The force of the fissure then caused the volcano’s west side to slip six feet into the Atlantic Ocean. It has since remained in this position, it's estimated 1.5 trillion metric tons waiting like a ticking time bomb.

ABOUT LA PALMA

Wikipedia; "La Palma (Spanish pronunciation: [la ˈpalma], locally [lɐ ˈpɑ(l)mɐ]), also San Miguel de La Palma, is the most north-westerly island of the Canary Islands, Spain. La Palma has an area of 708 square kilometres (273 sq mi) making it the fifth largest of the eight main Canary Islands. The total population at the end of 2020 was 85,840,[2] of which 15,716 lived in the capital, Santa Cruz de La Palma and about 20,467 in Los Llanos de Aridane. Its highest mountain is the Roque de los Muchachos, at 2,423 metres (7,949 ft), being second among the peaks of the Canaries only to the peaks of the Teide massif on Tenerife.

In 1815, the German geologist Leopold von Buch visited the Canary Islands. It was as a result of his visit to Tenerife, where he visited the Las Cañadas caldera, and then later to La Palma, where he visited the Taburiente caldera, that the Spanish word for cauldron or large cooking pot – "caldera" – was introduced into the geological vocabulary. In the center of the island is the Caldera de Taburiente National Park; one of four national parks in the Canary Islands.

Origins and geology

La Palma, like the other islands of the Canary Island archipelago, is a volcanic ocean island. The volcano rises almost 7 km (4 mi) above the floor of the Atlantic Ocean.[3] There is road access from sea level to the summit at 2,426 m (7,959 ft),[4] which is marked by an outcrop of rocks called Los Muchachos ("The Lads"). This is the site of the Roque de los Muchachos Observatory, one of the world's premier astronomical observatories.

La Palma's geography is a result of the volcanic formation of the island. The highest peaks reach over 2,400 m (7,874 ft) above sea level, and the base of the island is located almost 4,000 m (13,123 ft) below sea level. The northern part of La Palma is dominated by the Caldera de Taburiente, with a width of 9 km (6 mi) and a depth of 1,500 m (4,921 ft). It is surrounded by a ring of mountains ranging from 1,600 m (5,249 ft) to 2,400 m (7,874 ft) in height. On its northern side is the exposed remains of the original seamount. Only the deep Barranco de las Angustias ("Ravine of Anxiety") ravine leads into the inner area of the caldera, which is a national park. It can be reached only by hiking. The outer slopes are cut by numerous gorges which run from 2,000 m (6,562 ft) down to the sea. Today, only a few of these carry water due to the many water tunnels that have been cut into the island's structure.

From the Caldera de Taburiente to the south runs the ridge Cumbre Nueva ('New Ridge', which despite its name is older than the Cumbre Vieja, 'Old Ridge.') The southern part of La Palma consists of the Cumbre Vieja, a volcanic ridge formed by numerous volcanic cones built of lava and scoria. The Cumbre Vieja is active, currently erupting in the 2021 La Palma eruption. Beyond Punta de Fuencaliente at the southern tip of the island, the Cumbre Vieja continues in a southerly direction as a submarine volcano.

Like all of the Canary Islands, La Palma originally formed as a seamount through submarine volcanic activity. La Palma is currently, along with Tenerife, the most volcanically active of the Canary Islands and was formed three to four million years ago. Its base lies almost 4,000 m (13,123 ft) below sea level and reaches a height of 2,426 m (7,959 ft) above sea level.[5]

About a half a million years ago, the Taburiente volcano collapsed with a giant landslide, forming the Caldera de Taburiente. Erosion has since exposed part of the seamount in the northern sector of the Caldera. Since the Spanish have kept records, there have been eight eruptions – all of which have occurred on the Cumbre Vieja:

1470–1492 Montaña Quemada
1585 Tajuya near El Paso
1646 Volcán San Martin
1677 Volcán San Antonio
1712 El Charco
1949 Volcán Nambroque at the Duraznero, Hoyo Negro and Llano del Banco vents
1971 Volcán Teneguía

The volcano started erupting again on 19th September 2021 after a seismic crisis rocked the island.[6]

Tsunami scenarios

Further information: Cumbre Vieja § Future threats

During the 1949 eruption – which commenced on the festivity of San Juan (St John) 24 June 1949 at the Duraznero, and 8 July 1949 Llano del Banco vents on the Cumbre Vieja – an earthquake, with an epicentre near Jedey, occurred. This is considered to have caused a 2.5-kilometre-long (1.6 mi) crack which Bonelli Rubio (1950)[7] named "La Grieta" – (the crack), to form, with a width of about 1 m (3 ft 3 in) and a depth of about 2 m (6 ft 7 in). It attains a maximum displacement of ~4 m (13 ft) in the vicinity of the Hoyo Negro to Duraznero vents.

It is not traceable southward from the Duraznero vent. North of the Hoyo Negro it traverses downslope and is traceable for ~1500 m. The total distance from the southern rim of the Duraznero vent to the Llano del Banco is ~4 km. In 1951 Ortiz and Bonelli-Rubio published further information in respect of the eruption and associated phenomena that occurred before and during the eruption.[8]

There is no indication that the crack has penetrated the edifice of the volcano, and, due to the absence of Minas Galerias (water tunnels) within the Cumbre Vieja, there is no possibility of examining the internal structure of the flank. Carracedo et al.;.[9] This means that claims that the flank is in danger of failing are unfounded. However the lack of supporting evidence has not stopped claims that the flank is in danger of failing.

In a program transmitted by the British Broadcasting Corporation BBC Horizon broadcast on 12 October 2000, two geologists (Day and McGuire) cited La Grieta as proof that half of the Cumbre Vieja had moved towards the Atlantic Ocean (Day et al.; 1999,[10] and Ward and Day, 2001[11]). They postulate that this process was driven by the pressure caused by the rising magma heating water trapped within the structure of the island.

They hypothesized that during a future eruption, the western flank of the Cumbre Vieja, with a mass of approximately 1.5 x1015 kg, could slide into the ocean. This could then potentially generate a giant wave which they termed a "megatsunami" around 650–900 m (2,130–2,950 ft) high in the region of the islands. The wave would radiate out across the Atlantic and inundate much of the eastern seaboard of North America about 7 hours later, many of the islands in the Caribbean and northern coasts of South America between six and eight hours later.

They estimate that the tsunami will have waves possibly 50 m (164 ft) or higher causing massive devastation along the coastlines. Modelling suggests that the tsunami could inundate up to 25 km (16 mi) inland – depending upon topography. The basis for Ward and Day (2001)[11] modelling the collapse of a much larger portion of the western flank than what the currently visible surface crack indicates as being potentially unstable, was based on geological mapping by Day et al.; (1999).[10] In this paper they argue that a large part of the western flank has been constructed in the scar of a previous collapse and therefore sits upon unstable debris.

However, nowhere in their paper do Ward and Day, (2001),[11] make any claim about the imminent collapse of the flank. They state that they have modelled the worst-case scenario, and as a result they state "a future collapse has the potential to cause a tsunami which may devastate the east coast of the USA and other locations".

The claim was also explored in a BBC docu-drama called End Day which went through several hypothetical scenarios of disastrous proportions.

In 2002 the Tsunami Society (Pararas-Carayannis, 2002[12]), published a statement stating "... We would like to halt the scaremongering from these unfounded reports..." The major points raised in this report include:

The claim that half of Cumbre Vieja dropped 4 m (13 ft) during the 1949 eruption is erroneous, and contradicted by physical evidence.

No evidence was sought or shown that there is a fault line separating a "block" of La Palma from the other half.

Physical evidence shows a 4 km (2 mi) long line in the rock, but the models assumed a 25 km (16 mi) line, for which no physical evidence was given. Further, there is no evidence shown that the 4 km (2 mi) long line extends beyond the surface.

There has never been an Atlantic mega tsunami in recorded history.

See Fogo, Cape Verde for an example of a geologically recent Atlantic mega tsunami.

A survey carried out by Moss et al.; (1999)[13] reported that the western flank is stable with no indication of aseismic creep being recorded.

In 2001 Carracedo et al.;[9] stated that they consider the 1949 crack to be a shallow and inactive surface expression. They do suggest that the crack should be monitored, but consider the possibility that the edifice is unstable as being almost non-existent.

Murty et al.; (2005)[14] claim that the morphology of the Atlantic Ocean prevents the generation and propagation of trans-oceanic tsunamis. However the Tohoku tsunami of 2011 propagated to Hawaii and the coast of California, a distance much greater than a trans-Atlantic crossing.

In 2006 professor Jan Nieuwenhuis of Delft University of Technology simulated several volcanic eruptions and calculated it would take another 10,000 years for the flanks to become sufficiently high and unstable to cause a massive collapse.,[15]

A 2008 paper looked into this very worst-case scenario, the most massive slide that could happen (though unlikely and probably impossible right now with the present day geology). They find wave heights in the range 10 to 188 meters in the Canary Isles themselves. But the waves interfere and dissipate as they head out into the Atlantic. They predict 40 meters height for some nearby island systems. For continents, the worst effects are in Northern Brazil (13.6 m), French Guyana (12.7 m), mid-US (9.6 m), Western Sahara (largest prediction at 37 meters) and Mauritania (9.7 m). This is not large enough to count as a mega tsunami, with the highest prediction for Western Sahara comparable to the Japanese tsunami, so it would only be a mega tsunami locally in the mid Atlantic.[16]

An underwater eruption that began in September 2011 south of the island of El Hierro gave rise to more speculation about the possibility of a mega tsunami.[17][18] As each island in the archipelago is an independent edifice often several tens of kilometers away from the adjacent island it is geologically impossible that volcanic activity on one island will influence the other islands. El Hierro lies about 100 km south of La Palma, over 100 km south-west of Tenerife. La Gomera – extinct since about 4 million year BP, Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura no eruptive history since about 10000 years BY, Lanzarote last erupted in the 19th century.

On Saturday and Sunday 7–8 October 2017, a series of minor tremors sparked panic on the Canary Islands, bringing up the topic again and asking how long the island will last until the next eruption/quake and how they will prepare for such an event.[19] The north of the Spanish archipelago was struck by a 3.5 magnitude quake on 24 October 2017 at 8.25pm.[20]
Climate[edit]

La Palma has a mild and consistent tropical semi-arid climate, which in the Köppen climate classification is represented as BSh. It has significant influences of the mediterranean climate due to its quite wet winters. For a Canary island, the weather is quite cloudy, as La Palma is far more exposed to marine air systems than easterly islands.

Evidence of prehistoric monster wave 250 meters high off the African coast indicates that the theory of slow collapses and 'small' tsunamis doesn't hold water.
Ruth Schuster Oct 02, 2015

Are today's coastal populations in danger of drowning from a mega-tsunami caused by sudden collapse of a volcano, say, or a coastal shelf? Yes, according to a new study that found evidence of a mega-tsunami 250 meters in height caused by the collapse of a volcanic flank 73,000 years ago, scientists say. To put things into proportion, the wave they found would have reached more than halfway up New York's Empire State Building. It isn't that any danger is imminent. But we may have precious little warning if it happens. …

… The catastrophic waves that struck Indonesia in 2004, killing around 230,000, and Japan in 2011, causing the Fukushima meltdown, were not mega-tsunamis, with all due respect to media hyperbole. They were about 30 meters in height. …

SUPER VOLCANO CALDERA DISCOVERED NOT TOO FAR FROM THE PHILLIPINES

7 Major Earth Changes That Are Happening Right Now That Everyone Needs To Know About#5 During the first half of 2020, volcanoes all over the world have been roaring to life and have been shooting giant clouds of hot ash miles into the sky. For example, in the Philippines the Taal volcano shot ash nine miles into the air on Sunday, it has also been shooting scorching hot lava half a mile into the air, and the ground around the volcano is starting to crack wide open.

But even after all the devastation that we have already seen, authorities are warning that it could “re-explode at any moment”

The gray ash is knee-deep. It covers the homes, the bloated cadavers of cows and horses, their limbs protruding at unnatural angles in the shadow of a sulking volcano that could re-explode at any moment.

“My home is now gone,” said Melvin Mendoza, 39, a boatman who returned on Tuesday to Taal, the volcanic island in the middle of a freshwater lake just 40 miles south of Manila, which erupted on Sunday like an atomic bomb mushroom cloud.

Let us hope that this volcanic activity does not spread throughout that general area, because the largest super volcano caldera in the entire world has been discovered not too far from the Philippines

THE VOLCANO KRAKATOA GENERATED MULTIPLE TSUNAMIS, ONE OF WHICH WAS 131 FEET HIGH, MUCH HIGHER THAN ANY SEA WALL BUILT TO PROTECT ANY NUCLEAR PLANT, ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD

Imagine if this happened in the Pacific ocean... Diablo Canyon is not protected from a 131 foot tsunami, and neither is the shut down San Onofre with a huge load of thousands of nuclear bombs worth of spent fuel that must be actively cooled, or it releases all of that radiation via melt down, melt out and or blowing up. The Hawaiian islands are volcanic and have in the past experienced a huge tsunami creating event due to part of the volcano sliding into the ocean catastrophically.

Krakatoa, The Great Volcanic Eruption - Documentary
VIDEO: https://youtu.be/15OyN9MNehs 1 hour 25 min.

Krakatoa generated massive tsunami waves via repeated volcanic explosions. One tsunami was estimated to be 40 METERS high, which would equal 131 feet. Other tsunamis were generated up to 80 feet high tsunami waves. Krakatoa erupted numerous times, causing huge ash falls, which would have brought the grid down completely if one had existed back then. Nuclear plants melt down and out when the grid is down, and no power can come into the plant for extended periods, because the back up systems fail fairly quickly.

ROGUE OCEAN WAVES UP TO 120 FEET TALL ARE POSSIBLE, AND 95 FOOT ROGUE WAVE HAS BEEN DOCUMENTED WITH A LASER SIGHTER ON AN OIL PLATFORM AND THAT IS WITHOUT ANY EARTHQUAKE OR TSUNAMI

Due to global warming and climate change, rogue waves are becoming more common and larger, for the same reasons that huge storms are becoming much more severe, longer and more sudden.

Rogue Waves (Monster Waves)

vincent7520 In his book published around 1965, "Heavy Weather Sailing", Adlard Coles published several pictures of "monster waves" that exceeded 60 - 80 ft. He called them "monster" because of their unusual size. It seems that (as far as my memory doesn't fail me) what they called "rogue waves" at the time was more an unpredictable and very destructive wave but not necessarily very high. They were the result of a combination of two waves patterns coming from different directions and compounded in such a way they were much bigger that the usual pattern of the moment and coming from a different direction such as "pyramidal waves".

Yachtsmen began talking about them when some started to circumnavigate by way of the Horn thus discovering weather and sea patterns other sailors never encountered before (or if they did they didn't make it to tell us). Good video but I am very surprised that "rogue" or "monster" waves were considered a myth till the 80's… I must say that I've heard stories about them from mariners in commercial vessels (ie. they were not summer sailors bragging from one glass too many…) since I started sailing in the 50's. At any rate the photos taken from the deck of a commercial ship in the 60s and published by Allard Coles in his book certainly makes this statement quite hazardous… "rogue" / "monster" waves were believed to exist long before the 80's"

HUGE EARTHQUAKES AND TSUNAMIS EASILY TAKE OUT HUGE AND MODERN NUCLEAR PLANTS, AS EASILY AS A DOBERMAN TAKING A RATTLE FROM A BABY; 100 PERCENT FAILURE RATE DOCUMENTED VIA FUKUSHIMA; THE MOST MODERN AND SAFETY ORIENTED NUCLEAR FACILITY EVER BUILT

A massive earthquake caused the Fukushima complex to melt down and out. The tsunami that followed just made it that much worse, but the huge wave did not cause the meltdowns. It just took out any remaining hope of backup systems working to restore any function. But since the cooling pipes were broken by the earthquake, and the grid connection to most of the reactors located at Fukushima got taken down by the earthquake as well, no backup system would have worked for long anyway.

A close call hit Japan in April of 2016, when a couple of large earthquakes hit the southern area of Japan, near the Sendai Nuclear Plant.

These quakes hit one after another and the second earthquake was actually LARGER than the first one. But the authorities decided to keep the Sendai NPP operating and not shut it down, despite the ongoing constant earthquakes only 140 km or so away.
There were reports of food and water running out, no trains, buses or cars allowed in or out due to landslides, breaks, etc. Water was cut off by broken pipes, so unless emergency water and food is flown in, they are on their own.. There were long lines for the emergency water and food being handed out, emergency shelters overflowing. There were lots of landslides, broken roads, broken bridges, freeways destroyed or blocked..

Abe said he was sending in 25000 troops, but refused US help. Over 160,000 people are in emergency shelters. 240,000 people forced to move out of their homes. Many are living in their cars but cannot go anywhere due to blocked roads, broken bridges, and no power for gas. All the stores are closed. The water supply was cut off to an estimated 400,000 homes, per NHK.

Evacuation warnings issued by Kumamoto municipalities
The town of Misato, Kumamoto Prefecture, issued a warning at 4:00 p.m. on April 16 for all residents to evacuate. "Full evacuation warnings for the towns of Oguni, Minamioguni and Kosa were subsequently issued at around 5:00 p.m., with residents being asked to remain calm. The city of Yatsushiro issued an evacuation warning at 5:00 p.m. covering two districts. The city of Uto also issued an evacuation warning at 9:40 p.m."
This close call examples proves that the nuclear industry is more interested in profits than safety. It would be way too late to do anything if an earthquake hit and the nuclear reactor was in full power mode. If it was shut down when an earthquake hit, odds are much better of avoiding a meltdown or melt out, even if the cooling pipes broke or a spent fuel pool cracked open.

When will humanity learn this lesson?

Today, nuclear engineers are so guaranteed sure that Nature will never win against their 'expertise' and multiple redundant safety systems. They keep on guaranteeing things and promising all kinds of stuff, despite failure after failure, the latest and greatest being Fukushima Daichi, where multiple reactors all failed, 100 percent, despite modern earthquake proof, tsunami proof, power loss proof design by the best nuclear and other engineers.

NUCLEAR REGULATORS AND NUCLEAR COMPANIES DON'T CARE ABOUT TSUNAMIS OR HUGE EARTHQUAKES AT ALL; IF THEY HAPPEN, THEY BLAME IT ALL ON POLITICIANS; THEY DEMAND THAT TAXPAYERS PAY FOR THE DAMAGES, NOT THE NUCLEAR INDUSTRY

PhilipUpNorth April 22, 2016 Quake Risk Is Apparently None Of NRA's Business
"Various parties with social credibility in Japan have been calling for the Sendai plant to be shut down until this swarm of quakes is considered over. It would also be prudent to call for an in depth inspection of the plant due to the potential for incremental damage that may have gone unnoticed and can’t be identified on cursory walk through inspections. Japan’s NRA has attempted to absolve themselves of responsibility for both this risk we have identified and any forced shut down for safety concerns related to Sendai. NRA stated that any preventative measure shutdown of Sendai such as this ongoing quake risk was not within the scope of the agency and that it would be a “political” decision. NRA has used this excuse in the past when asked about the lack of viable evacuation planning related to various reactors slated for eventual restarts."

There are multiple nuclear reactors in just one bay on the East Coast of the US, and over 100 nuclear plants are operating currently in America. What are the odds that they would live through a massive tsunami hitting the East Coast of America? NONE.

Especially in bays, any tsunami is magnified and grows much larger than a wave hitting on an open coast, where the water has lots of room to recede. A bay concentrates and builds tsunami waves to many multiples of the wave height out on an open coast where there is no bay. Where are many nuclear plants built? Inside of bays, many nuclear plants are located, right where a tsunami will overwhelm any and all of their defenses.

World Nuclear; "In the last century there have been eight tsunamis in the region with maximum amplitudes at origin above 10 metres (some much more), these having arisen from earthquakes of magnitude 7.7 to 8.4, on average one every 12 years. Those in 1983 and in 1993 were the most recent affecting Japan, with maximum heights at origin of 14.5 metres and 31 metres respectively, both induced by magnitude 7.7 earthquakes. The June 1896 earthquake of estimated magnitude 8.3 produced a tsunami with run-up height of 38 metres in Tohoku region, killing more than 27,000 people.

Beyond whatever insurance Tepco might carry for its reactors is the question of third party liability for the accident. Japan was not party to any international liability convention but its law generally conforms to them, notably strict and exclusive liability for the operator. Early in 2015 Japan ratified the Convention on Supplementary Compensation for Nuclear Damage (CSC). Two laws governing liability are revised about every ten years: the Law on Compensation for Nuclear Damage and Law on Contract for Liability Insurance for Nuclear Damage. Plant operator liability is exclusive and absolute (regardless of fault), and power plant operators must provide a financial security amount of JPY 120 billion (US$ 1.46 billion) – it was half that to 2010. The government may relieve the operator of liability if it determines that damage results from “a grave natural disaster of an exceptional character” (which it did not do here), and in any case total liability is unlimited.

2012 TSUNAMI IN BRITISH COLUMBIA GENERATED 42 FOOT (13 METER) WAVES; ENTIRE WEST COAST IS AT RISK FOR MASSIVE TSUNAMIS, JUST LIKE JAPAN OR ANY OTHER COAST LINE

American Indian stories document huge waves on the West Coast, before American 'settlers' arrived

26 min. in; A geologist has documented 41 major earthquakes that then caused tsunamis in the last 10,000 years on the west coast of America. The average repeat time is 240 years, and we are now over 300 years since the last big one, so the west coast is long overdue for another mega earthquake that will then cause a huge tsunami.

.... tsunamis do not always leave a lot of evidence behind, unlike the tsunamis generated by the giant quakes known to occur along the Cascadia subduction zone that runs from Vancouver Island south to California. — the sand layers left by the tsunamis have been found up and down the coast providing evidence of 19 giant Cascadia quakes in the last 10,000 years.

Luckily, there was no nuclear power plant or community in the path of these 42 tsunami waves on the BC coast. The 42 foot high wave was generated by a relatively small earthquake. What happens when the Cascadia fault slips for several hundred miles and generates a huge 9.0 or 10.0 earthquake plus a mega tsunami?

USA - WEST COAST TSUNAMI WARNING! 50 TO 100 FOOT TSUNAMIS ARE POSSIBLE AND WILL HAPPEN EVENTUALLY; EMERGENCY PLANNING SHOULD INCLUDE THIS AND PREPARE FOR IT

The following scientific abstract details historically that the west coast of the US has been hit several times in the last one hundred years by 50 to 100 foot or higher tsunami waves. Again, the same thing applies; all nuclear power plants are not prepared for this if they are located within several miles of the coastline. Currently, Diablo Canyon is the primary target, but San Onofre is also a target because even though it is shut down, the spent fuel pools need constant cooling or they will boil off the water and melt down, catch on fire, just like they did at Fukushima.

Abstract

Approximately, 1996, Unocal historian Darwin Sainz mentioned the newly built Union Oil “Oilport” refinery in what is now Shell Beach (between Pismo and Avila Beaches and at 50 to 100 feet elevation) was destroyed by a tsunami in the early 1900’s. July 2009, George Plafker reported, “a bigger earthquake and a more destructive tsunami than the 1964 event are possible in the future”. The 1812 Santa Barbara Channel earthquake produced 5 tsunami waves approximately 50 feet in height to the front of the Santa Barbara Presidio based on a Franciscan Father’s journal.

12 TO 50 FOOT TSUNAMI WAVES HIT SANTA BARBARA IN 1877, AND IN 1878

A book on “Shipwrecks, Smugglers, and Maritime Mysteries” by Wheeler and Kallman reports the largest wave was 48-50 feet estimated by the USGS west of Santa Barbara near Goleta. The “History of San Luis Obispo County, California” by Thompson and West (1883) reports 12 feet tsunamis occurred on August 13, 1868 (Peruvian earthquake) and April 16, 1877. On November 22, 1878, turbulent water in the absence of wind produced tsunamis that broke over the Morro Bay sand spit (current quad sheet high elevations 66 to 97 feet N to S), destroyed Avila and Pt. Sal piers, damaging Cayucos pier.

A Japanese earthquake resulted in a tsunami at 12:40 PM December 9, 1907, near high tide and in already heavy seas, that stood out from the rest of the storm due to its’ enormous height. It wrecked the Ventura pier (12-13-1907, SLO Tribune) and the Oilport pier (12-13-1907, SLO Tribune  12-6-1976 also 12-14-1907, Santa Maria Times  12-10-1907 SLO Telegram) at Shell beach and destroyed the Oilport refinery (Darwin Sainz, personal communication). Before 7 AM on November 26, 1913, tsunamis wrecked the Monterey area including waves 10 to 15 feet above the Del Monte wharf.

CENTRAL COAST OF CALIFORNIA GOT HIT BY MULTIPLE TSUNAMIS IN YEARS 1812, 1878, 1907, 1913

At Seaside, “Immense domes of water and foam shot up above the general height” … “appearing from here to be higher than the highest sandhills along the shore.”(12-2-1913, SLO Tribune) Current quad sheet high elevations are 120 feet. These reports of historic tsunamis represent wave elevations significantly higher than the 1964 Alaska earthquake tsunami that is typically used for emergency planning for tsunami inundation in California. Since it appears 4 much larger tsunamis occurred in the Central Coast area in 1812, 1878, 1907 and 1913; it appears we may have become complacent during this recent period of tsunami quiescence. Emergency planning for Central Coast tsunamis should be anticipating tsunami waves in the 50 to 100 feet elevation range.

USA - EAST COAST 300 FOOT MEGA TSUNAMI WARNING!

300 Foot Tsunami and East Coast Destruction
130,000 years ago (some reports say 50,000 years ago), seismic tremors produced massive landslides at El Hierro as a giant piece of the island split off and crashed down into the ocean, scattering along the seafloor. The submarine landslide, which consisted of approximately 300 cubic kilometers of earth, resulted in the creation of the huge amphitheater of the El Golfo valley, and more importantly caused a super tsunami that most likely rose over 100 meters high, 300 feet, and probably reached as far away as the American coast.

BILL MCGUIRE GEOPHYSICIST WARNS OF MEG A TSUNAMI TO HIT EAST COAST
The video above describes an East coast risk of tsunami, from a huge volcano sliding into the ocean. This can create a huge wave that will strike the US coast, probably the East coast. Archaeological records show that tsunamis have hit the East Coast and went up the sides of the mountains several hundred feet, tossing huge piles of torn out trees up at that height. The next video describes what do to in case a tsunami is coming and how to recognize one.

EARTHQUAKES GENERATED MULTIPLE TSUNAMIS THAT THEN HIT THE EAST COAST OF AMERICA; IN THE YEARS 1755, 1811, 1886, 1929, TOTALING 40 TSUNAMIS SINCE THE YEAR 1600; WHY ARE NO NUCLEAR PLANTS PREPARED FOR THIS RISK, WHICH IS GUARANTEED TO HAPPEN?

The threat of tsunamis and tsunami-like waves hitting the eastern United States is very real despite a general impression to the contrary. We have cataloged 40 tsunamis and tsunami-like waves that have occurred in the eastern United States since 1600. Tsunamis were generated from such events as the 1755 Queen Anne’s earthquake, the Grand Banks event of 1929, the Charleston earthquake of 1886, and the New Madrid earthquakes of 1811-1812.

Of course, any nuclear plant on the east coast anywhere along the ocean or within several miles of the ocean on a river is subject to the same risk that took out Fukushima. Ideally, the lesson learned from Fukushima should have been to close down all nuclear plants within several miles of the ocean, anywhere on the globe. It seems to be hard for humans to learn lessons from others. Usually, they have to experience it themselves, it seems.

Why are no nuclear plants located on the ocean prepared for a huge earthquake generated tsunami?

WHAT IS THE PROBABILITY OF A TERRORIST, AN EARTHQUAKE OR OF A TSUNAMI TAKING OUT  A NUCLEAR PLANT IN AMERICA?

The question is not IF, but rather the question is WHEN the next large tsunami or earthquake will hit and which areas will be worst affected.  Prepare and you may live through it, especially if you know what to do.

What Is The Statistical Probability Of A Major Nuclear Accident Like Fukushima In The USA, Or In Your Country?
http://agreenroad.blogspot.com/2013/09/what-is-statistical-probability-of.html

LESSONS FROM FUKUSHIMA - GLOBAL WARNING!

The question is not IF, but rather the question is WHEN the next large 50 to 100 foot plus tsunami waves will hit and which areas will be worst affected. It does not make any sense to build nuclear plants on the coast, where they will be destroyed in any huge earthquake/tsunami, just as Fukushima was on 3/11.

All nuclear plants should be shut down on both US coasts as soon as possible.

All nuclear plants on all ocean coasts everywhere should be shut down and all of their very highly radioactive and dangerous spent fuel should be moved inland at least 50 miles, or put in dry cask storage somewhere inland.

There is no way a nuclear plant can live through a 50 to 100 foot tsunami wave that will knock out power and trash the place, plus wreck support equipment, tools, storage tanks, pipes, pumps and more. No nuclear plant is built to withstand 50 to 100 foot plus tsunami waves.

Fukushima taught the world that a nuclear plant cannot resist an earthquake or a huge tsunami wave. Either one will take out a nuclear plant, but both happening together guarantee the resultant mega nuclear disaster that can bankrupt a nation, and potentially also cause an ELE event. Must Fukushima be repeated in the US and other nations, or will the global village learn from the Fukushima mega disaster, which was covered up about 99%, in terms of both scope and severity, by the nuclear industry and it's allies.

At Fukushima Daichi, 3 Or More Coriums Melted Out Compared To 1 At Chernobyl

The sad consequence of this cover up is that other nations don't feel there is a lesson to be learned from Fukushima, because 'nothing' happened, according to the total failure of the mass media to cover and investigate this mega disaster..

Odds are great, based on past evidence of ignored warnings, that all nations globally that have nuclear power plants now, will ignore the warning. As a consequence, more mega nuclear and natural disasters will have to happen, and global radiation levels will have to increase further and do more damage, and cause many more deaths, with a possibility of an ELE event, depending on specific local circumstances. A huge wave is not the only thing that can take out a number of nuclear plants all at once.

India was lucky that there were no nuclear power plants in the area where this tsunami hit, but now India is on the tsunami or solar storm 'hit list'.  As countries put more nuclear power plants on the coasts and on rivers the dangers rise, because floods, earthquakes and tsunamis do happen on a fairly regular basis, and they will overwhelm any and all human defenses.

JAPANESE TSUNAMI OF 2011 CAUSED THE 100 PERCENT FAILURE OF MANY MODERN, SUPPOSEDLY MELT DOWN PROOF SET OF MULTIPLE NUCLEAR REACTORS

The Japanese earthquake and tsunami was a wake up call to the world, because the combination of the earthquake and huge waves damaged a large number of nuclear power plants, not just Fukushima.

But the lessons were not learned, because the nuclear industry decided to cover up and deny what happened, rather than move forward and apply the lessons learned in order to ensure the safety of the human race.

You can see a small boat, which looks like a white dot at the bottom of the picture in the water, which shows the huge scale of destruction and the incomprehensible height of this wave, caused by a mega tsunami.

On July 9, 1958, an earthquake with a magnitude of 8.3 on the Richter scale rocked a small inlet in Alaska called Lituya Bay. It then caused part of a mountain at the back of the bay to collapse, causing a monstrous tsunami to fly headlong through the bay. At a mountain at the mouth of the bay, the run was measured to be 524 meters, making it the largest wave in recorded history.

This tsunami wave washed up the side of the mountain in the bay up to a height of 1,722 feet. Just to give some idea of how high this is, it is put next to some skyscrapers above.

ANY HALF DECENT SIZE VOLCANIC ERUPTION AND RESULTING ASH CLOUD CAN EASILY TAKE OUT A NUCLEAR PLANT

The nuclear industry claims that at least one nuclear plant near a volcano has been 'modified' to withstand 6 inches of volcanic ash.  Really?

unincredulous April 16, 2016 "The plant stated equipment has been modified to withstand 6 inches of volcanic ash, the estimated size of a major eruption 30,000 years ago. The last major eruption was 10,000 years ago."
http://www.pri.org/stories/2015-08-17/volcano-near-nuclear-plant-raising-concerns-japan

Weakest link in the chain:

One centimeter of volcanic ash on a electrical power line "can cause arcing and take the power grid down."

6 inches huh? Special electrons…"

When a nuclear plant loses it's connection to the grid, it melts down, especially if that volcanic ash also shorts out the generators and on site electrical backup systems. Planes do not fly through volcanic ash clouds due to the ionic disturbances and negative impacts that the ash has on the jet engines. People and electronic equipment also does very poorly or quits functioning at all inside of a volcanic ash cloud.

A 10 KM WIDE METEOR HIT EARTH 66 MILLION YEARS AGO, CAUSING A 5 KILOMETER HIGH TSUNAMI, WHICH ALSO WIPED OUT ALL DINOSAURS AND MOST LIFE ON EARTH DUE TO ARTIFICIAL WINTER THAT FOLLOWED FOR MANY YEARS

What is the maximum that Nature is capable of? This kind of tsunami may not happen very often, but it helps to understand that Nature can overwhelm even the best of human created anything. No human engineering or safety systems can withstand a 10 km wide meteor hitting Earth, which would then cause a 5 km high tsunami, which would travel across any ocean or water body it struck, wiping out all life for several miles inland, if not further.

GAS AND OIL DRILLING, VIA FRACKING ALSO CAUSES EARTHQUAKES, WHICH COULD THEN BRING DOWN A NUCLEAR PLANT IN ANY AREA NOT NORMALLY AT RISK FOR EARTHQUAKES

There is a huge danger around fracking, because this practice causes earthquakes directly. Combine fracking and nuclear power plants, and it spells disaster. So far, fracking has only caused smaller earthquakes, but the odds are building  that fracking can and will trigger a larger earthquake eventually.

Many people believe that oil is neutral or even positive in terms of it's effect on the environment. LIST OF NUCLEAR PLANTS LOCATED IN TSUNAMI RISK ZONES

Nuclear power plants located in tsunami risk zones
Scientists have highlighted this disaster as a wake-up call, and one team of scientists has assessed 'potentially dangerous' areas that are home to completed nuclear plants or those under construction. By highlighting high-risk zones, they hope that further plans can be implemented to head off similar disasters.

The study is the first to look into the location of nuclear power plants and correlate them to areas at risk of tsunamis. 'We are dealing with the first vision of the global distribution of civil nuclear power plants situated on the coast and exposed to tsunamis,' explained José Manuel Rodríguez-Llanes, co-author of the study and researcher at the Centre for Research on the Epidemiology of Disasters (CRED) of the Catholic University of Leuven in Belgium. To inform their analysis, the authors used historical, archaeological, geological and instrumental records as a base for determining tsunami risk.

74 NUCLEAR REACTORS ARE AT RISK GLOBALLY OF MELT DOWN, MELT OUT AND/OR EXPLOSION, JUST LIKE FUKUSHIMA, DUE TO TSUNAMI HITTING THEM AND DESTROYING ALL SAFETY SYSTEMS, PLUS BACK UP SYSTEMS, ACCORDING TO CORDIS

According to the CORDIS report, 23 nuclear power plants with 74 reactors were identified in high-risk areas. The riskiest country was China, which has 27 reactors currently under construction, the largest number in the world. Of those 27, 17 are being built in areas considered dangerous for tsunamis.

TAIWAN; 2 nuclear facilities at risk of tsunamis

CHINA; 17 nuclear facilities at risk of tsunamis

JAPAN; 7 plants with 19 reactors at risk of tsunamis

SOUTH KOREA: 5 reactors at tsunami risk

USA:  multiple nuclear facilities and many nuclear reactors are at tsunami risk; itemized below

CLIMATE CENTRAL: "In a 2008 study with graduate student Natalie Kopytko, Perkins specifically assessed what risks sea level rise posed for nine reactors along the East and West Coasts.

Yet across the rest of the Turkey Point property, owned and operated by Florida Power Light Company (FPL), the combination of high winds and flood waters brought down the fire-safety system, compromised the security system, and interrupted communication to stations off the property.

While none of the most essential safety features were compromised during the storm, the damage was extensive enough that the facility was shut down for six months following the disaster. Hurricane Andrew exposed the vulnerability of coastal nuclear plants, particularly those in hurricane-prone regions of the country.

During its safety assessment for the new reactors’ applications at Turkey Point, FPL has modeled a worst-case scenario, based on what they estimate to be the highest tide conditions paired with the worst potential hurricane to strike the area — plus an additional 10 percent for an extra margin of safety. Based on these estimates, FPL predicts the maximum storm surge at the location of the new Turkey Point reactors would likely be no higher than 24.8 feet, which is 1.2 feet below the plant’s safety facilities.
http://www.climatecentral.org/news/sea-level-rise-brings-added-risks-to-coastal-nuclear-plants

As we can see from actual tsunamis, 24 feet above sea level is nothing for a tsunami, and it is interesting that FPL doesn't mention tsunamis at all. Any decent tsunami could easily take out any or all of the following American nuclear plants built within a couple of miles of the coast, including on a river and especially inside of any bays, which concentrate and magnify the height of any tsunami.

Nuclear Reactors in Earthquake Zones in the U.S. [Map]
Oddly, just two weeks before Japan was shaken by a 9.0 magnitude quake, 10 California lawmakers warned the U.S. Department of Energy that the state's two nuclear power plants are more susceptible to earthquakes than previously thought. Diablo Canyon was designed to withstand a 7.5-magnitude quake whereas San Onofre can only handle a 7.0. But in 2008, the USGS discovered that the Diablo (near San Luis Obispo) power plant was built less than a half mile from previously unknown earthquake fault and that San Diego's San Onofre plant is highly susceptible to both earthquakes and tsunamis. California is at risk for both.

16. Crystal River 3  also called the Crystal River Nuclear Plant, or simply CR-3, a shut down nuclear power plant located in Crystal River, Florida, but with full and active spent fuel pools.

Of course, as we now know from Fukushima, huge earthquakes can and do cause huge tsunamis, and the combination of both are lethal to nuclear plants, such as San Onofre and Diablo Canyon.

BRITTLE REACTOR VESSELS DUE TO EXCESS CARBON IN STEEL, FALSIFIED DOCUMENTS AND CORRUPTION ADD TO THE RISK POSED BY NUCLEAR PLANTS; FRANCE SHUTS DOWN 20 NUCLEAR PLANTS BECAUSE OF THIS

'Nuclear Industry in France in Crisis,' 20 Reactors Shut Down
As investigations into falsified documents and excess quantities of carbon in steel continue, more closures are expected. This is not yet a full-blown crisis for the nuclear industry, but it is putting serious strain on the finances of French nuclear giant EDF and causing electricity price rises across western Europe.
Shaun Burnie, nuclear specialist at Greenpeace Germany, said: "The nuclear industry in France is now in crisis as a result of the carbon test results, with 11 reactors supplied by Japanese steel ordered shut down and under investigation by the regulator."

"No such testing has been done in Japan … until actual testing is conducted, the NRA and more importantly the communities living near nuclear reactors, will not know what risks the nuclear plants pose," Burnie added.

"The NRA must instruct utilities in Japan to undertake testing as a matter of urgency." He said the priorities are the Sendai-2 and Ikata-3 reactors, the only plants operating.

SUMMARY

Nature always has the last say. Nature always wins in the end. Those who think they can over power, outsmart, out technology or beat Mother Nature are only fooling themselves and putting all of humanity at risk. Whatever is not in harmony with Nature and her cycles will eventually be destroyed and come to nothing. Nuclear power plants are fighting Nature in oh so many ways, and this technology is a total dead end, for so many reasons.

In the Aceh Province of Indonesia on the 26th of December 2004, the deadliest tsunami in history destroyed the coast and left the world in shock. Many thousands lost their lives because they were not prepared. Now scientists are spurring into action, racing to determine where and when the next big tsunami could strike and just how destructive it will be.

Because the mass media, courts, governments and regulators do not yet serve the public interest in terms of protecting seven future generations, they are guilty by association or through inaction around what has not been disclosed and/or covered up at Fukushima, and in other areas of life.

Because of this inaction and active cover up of basic facts around this mega disaster that involved many reactors all over Japan, Fukushima's lessons have not been learned by the global village. The odds of an even worse mega nuclear disaster have grown MUCH larger as a result of this denial, cover up and inaction, and continue to grow with each passing year.

WHAT YOU AND YOUR COMMUNITY CAN DO: TSUNAMI PREPAREDNESS

The ideal scenario is to shut down all nuclear plants globally, and then store the spent fuel in passively cooled underground facilities, where no power or human intervention is needed, out of range of tsunamis and floods, as well as ice age effects. Humans are not used to thinking ahead tens of thousands of years.

This video focuses on the west coast and provides advice about what to look for in terms of a tsunami.
