TRUMP FIRED HEAD OF FEMA, NOAA, NWS AND CUT FLOOD PREPARATION FUNDING PLUS COAST GUARD, KICKS 15,000 TRANSGENDER SOLDIERS OUT OF MILITARY, PARDONS A RACIST SHERIFF, BUT THEN MAKES HIMSELF OUT TO BE A HERO AT THE SAME TIME THAT A MAJOR  HURRICANE HITS

Trump is threatening to shut down America, in order to get his 1 - 20 BILLION dollar racist wall. This hurricane will eat up that 20 Billion and another 100 BILLION on top of it, IF the emergency funding is approved. Losses in the federal flood insurance plan are over 50 Billion and rising.  But Trump is so delusional and out of touch with reality, he cancelled common sense flood rules a few weeks before Hurricane Harvey, which were developed over the last 10 years in a bipartisan effort. He is still pushing the wall, racist books and pardoning other racists via a twitter storm, all in the middle of a catastrophic worst ever hurricane catastrophic flooding event, failing infrastructure, and an America that is falling further and further behind other nations in oh so many areas.. But the Clinton emails! And hey, buy some of my hats at $40 bucks a pop.

What Trump’s Trip to Texas Revealed | The Resistance with Keith Olbermann | GQ

Via Matt Sapero He fired the head sir FEMA, NOAA, NWS, cut preparation funding, slashed COAST GUARD, it goes on and on but keep making excuses for that epic FAILURE.

On Friday, while our nation focused on the devastating hurricane in Texas, Donald Trump moved forward with a directive barring enlistment of transgender individuals in the military and cutting off essential medical care for trans servicemembers. [1]

We cannot let this go unchallenged. That’s why we are asking Defense Secretary James Mattis to reject Trump’s hateful ban.

Make no mistake: Trump’s ban on transgender people serving in the military is discriminatory, unconstitutional, and downright immoral. It’s not based in fact and the American people overwhelmingly reject it. It’s based on bigotry and hate. Pure and simple.
Let’s fight this.

Thank you for working for peace,

THREE MAJOR DISASTERS IN ONE, AND ANOTHER ONE THAT IS EVEN WORSE, BUT NO ONE CARES, NO ONE IS PAYING ATTENTION, MASS MEDIA IGNORES WORST RISK

First, the Gulf Coast and Houston was hit by Category 4 #HurricaneHarvey with up to 125 mile per hour winds that destroyed a massive amount of infrastructure, homes and businesses.

Second, catastrophic flooding hit. The now tropical storm deluged the area with up to 51 inches of rain.

ABC; Aug 30, 2017 RESERVOIRS AND DAMS ABOVE HOUSTON ARE UNDER TREMENDOUS STRAIN
Third, as if that is not enough, multiple dams above Houston were in danger of catastrophic failure, so they have been forced to release huge amounts of water to prevent their over topping, because they are both earth dams, which cannot be allowed to over top the earthen part of the dam, at all, ever.

Dams Near Houston Overflowing From Massive Hurricane Rainfall
FOX NEWS: An already-swollen reservoir west of downtown Houston overtopped its spillway Tuesday, sending an "uncontrolled release" of Harvey's floodwaters into nearby neighborhoods that may be underwater for "weeks," as a separate levee breach south of the city prompted an urgent warning for residents to leave immediately. Floodwaters in the the Addicks Reservoir, located about 19 miles west of downtown, went over the top of the 108-foot spillway for the first time in history, threatening immediate surrounding subdivisions.
VIDEO: https://youtu.be/dVYw8X27Jy8

This may or may not be a picture of the actual earthen dam. No other video has shown either one of the dams over topping the earthern top, like this one does. Could this be a levee on a river nearby?

Addicks Dam Overtopping 8/29/17
VIDEO: https://youtu.be/3uJTQfMXVnQ

Other videos above this one, show this dam's water level several feet below the earth top on the same day, so this overtopping of the Addicks dam needs to be verified.

When the inflow is coming from huge inflows created by something like hurricane Harvey, the primary and secondary spillways get overwhelmed with the huge amount of inflow, so the earthen dam will overtop (as shown above). Once overtopping starts, the dam has a very large risk of failing completely AT ANY TIME, both due to over topping, plus the pressure of water on BOTH sides of dam softening and weakening the structure of the dam itself. Earth erodes FAST once the water starts cutting, undercutting or following cracks, holes or fissures inside the earth..

Earthen Model Dam Failure; Just saturation and pressure of water can cause an earthen dam failure, and this is WITHOUT OVERTOPPING. According to CNN LIVE reporter,  at 8PM CT on 8/29/17, 2 earthen dams are OVER TOPPING, with approximately 300,000 homes below the dams. These two dams are 100 feet tall in places, and have a HUGE amount of water behind them.
VIDEO: https://youtu.be/bWEWVw7TGk4

California almost lost the tallest earthern dam for the same reason illustrated above.. It overtopped via an emergency spillway that had never been used before, and things got really close. There was almost a catastrophic failure of the whole earthern dam.. A huge population lives downstream of Oroville Dam and that dam failure could have potentially meant Biblical flooding and wiping out of whole towns and cities, along with a huge loss of life.

Fourth, and worst of all, a nuclear plant nearby was being threatened with melt down due to flooding from the nearby Colorado river, which briefly went above flood stage. The power lines coming into the plant were also threatened, and they lost several of them during the hurricane. The 7,000 acre cooling pond was also at risk of failing due to the catastrophic rainfall. Instead of shutting down, the STP nuclear plant kept on operating at full 100 percent power. This nuclear plant has the equivalent of thousands of nuclear bombs that could go off if this nuclear plant floods and melts down/out, as Fukushima did already, or if it loses power, or cooling water. The Colorado river was predicted to rise to 50 feet, 28 feet higher than ever seen before in the history of this site and a nearby town.

The UC Davis software provided map shows the STP nuclear plant completely flooded out, isolated on an island, with all kinds of flooding happening on site as of Aug 29, 2017. The two articles published during or shortly after the flood showed a completely dry site, with no water anywhere in sight, making them pro nuclear propaganda. The above satellite image is deeply  worrying and alarming, because it shows just how close this nuclear plant came to being taken out by Hurricane Harvey. There is a reason why the mass media did not fly over and take pictures. There is a reason why the nuclear industry issued pro nuclear propaganda stories with FAKE pictures from 2009, showing only dry land and sunshine.

“The plant site is located 10 miles inland and at an elevation of 29 feet, well above the reach of even a Category 5 storm surge. The plant was designed with watertight buildings and doors to keep emergency electric power and cooling systems fully functional. All buildings housing safety equipment are flood-proof to an elevation of at least 41 feet above mean sea level.”

Just ONE risk to this nuclear plant was that the flooding water  would go above their planned 41 foot design basis 'flood proof' building, and that the 50 feet of flooding will erode and/or destroy the earthen dike around the nuclear plant, and/or get inside the 'flood proof' nuclear plant. The Calhoun nuclear plant avoided meltdown by the skin of their teeth, due to flooding. Multiple Fukushima reactors melted down and out due to a 'natural disaster' that they had 'planned for'. The nuclear industry always seems to 'guarantee' that nothing will ever go wrong, but then it does.

List Of All 70+ Global Nuclear Reactor Melt Downs, Plus Lists Of Hundreds Of Other Radiation Accidents, Spills, Attacks, Resulting in Numerous Nuclear Sacrifice Zones, Huge Increases In Background Radiation And Millions of Deaths

Haven't we heard things like this before? The unsinkable Titanic comes to mind; with plenty of newspapers weighing in on how this ship was definitely UNSINKABLE, GUARANTEED. Hubris comes before the fall. Arrogance and pride are fatal character flaws...

If the nuclear plant loses its cooling water, power supply, and/or if the switch yard floods and then shorts out, (which means the site loses all power coming and going out) a catastrophic melt down and out will result, with the release of thousands of nuclear bombs worth of radiation going where the winds blow it. The satellite photo above shows that the switch yard did flood, and maybe that is why the NRC reported the loss of two power lines going into the nuclear plant.

Where is the NRC? Where is the governor of Texas? Where are the emergency responder officials from FEMA, EPA, or other local city of Houston officials like the Mayor? Where is the mass media? Where is the LOCAL HOUSTON MEDIA? Why is there such a huge amount of cover up, denial, and propaganda going on? What are they so worried about?

HURRICANE HARVEY DISPLACED APPROXIMATELY  2 MILLION PEOPLE AND COST ESTIMATED AT 190 BILLION DOLLARS

Al Jazeera reported that Hurricane Harvey displaced 2 MILLION people, and that it is projected to cost 190 BILLION dollars, making it the most expensive hurricane in history. 80 percent of those homes and businesses flooded out have no flood insurance, plus the federal flood insurance is already 25 BILLION dollars in the hole.

How long can this kind of thing keep going on, before there is a general collapse of the whole economy? Houston has suffered through three 500 year storms in the last three years, and this is the fourth 500 to 1,000 year storm that has hit Houston in four years.

How can a city survive and prosper with this kind of destruction and chaos hitting it every year?'

HURRICANE HARVEY WAS A ONCE IN 25,000 YEAR STORM, BUT GLOBAL WARMING DENIALISTS DON'T CARE

HURRICANE HARVEY WAS A ONCE IN 25,000 YEAR STORM

MetStat is a company that provides “detailed precipitation analysis” and “weather frequency analysis” to industries like utility companies that need to know where to put their infrastructure so it won’t be damaged by extreme weather events. It has now released an analysis of Hurricane Harvey, which finds that the storm was a once in 25,000 year event. In some locations, it resulted in an almost unimaginable once in 500,000 year event, which translates into a 0.0002% chance of such an enormous deluge happening in any given year. Probabilities that extreme “are calculated by extrapolating the distribution curves for precipitation observed over the last century,” MetStat’s Shauna Bokn explains.

To do its analysis, MetStat used an approach based on “average recurrence intervals.” The analysis looks at how long we would have to wait for a Harvey-level deluge to occur again in a given area, based on historical rainfall records. Bokn notes that “although extremely rare, rainfall statistics of this nature are routinely computed by companies like MetStat to ensure the safe operation and design of large dams and nuclear power plants.”

According to Think Progress, MetStat’s post-storm analysis found “an interesting atmospheric setup was present that allowed it to stay alive for so long; bringing devastation over such a widespread area.” In particular, “the jet stream was located at very high latitudes, allowed for very light wind shear over Texas, and this aided in the lack of movement for Harvey.” Noted climatologist Michael Mann explained while Harvey was happening: “The kind of stalled weather pattern that is drenching Houston is precisely the sort of pattern we expect because of climate change.”

TRUMP KEEPS ON PLEDGING TO DONATE A MILLION BUCKS AFTER DISASTERS, BUT THEN DOES NOT DELIVER

Diane Todd Foley Trump pledged a million dollars after 9/11; he pledged a million after hurricane Sandy; he pledged a million after Harvey. To date he has not forked over a damn cent to any of these causes."

Thomas Smith When Trump pledges money he usually does not follow through with the payment and even when he does he pays with other peoples money. That is why the Trump foundation is in trouble. That and Trump using his "Charitable Foundation" as his personal checking account.

WHY ARE THERE NO MASS MEDIA PICTURES OF THIS NUCLEAR PLANT HAVING A HUGE SUCCESS IN THE MIDDLE OF A HISTORIC FLOOD OTHER THAN PRO NUCLEAR PROPAGANDA ARTICLES WITH PICTURES FROM 2009?

The Houston area alone has a population of approximately 6 MILLION people. 2 million out of those 6 million were displaced. Wouldn't it make sense to talk about all of the risks and dangers involved around this hurricane and how it may affect millions of people? Why are NONE of the major media mentioning the nuclear plant nearby and what risks it poses to the entire region?

Fukushima; Reactors And/Or Spent Fuel Pools, Equipment Pools (SFP's) In Buildings #5 And #6 Melted Down - Total of 7 Melt Down's, Melt Outs, Criticality Steam Explosions; TEPCO Admits It Lied, Covered Up

Just curious.... why is there no picture of this absolutely flood proof nuclear plant sailing through the flood with flying colors? The Bay river nearby is at 45 feet, right above flood stage. One would think that this is high interest local, regional, or national news material, but so far, it is just the sound of water gurgling by. As of Aug 31, 2017, there are ZERO PICTURES, and no mass media news.

This would be called censorship in any other country, but the US has such a free press and all that, censorship doesn't exist here, right?

WHY DID MASS MEDIA NOT BRING IN CLIMATE SCIENTISTS TO TALK ABOUT HOW AND WHY GLOBAL WARMING IS MAKING HURRICANES BIGGER, MORE FREQUENT AND WORSE?

Where are the climate scientists on the mass media? Instead of scientists, Trump supporters like Kellyanne Conway are interviewed. Anyone mentioning global warming is cut off or not aired at all.

NO MANDATORY HURRICANE EVACUATION FOR HURRICANE HARVEY, CATASTROPHIC FLOODING, OR NUCLEAR DISASTERS

NO HOUSTON EVACUATION “BECAUSE IT TAKES TOO LONG” – FEMA … EXPOSES US CIVIL DEFENSE FOR NUKE WAR IS A COMPLETE SHAM

FEMA adminstrator, Brock Long on KHOU live news broadcast at 6:30 a.m. (CDT) said people were told to shelter in place in Houston and no evacuation order given because the weather forecast didn’t indicate where, over a large area, the water was going to flow. “Pinpointing what watershed that rain is going to go into is dang near impossible . . . “, he said. They didn’t know until it was actually happening. He said to evacuate a city of over 2 million would take days.

What does 'shelter in place' without food, water or power, much less any other support services, really mean? When you try to do that for a region that has 6 MILLION people living in it, you very quickly overwhelm any emergency services and you lose the only way that people have of leaving a disaster affected area. In Houston, once the water rose, it was too late to get out, so emergency services were the only way to get people out, or provide them with emergency services..

Try calling 911 when millions of other people are trying to do the same thing.. You get a busy signal, or you get in a virtual line that may take 10 hours or more to get through while waiting on hold.. Meanwhile your cellphone loses it's charge because the power is out and there is no way to recharge it, so you end up with no way to call anyone after your cellphone is dead. If 911 tries to call you back, the phone is dead and they don't know where you are.  Landlines used to be stable and provided their own power. Landline phones did not need to be plugged in, so a person could stay on hold for days if required. Very few people own landlines anymore.

Cell phone towers also go down much more frequently than a landline based system does, so even if people have cellphones, they are useless and don't work. Bottom line, shelter in place policies are a recipe for huge mega disasters with many more people dying and suffering inside of their homes.

HURRICANE HARVEY TUTORIAL; THIS IS AN EXAMPLE OF HOW HUMAN CAUSED GLOBAL WARMING IS CAUSING NEGATIVE CLIMATE CHANGE CONSEQUENCES LIKE THIS STORM, THE 4th 500 YEAR STORM THAT HAS HIT HOUSTON IN JUST THE LAST 4 YEARS

The mass media could have given a climate scientist like Paul Beck or someone like him, a lot of air time during and after the hurricane. Instead of INFORMING and EDUCATING, mass media spent time on 'personal stories' that tugged at the heart strings, but did nothing to counter the ignorance and denial around global warming. The mass media seems to be all about triggering feel good emotions, not about logic, science and information.

Is America becoming an ANTI SCIENCE FASCIST NATION?

Hurricane Harvey is part of HUMAN CAUSED global warming climate change negative consequences. All over the planet, huge storms like this one are cycling up very quickly. Then the storm dumps a month or more worth of rain in one day, which then leads to flooding locally or regionally. There is little or no time to evacuate or prepare.

This kind of deluge being created and dumping 6 months to a years worth of rain in several days did not used to happen. Now it is a 'new normal'. The rainfall amounts below all happened in about 6 hours.

The Weather Service said it had to create new colors because of never seen before rainfall amounts per day. This is direct EVIDENCE of negative climate changes caused by humans releasing huge amounts of global warming gases. It is strange that no one seems to want to talk about it though in the mass media. The mass media seems to be avoiding any mention of climate change or global warming..

Hmmm, why bother planning long term, and doing preventative things? Just claim that these hurricane things cannot be predicted (as many so called experts are doing now), gut the government agencies like FEMA, EPA, NOAA, and others who study hurricanes plus deal with the storm damage, and call it good. Does that sound like common sense or logical thinking? Hurricanes, tornadoes and floods are all FAKE, just like climate scientists, global warming and climate change, right?

GLOBAL WARMING CONSEQUENCES ARE ACCELERATING, APPEARING IN THE FORM OF RECORD BREAKING STORMS AND HURRICANES LIKE HURRICANE HARVEY, BUT A LOT OF THE MEDIA WON'T MENTION THE WORDS GLOBAL WARMING OR CLIMATE CHANGE; WHY NOT?

There are many people who believe Hurricane Harvey was punishment from God, for gay marriages, as one example. Then there are those who are 'on the fence', thinking it may be possible that God is punishing people for 'sins', but that a hurricane has absolutely has nothing to do with global warming or climate change, like Ann Coulter. Others believe things like Trump does, that global warming and climate changes are a conspiracy theory, and fake news.

The corporate mass media avoids talking about the entire subject and especially  so around hurricanes and what causes them, or what makes them worse/bigger/stronger.

Trump follows Coulter's advice/belief system and relies on Fox news for all of his information. If we you want to see what Trump will do next, follow Ann on Twitter. She tweets, and then Trump does it. None of these extreme right wing believe that larger, stronger, more frequent hurricanes and floods have anything to do with global warming, because that is a CHINESE conspiracy theory.

WORLD METEOROLOGICAL ORGANIZATION ANNOUNCED HURRICANE HARVEY DEVASTATION IS LINKED TO GLOBAL WARMING; CAUSING CLIMATE CHANGES

Democracy Now! The World Meteorological Organization on Tuesday announced that Hurricane Harvey’s devastation is linked to climate change. All past U.S. rainfall records have been shattered, and the devastating storm is expected to bring even more rainfall to Louisiana and Texas in the coming days. And yet, the corporate networks have avoided linking the record-breaking storm to climate change. We examine storm coverage with Naomi Klein, best-selling author of several books, including "This Changes Everything: Capitalism vs. the Climate."

These new 'flash hurricanes' and huge 'flash storms' dropping a deluge of water did not happen in the past. People used to get warning of a hurricane developing way out in the ocean, and then watched it travel across the sea and slowly build strength plus get more intense. Now a hurricane like Harvey builds from nothing but a small tropical storm to a huge Category 4 hurricane in 53 hours, and then it hits land, all in the same time period. It is not possible to prepare for and/or evacuate from a Category 4 hurricane in just 2 days, especially not from Houston, which has an extended population of around 6 million people.

HURRICANE HARVEY IS THE FOURTH 500 YEAR OR LARGER STORM EVENT TO HIT HOUSTON IN FOUR YEARS

The Washington Post reports that Houston has seen 3 huge storms in the last 3 years, each of them considered a 500 year event. This storm is just the 4th 500 year storm according to the media, despite being much worse and larger than the last three 500 year events. This latest and biggest storm is even worse than the previous three  500 year storms that were not supposed to happen more than once in 500 years. Again, this hurricane is more EVIDENCE of human caused global warming. Storms and hurricanes are becoming bigger, more intense, and the 100 year and 500 year floods are happening much more frequently. AGR is calling Hurricane Harvey a 1,000 year storm.. but it is hard to use these definitions, because they are so vague and cannot really be quantified, as humanity has not even begun measuring storms scientifically until the last 100 years or so.

CLIMATE CHANGE, GLOBAL WARMING AND OTHER IMPORTANT ISSUES ARE IGNORED, DENIED, SUPPRESSED AND COVERED UP BY MASS MEDIA, IN ORDER TO KEEP VIEWERS AND READERS MISINFORMED, DISTRACTED, APATHETIC AND FATALISTIC

Al Jazeera's Shihab Rattansi talks climate change and gets cut off on MSNBC
The video above illustrates how climate change denial is done in the world of censored mass media.. Any reporter brave enough to 'break the rules' about not talking IN DEPTH about the cover up by huge fossil fuel companies around global warming, gets pushed aside for some peanut gallery personal story. Personal stories should be on the LOCAL news. National and international news should be about NATIONAL and INTERNATIONAL issues, plus in depth reporting on things like climate change and global warming. Instead, huge corporations have taken over the 'news', and their advertisers don't want to see anything negative about fossil fuels or nuclear, so there is no news on any channel about these and other important things..

If the reporter doesn't 'toe the corporate censorship line' when he gets back the microphone, they just cut him off. Odds are that this reporter will be sacked or never be heard from about this subject again. All it takes is some producer hearing this or some huge corporate CEO rep or lawyer calling in and demanding the feed be cut, and that is that. No more taboo words like climate change, global warming or the connection to huge oil companies will be heard, ever again.

http://www.agreenroadjournal.com/2014/02/cnn-questions-climate-change-promotes.html

Watch for MORE FREQUENT 500 to 1000 year floods happening on a much more frequent basis in the future as global warming induced negative climate changes accelerate and become more intense. All flood control systems need to be upgraded to 1000 year flood events, or risk being overwhelmed and losing things like dams and nuclear plants on a 'regular' basis. The mass media loves to claim that nuclear plants are 'immune' to natural disasters, but this is definitely not true. Natural disasters have brought down multiple nuclear plants, at Fukushima, and more like this will be happening in the near future. This 500 year storm got really, really close to causing the catastrophic loss of two dams and a nuclear plant.

Expect more of these kinds of 500 to 1,000 year storms happening potentially EVERY YEAR, and expect them to get even more intense, until even the global warming deniers will be forced to admit that; gee, maybe we were wrong..

TRUMP IS STUCK IN DELUSION AND DENIAL; CLAIMS THAT GLOBAL WARMING AND CLIMATE CHANGE DON'T EXIST; SO IGNORE ALL OF THE LARGER STORMS AND THE LARGER AND LARGER NEGATIVE CONSEQUENCES BECAUSE THOSE ARE FAKE TOO

Nature always bats last, and Nature always wins. What will it take for reality to be a part of the discussion, including global warming and climate change? Will it take a 2,000 year, 5,000 year storm to start the discussion? Or will humanity go extinct with no discussion about reality at all? Trump represents the deniers who don't want to face reality, along with the Republican party.

Fighting against Nature and denying global warming is a luxury humanity plus greedy corporations and their 1 percent 'leaders' have been playing with up to now, but the 'grace' period is now running out. The negative consequences are now accelerating, even if no one wants to admit this or talk about them, because they don't want to offend Trump, the leader of the Denialist cult, living in a Delusional virtual Racist Reality version of AmeriKKKa.

5 WAYS HUMANITY MADE HURRICANE HARVEY MUCH WORSE

The sea off the Texas coast is half a foot higher than it used to be, because of global heating. Hotter water expands to fill more space, and melting surface ice that used to be on the land mass of Antarctica and Greenland and is now in the oceans as extra water and caused the sea level to rise. (The level of the land can also be lowered by e.g. drilling for oil). When the sea level is higher, that allows higher storm surges, leading to extra flooding.

2. The increase in the surface temperature of the ocean over the mid-20th century by about 1 degree Fahrenheit increased the amount of moisture in the air above it by 3-5%. More moisture in the air means that when it rains, it really pours.

3. The water in the Gulf of Mexico is warmer than a few decades ago, and warm water feeds hurricanes the way anger feeds the Incredible Hulk. Harvey was significantly more intense as a storm because it developed over warmer water.

WHY ARE DAM OPERATORS RELEASING WATER FROM ADDICKS AND BARKER RESERVOIRS IN THE MIDDLE OF A FLOOD, THUS CAUSING EVEN MORE FLOODING AND DAMAGE IN HOUSTON AND DOWNSTREAM FROM THERE?

Dams that were built to control Houston flooding got overwhelmed and had to release water, just to survive and not collapse completely/catastrophically, all while Houston was already flooding. If and when an earth dam goes down, it means catastrophic loss of life downstream. The SECONDARY EMERGENCY spillways being used at TWO DAMS, are a LAST DITCH line of defense and are never supposed to be used. Houston was riding right on the edge of catastrophe the likes of which have never been seen before in the US..

Tacomagroove AUGUST 29, 2017 Downtown Houston gone if spillway fails. Dam at 106 of 108ft and now attempting emergency spillway operations.

From link:

More on emergency spillway:

Of course, there is a consequence to releasing water from dams during an already bad flooding event. The floods in and around Houston from Hurricane Harvey got worse due to the huge overwhelming amounts of rain coming down, which then forced the dams to release water in order not to fail completely. Bottom line, the flood control system got completely overwhelmed and almost failed completely, but they won't admit that.

A HURRICANE APPEARED RIGHT OFF THE COAST AND DEVELOPED INTO A CATEGORY 4 HURRICANE ALMOST OVERNIGHT, WHICH HAS NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE

For the first time in history, a category 4 hurricane developed right off of the coast of Texas and within 2 days hit land. Essentially, this hurricane appeared out of nowhere, gave no warning and then hit, while dumping catastrophic amounts of water. There was no time to evacuate 6 million people, which meant everyone was forced to 'shelter in place'. What happens when this type of catastrophe gets even worse, as global warming accelerates and global warming denialists keep on denying anything bad is happening?

This hurricane developed from tropical storm into a Category 4 Hurricane in just 54 hours. The storm was trapped and held stationary by high pressure which originates on the west coast. One year's worth of rain came down in about a week, totaling more than 50 inches.

This pictures shows the 'new normal'. Get used to this and worse, because this is what global warming consequences look and feel like. Bottom line, warmer water and warmer air hold more moisture, and that rain comes DOWN.. sadly.. What a tragedy.. What a loss... but the lessons will get harder and harder, plus more severe from here on in.

Remember the old saying; what goes up must come down.

FEDERAL FLOOD INSURANCE IS A FINANCIAL DISASTER AS PREMIUMS DO NOT COVER LOSSES, FEDERAL DISASTER FUNDS ARE LOSSES ON TOP OF THAT FOR THE 90 PERCENT OF BUILDING OWNERS WITH NO INSURANCE

HURRICANE HARVEY TESTS LIMITS OF FEDERAL FLOOD INSURANCE PROGRAM

NFIP is over $24 billion in debt, and most experts agree that this deficit has grown largely for two reasons. First, FEMA has been slow to update its maps – in the aftermath of Katrina, it had turned out its maps had not been updated in over 20 years. The Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) also claimed that out-of-date maps contributed to both the shock and damage across New York and New Jersey after Sandy pummeled the region.

Furthermore, NFIP has been a political football, as politicians from coastal states have been loath to permit premiums increases under their watch. Proposals to account for risks due to not only historic flood threats, but to also for climate change and sea level rise risks, have long been a non-starter on Capitol Hill.

Congress passed a law in 2012 that required FEMA and NFIP to charge market rates, and climate change became a factor in how these policies were priced. But homeowners pushed back hard, and Congress moved quickly to undo that law. Another rate increase was enacted in 2015 as Congress scrambled to find a way to hack away at NFIP’s deficit, but homeowners lashed out again, and the cycle has continued.

WHAT HAS CHANGED ABOUT HURRICANES HISTORICALLY?

1. Hurricanes are becoming more frequent on a historical basis. Starting with recorded hurricane history, there used to be several years without any hurricanes, but now there are no years where there are zero hurricanes. There were only a maximum of 1 or 2 hurricanes per year on the Atlantic coast before the industrial age and huge fossil fuel global warming emissions. Now there are commonly 5 or 6 hurricanes per year, plus many more huge storms that cause local or regional flooding, due to dropping 1 to 6 months worth of rain in a single day or 2 days.

What has changed due to global warming and climate changes is that hurricanes used to develop way out in the Atlantic ocean as tropical storms, and then gradually build up over several weeks, giving plenty of time for weather forecasters to warn populations and get people evacuated way ahead of time, in a gradual manner. Hurricanes would come in fast and leave fast, due to strong steering currents and strong jet streams.

What is different know is that a 'minor' tropical storm right off of the coast in the Gulf of Mexico grows into a hurricane from basically nothing at all in such a short period of time that warnings could not be issued or acted on by a region that has 6 million people living just in the county around the city of Houston. The jet streams have broken down, so a hurricane that is larger and bigger and wetter than ever can park itself right over a state and dump continuously for days.

Trying to evacuate 6 million people in 1 or 2 days is just not realistic nor possible, so the only option left is to 'shelter in place' and suffer.

Even 'minor' tropical storms now pack the same punch in terms of destructive HUGE rainfall amounts that they are the equivalent of what used to be hurricanes. 100 year storms are now happening multiple times per year in the US. 500 year storms are now happening every year just in the state of Texas, and 25,000 to 500,000 year storms are now popping up much more frequently on global basis including the USA.

List Of All Hurricanes In US East Atlantic Historically From 1853 To 2016, Broken Down By Year, Increased From .88 To 5.20 Per Year; List Of Category 5 Hurricanes On Atlantic Coast Shows Increase Of 20 Percent, Every 30 Years

The same dynamic is happening globally, as is happening on the Atlantic coast. In some areas the increase and severity of hurricanes is much worse, such as around the Philippines, due to higher ocean temperatures, which then generates more severe and larger quantities of hurricanes.

Harvey is unique in another way as well. According to Stephanie Zick, who is studying tropical cyclones at Virginia Tech University, Harvey is the only storm on record in the Gulf of Mexico to have ever intensified in the 12 hours prior to making landfall.
https://riseuptimes.org/2017/08/30/dahr-jamail-hurricane-harvey-shows-what-climate-disruption-amplified-flooding-can-do/

Hurricane Harvey may be the first in a number of categories, but watch and wait. If another hurricane does the same thing, that will be the new 'normal' and potentially it will get worse from there, as global warming accelerates. Mother Nature always bats last, and she always wins in the end. If humanity does not CHOOSE to live in balance with Nature, Nature will FORCE the balance to happen, via ever increasing destruction, violent storms and chaotic weather.

THE US HAS SPENT MORE THAN 1.2 TRILLION DOLLARS ON GLOBAL WARMING AND CLIMATE CHANGE CAUSED DAMAGE, WHICH IS MORE THAN ENOUGH MONEY TO HOUSE ALL OF THE MILLIONS OF HOMELESS PEOPLE IN AMERICA WITH FREE PERMANENT HOUSES AND GIVE EVERYONE FREE EDUCATION FOR LIFE

There is a HUGE cost for living in a state of global warming denial, as Trump and his administration plus Congress are. So far, America has spent enough money just on disaster relief to equal the amount that could have been spent to house all of the MILLIONS of homeless US citizens wandering the streets of what could be a great America.

#HURRICANEHARVEY ANOTHER WAKE UP CALL!
AUGUST 28, 2017 A GREEN ROAD DAILY NEWS

Scientists suspect that the storm has lasted longer over land and dumped more rain than it otherwise would have, thanks to the ability of a warmer atmosphere to contain more moisture. Studies published in the past few years have shown that extreme precipitation events are becoming more common and more extreme in many parts of the world as the air and oceans continues to warm, and that this trend is expected to continue.

With tropical storms and hurricanes, computer model simulations show that future storms are likely to be wetter, posing even greater inland flood challenges than we’re used to now. There are elements of Harvey that stand out, including the 16.07 inches of rain that fell in Houston on August 27, setting a record for the wettest day in that city’s history. The storm has dropped so much rain in southeast Texas that the National Weather Service had to add a new color to its maps.

Scientists are likely to conduct extreme event attribution studies on the heavy rainfall from Hurricane Harvey, Sobel said, and these are likely, though not guaranteed, to show a climate change-related increase in the odds for such extreme rainfall amounts.

Billion dollar loss events are increasing in frequency overall historically, as the above graph from NOAA and NCDC shows..

The U.S. has sustained 212 weather and climate disasters since 1980 where overall damages/costs reached or exceeded $1 billion (including CPI adjustment to 2017). The total cost of these 212 events exceeds $1.2 trillion.

NOAA REPORTS THAT SCIENTIFIC STUDIES PREDICT HURRICANES (AND STORMS) WILL BECOME MORE INTENSE, DROP MORE RAIN IN EVER INCREASING AMOUNTS IN THE FUTURE

NOAA; "A review of existing studies, including the ones cited above, lead us to conclude that it is likely that greenhouse warming will cause hurricanes in the coming century to be more intense globally and have higher rainfall rates than present-day hurricanes.

There is a direct link between larger and more severe storms and global warming caused by humans. As the earth atmosphere and water warms up, evaporation increases from the water. The hotter air can and does hold more water vapor due to the increased temperatures and the amount of water evaporating also increases as temperatures increase.

The direct evidence is there in the financial records. Huge billion dollar global warming related disasters are taking off and accelerating. Houston alone now has had four 500 year storms hit it in the last four years, including this year; this is not a coincidence.

Source/credit; NRDC

Draw a straight line across the tops of the HIGHEST peaks of storm damage in the graph above, and it is really easy to see how the financial damages are going up, up, up, and are now ACCELERATING. The evidence and data is overwhelming and shows global warming climate change consequences are not just increasing, but growing FASTER and FASTER.

Eventually, there will not be enough money to 'fix' things anymore. Whole cities may have to be abandoned as Nature fixes by force, what humans are choosing to ignore, deny and suppress and not address the root causes of.. There is no way to win by fighting Nature. Nature always bats last and she always wins in the end, no matter how deep the denial is. Nature does not care about global warming denialists or their conspiracy theories.

Civilizations have collapsed historically due to unsustainable practices. America is living in an unsustainable manner in so many ways, that it is almost inevitable that it will collapse eventually. If something is not sustainable, it is terminal. Unless America transforms itself radically, the collapse is inevitable. The collapse is just a matter of WHEN, not IF, unless huge changes are made very rapidly. But the odds of transformation happening are non existent with a President Trump in charge that is trying to force going backwards and devolution to happen.

45+ Negative Global Tipping Points Report
http://www.agreenroadjournal.com/2014/04/2014-list-of-45-global-tipping-points.html

DOES IT MAKE SENSE TO KEEP BUILDING IN FLOOD PLAINS AND TO KEEP BAILING OUT THE PEOPLE WHO KEEP ON GETTING FLOODED, OVER AND OVER AGAIN, AD NAUSEUM? WHY DO CITIES ALLOW DEVELOPERS TO BUILD IN FLOOD PLAINS IN THE FIRST PLACE?

The official policy of the US and Texas specifically seems to be to deny everyone else social welfare, such as disaster relief funding for Hurricane Sandy, welfare, food stamps, unemployment insurance, school lunches for poor kids, but then hurry up and get us free taxpayer money when Texas gets catastrophic flooding, in part due to greedy developers building in flood plains that they know will end up flooding the homes or buildings located there. At the same time, these same officials don't believe in global warming or climate change, so they support Trump with his denialist policies of promoting fossil fuels plus nuclear, while denying renewable energy any support at all.

Houston’s flooding shows what happens when you ignore science and let developers run rampant
Wetland loss is one of the many effects of lax rules. The construction of flood-prone buildings in flood plains is another one: The elderly residents of La Vita Bella, a nursing home in Dickinson, east of Houston, were up to their waists in water before they got rescued. The home is within the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) designated flood zone.

Yet another consequence is that too few people have flood insurance. Although federal rules require certain homeowners to carry it, those rules are based on outdated flood data. Only a little over a quarter of the homes in “high risk” areas in Harris County, where Houston sits, have flood insurance. The share is even lower, 15%, in many other areas that will also no doubt suffer water damage from Harvey.

“We’re going to spend tens of billions of dollars rebuilding Houston exactly like it is now, and then wait for the next one.” And that’s before Trump came into office and started removing layers of regulation. Just 10 days before Harvey struck, the president signed an executive order that rescinded federal flood protection standards put in place by his predecessor, Barack Obama. FEMA and the US Housing and Urban Development Department, the two federal agencies that will handle most of the huge pile of cash expected for the rebuilding of Houston, would have been forced to require any rebuilding to confirm to new, safer codes. Now, they won’t.

“What’s likely to happen is we’re going to spend tens of billions of dollars rebuilding Houston exactly like it is now, and then wait for the next one,” says Rob Moore, a senior policy analyst on water issues for the National Resources Defense Council.

Insanity is defined as digging a hole that is too deep to get out of, guaranteeing disaster and possibly death if one stays inside of it. But rather than quit digging, Trump is establishing a policy to dig the hole deeper and not quit digging, ever. This hole called global warming does not exist you see.. it is fake news.

Houston’s flooding shows what happens when you ignore science and let developers run rampant
Much of the destroyed wetlands were covered with pavement to accommodate the region’s explosive population growth. So these days, even a run-of-the-mill storm causes water to gush down the streets and can lead to flooding. “We generated a lot of runoff and until now we haven’t been able to keep up,” she said.

It won’t be long before remaining undeveloped places in the Houston area are swallowed up. Take a look at the Brays Bayou watershed, in southwestern Houston. The maps below show how the area lost nearly half of its wetlands, shown in purple, as development (the gray areas) expanded. The area has flooded for the past three years in a row.https://qz.com/1064364/hurricane-harvey-houstons-flooding-made-worse-by-unchecked-urban-development-and-wetland-destruction/

REPUBLICANS DON'T BELIEVE IN GOVERNMENT, LAWS, ZONING, GLOBAL WARMING, CLIMATE CHANGE, SOCIALISM OR HURRICANE RELIEF FROM TAXPAYER FUNDS, UNLESS AND UNTIL IT AFFECTS THEM PERSONALLY, OR IF IT BENEFITS HUGE GLOBALIST CORPORATIONS THAT PAY THEM TO BELIEVE IN CONSPIRACY THEORIES WHILE CORRUPTING DEMOCRACY

The cost of denying global warming and climate change, plus acting in a hostile manner to the 99 percent, have huge negative consequences. Hurricane Harvey is going to illustrate those consequences and bring them to the surface, because this hurricane is estimated to cost 190 BILLION dollars, and that is without the cost of increased gas prices, lost profits, lost productivity, lost exports, increased healthcare costs, increased days off work, loss of access to critical infrastructure, etc...

On the one hand, Republicans HATE government regulations and government bail outs, except for businesses, like the 2008 bailout of huge banks.. Every politician was ok with that. But when it comes to bailing out ordinary people, Republicans are totally against that, because then it is evil socialism. Republicans are also against any government regulations or laws, such as common sense flood control regulations, laws or zoning.

Republicans want to dismantle and get rid of government, because that is good for huge globalist corporations, but then they want all kinds of government help for corporations, via corporate welfare, corporate entitlements, while cutting those same things for ordinary people.

NRC IDENTIFIED NUCLEAR PLANTS SUCH AS STP PLANT AT RISK OF FAILURE DUE TO DAM FAILURES, AND VULNERABLE TO FLOODING FROM SUCH THINGS AS THE DELUGE OF RAIN COMING DOWN WITH HURRICANE HARVEY

Nuclear Worker: “Imminent flood coming” near nuke plant from Hurricane Harvey… “Potentially catastrophic”… Running out of food… Working tirelessly to manage problems… Area turned “upside down” — Nearby river forecast to rise 50 ft and overtop levees, “Major Flood Stage” (VIDEO)
Greg Harman Published on Sep 17, 2009 Lanny Sinkin may be the reason there have been no major problems at STP nuclear complex since it went online in the late '80s. It was Sinkin that got a U.S. NRC whistleblower to 60 Minutes, an event that brought construction to a halt at Bay City. Sinkin speaks with us about that effort, similarities to the current push to expand operations at STP, and the failure of CPS to offer detailed alternatives.

What happens if you try to call a nuclear plant in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey.. NO ANSWER, despite their 'assurances' that it is running at 100 percent, and that everything is completely normal. So why isn't anyone answering their phones down at the actual nuclear plant? Many people were called, but no one answered.

DID NRC LIE TO ME ABOUT TEXAS NUKE PLANT RISK ON FLOODING?

Why were there NO PUBLIC UPDATES on the levels of water inside of the cooling ponds during Hurricane Harvey, which dropped a RECORD 50 inches of water on the region? Where are the pictures of the site itself during and after the storm?

UPDATE: CALL BACK FROM NRC ON TEXAS NUKE POWER PLANT, CHECK IT OUT!

STNP IDENTIFIED AS BEING AT HEIGHTENED RISK OF FLOOD DAMAGE DUE TO UPSTREAM DAM FAILURES; BUT IF PLANT IS NOT ALREADY SHUT DOWN AND COOLED OFF, IT WILL NO LONGER BE POSSIBLE TO DO THIS ONCE  A DAM FAILS UPSTREAM

HillbillyHoundDog AUGUST 28, 2017  STNP "identified in the NRC's 2011 report as being at heightened risk of flood damage due to upstream dam failures."

Overconfidence? STPNOC, Friday: "… remains at full power operations with no threats to generation."

Hippie DogAUGUST 28, 2017 Update: STP Nuke Plant In plain english…

We know that the STNPPL (South Texas Nuclear Power Plant Lake) WILL have problems….

We also KNOW the smaller "loop pond" will be inundated with flood waters…

And the flow pipe exit and intake gates in the small pond will be under water…

EPA 3 OUT OF 4 RADIATION MONITORS NEAR THE NUCLEAR PLANT NOT WORKING DURING WORST OF HURRICANE HARVEY

MVB AUGUST 31, 2017  Of the four EPA radiation monitors "nearby", only San Antonio is still on, the other three have gone into data delay / data gap mode.

Those four:

https://www.epa.gov/radnet/radnet-air-data-san-antonio-tx

Why doesn't the STP nuclear plant have a ring of radiation monitors around it, available for viewing online, by the community 24 hours per day, with battery powered backup for each radiation monitor, in case the plant loses power, which is what happens during nuclear accidents?

What are they so afraid of?

Why all of this secrecy, and censorship of what is going on at the nuclear plant during and after Hurricane Harvey?

Why are there absolutely NO PICTURES in the mass media of what is going on around and inside of the nuclear plant during and after the hurricane?

NUCLEAR INDUSTRY SUFFERS FROM A SEVERE AND EMBEDDED FORM OF OVERCONFIDENCE, GREED, ARROGANCE, HUBRIS AND LACK OF ACCOUNTABILITY PLUS TRANSPARENCY; SECRECY IS THE HALLMARK OF FASCISM

HillbillyHoundDog AUGUST 28, 2017 Overconfidence has been nuclear's folly from the beginning.

From mining and lack of accountability for remediation, building, to waste management and the running of plants, so much greed and arrogance.

"There was no Fukushima disaster", "No one has died from radiation", "No threat to public health or the environment" and "Nuclear is green and safe" are just a few examples of the overconfidence…

Me thinks STNP was more concerned with their unprecedented power production running record and profits rather than providing energy or the unprecedented floods, choosing to keep the plant running in a water event they had never encountered. I challenge readers to post nuclear examples of this dangerous, expensive and reckless human behavior…

Here's one:

South Texas 1
South Texas 2

Reporting 100 percent 8-28-17"

jackassrig AUGUST 30, 2017  I have not been to the South Texas Nuclear Plant. According to the Wiki write up about STP, the plant is on the Colorado River. The Colorado River will reach historic highs in about a week. Our channel 13 weatherman said the historic flood of 1913 merged both the Colorado and Brazos River. The flood of 2017 is going to eclipse the 1913 flood. In other words the two rivers became one. The Brazos I would say is about 30 miles from the Colorado. He went on to say that this happened during this time there was no flood control. I would like to say in 2017 we do not have flood control. I would consult with Holland to find a solution to controlling water in Houston since our stupid politicians are too busy jetting from one place to the other for camera shots.

PlowboyGrownUp AUGUST 30, 2017 "According to the two articles and the STP spokesman himself, the nuclear reactor can withstand a 41 foot storm surge from the ocean – but being at 29 feet above sea level, that only allows for 12 feet of inland flooding.
(river gage chart)

The Colorado River at Bay City is forecast to surge 27 feet in the next two days!"

Hippie Dog AUGUST 30, 2017 Excerpt from the RadChick Facebook page…

"So from the above two articles and from the STP nuclear plant spokesman himself, the plant can withstand a 41 foot storm surge from the ocean, but being at 29 feet above sea level, that’s only 12 feet of inland flooding, what they describe as a mere 100-year flood along the Colorado River…
Let’s take a look at the river level gauge on the Colorado River at Bay City, about 10 miles upstream from the STP nuclear plant which is located 2 miles from the Colorado River-

The Colorado River at Bay City is forecast to surge 27 feet in the next two days.
And considering the river is currently 9 feet above what is forecasted at this time according to the graph, this is likely to surpass the record crest of the Colorado River in the next few days. That 100 year flood the plant spokesman talked about which happened in 1913, cresting at a level of 56.1 feet.
The highest crest of the Colorado River at Bay City since the STP nuclear plant began operating was 24.04 feet in 1991-

They designed a nuclear plant to withstand a 100 year flood on the Colorado River."

Well, what happens if a 500 or 1,000 year storm hits the nuclear plant? Then what?

Sound of silence... (     )

TOXIC SUPERFUND SITES IN AND AROUND HOUSTON; AVOID WALKING OR SPENDING TIME IN FLOODWATERS; IF YOU DO, WASH IT OFF AS SOON AS POSSIBLE AND EITHER GET RID OF CLOTHING OR WASH THEM

SIERRA CLUB: "The Gulf Coast region is one of the most heavily industrialized areas in the country. For many years I've been monitoring heavy industry like oil refineries, toxic waste disposal tanks, injection wells, and chemical plants. Some estimates place more than 10,000 potentially hazardous sites in the impact zone of Harvey.

Already people are reporting toxic smells, headaches and nausea across Houston -- I myself have experienced these symptoms. Pipelines are leaking, and already one gas spill has been reported.2

When Congress meets to discuss a disaster relief bill, we can't let them forget the toxic toll this heavy industry will have as part of our recovery. They must make sure they authorize funding to address the particular toxic hazards faced by communities in the path of the flooding.

WHAT YOU CAN DO; EVACUATE, GET TO HIGHER GROUND, UPWIND OF STP NUCLEAR PLANT, THEN CONTACT YOUR REPS AND NEWS MEDIA

#HURRICANEHARVEY – GET OUT NOW! EVACUATE! ~ RIVER WILL RISE TO 60 FEET

CNN is talking about how the major river draining the Houston area is projected to rise to SIXTY FEET, the height of a six story building. The river is now at only around 30 something feet, and neighborhoods are already flooding.

There are 68 rivers at flood stage. Dams are at or reaching capacity.

CNN reported that experts are saying the WORST IS YET TO COME.

This is not a 100 year flood, nor is it a 500 year flood.. One person mentioned this is a 1,000 year flood.

Better be safe than sorry.

EVACUATE!

GET TO HIGHER GROUND!"

Hippie Dog AUGUST 28, 2017 Let's help stop a potential nuclear catastrophe by contacting our representatives now and expressing our concerns over the continued operation of the already flooded STP nuclear plant located by the Colorado river in southern Texas!

This is a potential ticking time bomb that must be stopped now!!!!

Points of contention are…

The site is located by the Colorado river that will be more than 50 feet above it's banks over the next 2 days

The man made lake that supplies water to the plant is surrounded on all sides with a man made earthen dam

The rise in water level will be 28+ feet higher than ever in the history of the site

The currents from this flooding WILL (without doubt) erode and destabilize the earthen dam surrounding this large water reservoir (lake) and WILL overflow the holding ponds

It will take more than 30 hours to stop and cool these reactors below the point of possible meltdown

And refer to the disaster at fukushima due to flooding and dangers at the Ft Calhoun plant.

SATELLITE PHOTO OF STP NUCLEAR PLANT AFTER HURRICANE HARVEY, SHOWING FLOODED RIVERS

Source/credit; NASA

The dark splotch located to the left of the caption Lavaca River' are the cooling ponds for the STP plant. It is easy to see the brown colored flood waters in the rivers nearby.

The close up satellite photo below shows flooding all over the nuclear plant site, which is why they won't let any news media in, and they won't publish any pictures around this nuclear plant during or after the flood. No one can get in or out, which means that the risk went WAY UP, because if anything goes wrong, there is no way to get emergency responders such as fire fighters into the place. If an explosion happens, they are out of luck as no one is coming to help them.

It is easy to see how close this nuclear plant came to being lost. The 7000 acre and the smaller cooling ponds look like they are flooded and overflowing. Multiple buildings on the nuclear site look like they got flooded. The switch yard looks like it got flooded.

Flooding out a switch yard and shorting out the power can cause COMPLETE and TOTAL loss of power on site, which is a TERMINAL death blow for a nuclear plant. It does not really matter that the nuclear plant building is 'waterproof'.  Without power coming in, the spent fuel pools heat up, and boil off the water, and the decay heat from fuel rods in the nuclear reactor can get hot enough to melt down and out, as happened at Fukushima.

GLOBAL WARMING DENIALIST TRUMP REVERSED LIFE SAVING FLOOD RULES JUST DAYS BEFORE HURRICANE HARVEY; SIGN PETITION TO PUT THESE RULES THAT TOOK 8 YEARS OF BIPARTISAN EFFORT BACK IN PLACE

CREDO ACTION: "Yet just 10 days before Hurricane Harvey made landfall, Donald Trump signed an executive order to reverse potentially life-saving flood safety rules implemented by Pres. Obama.3 This destructive, irresponsible decision risks American lives when future disasters strike. The Trump regime must reverse this order – now.

Tell the Trump administration: Restore the Federal Flood Risk Management Standard now.

The Federal Flood Risk Management Standard requires federal agencies to take sea level rise and flood risks into account when funding new infrastructure or rebuilding after disasters.4 It is the first new U.S. flood protection rule in 40 years,5 and a former official with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) called it "the most significant action taken in a generation" to safeguard U.S. infrastructure.6

Since 1998, FEMA has spent nearly $50 billion on grants in response to federally declared flood disasters, most of which have gone to rebuild public infrastructure projects like bridges, schools, roads and hospitals.7 FEMA estimates that every dollar spent on mitigation saves $4 in recovery and rebuilding costs after disasters.8

Global warming has a huge price tag. Denial and suppression of the truth will not change what happens in the future, and it will only make the suffering and death rate worse, the longer it is played with. Denial is not a river in Egypt.

Remember, any news or citizen reports around global warming caused floods, catastrophic deluges and disasters are all 'fake news'. Don't believe them, and don't change anything, and keep watching Fox News, Breitbart plus other global warming denialist entertainment outlets.. Just keep on burning fossil fuels and promote nuclear plants, which emit huge amounts of 'fake' global warming gases. Ignore any/all climate scientists and call them 'quacks'. (sarcasm)

As all of the global warming denialist politicians and 'experts' keep on claiming; "You cannot predict this kind of thing". Ummm, yes, you can and scientists ARE predicting this kind of thing, plus worse to come. But ostriches are very good at putting their heads in holes, so keep on doing that for as long as it works, which won't be much longer now.

It is estimated that it will cost 190 BILLION dollars to fix and repair things after Hurricane Harvey. So what does the Texas Secretary of State do when offered help from Canada?

TEXAS REJECTS AID FROM CANADA, SAYS ‘SEND PRAYERS’ INSTEAD

CBC News reports Quebec’s Minister of International Relations Christine St-Pierre says she spoke with Texas Secretary of State Rolando Pablos earlier this week, “offering to send equipment and crews to help restore power and to provide blankets, beds, pillows and hygienic products.”

However, Pablos rejected the generous offer, and instead requested “prayers from the people of Quebec.”

Don't sit this one out.

Be the change and support what you want to see more, while doing the opposite for what you no longer want, like fossil fuels, nuclear, chemicals, global warming deniers, etc....

MAYBE IT IS TIME FOR LAWSUITS?

WILL HURRICANE HARVEY LAUNCH A NEW KIND OF CLIMATE LAWSUIT? SCIENTISTS CAN NOW LINK “ACTS OF GOD” TO CLIMATE CHANGE. THAT COULD GIVE VICTIMS THE POWER TO HOLD SOMEONE ACCOUNTABLE, SAY LAWYERS.

Courts have already used science to influence climate policies around the world. For example, in 2007, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that the Environmental Protection Agency has the authority to regulate greenhouse gas emissions as a form of air pollution, based on evidence that such emissions were changing Earth’s climate. In 2015, a court in the Netherlands ruled that the Dutch government must adopt stricter goals to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions, and a Pakistani farmer successfully sued his government for failing to implement its own climate policy framework, leading to the creation of a new court-ordered climate change commission in Pakistan. Other significant cases are still in progress, including one by a group of American youths who are suing the U.S. government on the grounds that U.S. climate policies violate their rights to life, liberty and property.

Climate science is increasingly making its way into lower profile cases as well, according to an analysis published last week in the journal Science. The researchers looked at more than 800 U.S. cases involving climate change or coal-fired power plants between 1990 and 2016, and found a dramatic rise in both the number of climate cases and the proportion that relied on scientific evidence, according to first author Sabrina McCormick, a sociologist at George Washington University in Washington. McCormick and her co-authors reported no conflicts of interest with respect to the new research.
