WORKER PAY AT FUKUSHIMA WAS REDUCED, ALONG WITH BENEFITS OFFERED


2013 - NHK has reported extensively about how worker pay at Fukushima is reducing. TEPCO used to pay for the hotel and living costs, but no longer does that.

There are 28 firms that subcontract for decommissioning work. The amount of work is declining. The competitive bidding is being used to reduce prices overall. This makes it harder to attract and keep workers. Pay has declined about 30% since the beginning of this year. It is becoming harder and harder to attract workers who are willing to face high radiation, poor working conditions and poor pay. 

One firm that subcontracts for Fukushima has not been able to find a single worker since the accident, and they handle instrumentation for nuclear power plants. 

More than 20,000 workers have spent time at Fukushima up to November 2012. It takes about 3 months to reach the safety limit for radiation, which means the worker has to leave. So every 3 months, 100% of all workers should be turning over, if they follow safety protocols. 

TEPCO said that it has enough workers, but NHK found out that the opposite was actually true. The number of registered workers required is 11,000 per year to decommission the plant complex. 

The amount of work to be done at the plant is increasing, not decreasing. Up to today, a total of 900 large steel water tanks have been set up on the grounds of the plant to store highly radioactive concentrated water. 

Workers must build, fill and maintain these tanks in a leak free condition. Multiply 900 tanks times 20, and the total required over 40 years will be 18,000. Experts say it may take 100 years to handle this crisis. Multiply 18,000 tanks x 3 and one would need 58,000 tanks on site, a sheer impossibility. They are already running out of room to put 'temporary' metal storage tanks. 

Are these temporary metal above ground water tanks earthquake proof, terrorist resistant and how long will they last? What is the LONG TERM plan to handle all of this radiation being stored temporarily? What happens when these metal tanks start leaking due to rust, even if there is no earthquake for 40 years?

Filtering equipment must be set up and operated. Miles of temporary pipes, pumps, insulation and fittings must be installed and maintained or fixed when they leak. Last winter, this Rube Golberg system of plastic pipes sprung up to 60 leaks at a time. No one knows how much of this highly radioactive water 'leaked' into the ocean. 

Basement water containing highly radioactive water must be pumped out on a constant basis, as more underground water leaks into the basements constantly through cracks and fissures.

STRATEGY AT FUKUSHIMA SEEMS TO BE TO DO AS LITTLE AS POSSIBLE


The strategy at Fukushima seems to be to do as little as possible, with as few workers as possible, while covering up the real problems, and not asking for any help. By comparison, when just 1 reactor at Chernobyl melted down, over 1 million workers were employed to try and handle that crisis and prevent 1 corium from hitting groundwater.

In Japan, despite Fukushima being 10 times worse and having 3 nuclear reactors melt down and through, (with 3 ACTIVE coriums now going down into the ground) only 6,000 people are employed to try and 'handle' this, by minimizing what is going on. This disaster is still ongoing, despite claims by TEPCO that Fukushima is in 'cold shutdown'.

TEPCO SHOWS 6,000 OR MORE WORKERS BEING PAID, BUT ON SITE CAMERAS SHOW NO ONE MOVING AROUND AT ALL OUTSIDE; WHERE ARE ALL OF THOSE WORKERS?


TEPCO says that it needs 3,000 workers per day to do everything that needs to be done to 'decommission' the plant. It has also reported that it needed 18,000 workers per year total. TEPCO claims that it has secured 24,000 workers, making it seem like it has a waiting list of people WANTING to work at Fukushima, but they cannot work at this paradise, because they have plenty of people already. They seem to possibly be putting out the PR that they are turning workers away, and that this is a very desirable place to work.

However, when one looks deeper into this number, TEPCO is using the total number of workers who have been at the plant since the human caused disaster happened, not the number of people wanting to work there TODAY. Just about like everything else this company reports, the opposite of what they report is actually the reality. 

Over 16,000 of those that TEPCO claimed as active workers have quit and taken their names off of the 'official' worker registry list. These 16,000 workers are no longer available to work at the plant. 

Taking 24,000 and subtracting 16,000, one ends up with only 6,000 workers total available. This 6,000 worker supply number is only a two month labor supply, if they truly do rotate workers in a safe manner. Why are they having such a hard time recruiting workers? Credible reports say that they have not recruited a single worker lately. 

If TEPCO is not aware of how many workers they actually have, what are the odds that they will continue to have enough workers for the next 40 - 100 years, which they admit is how long it will take (at a minimum) to 'decommission' the toxic waste dump that is now the Fukushima complex of buildings, spent fuel pools and reactors. Some experts say it will take at least 100 years or longer, assuming everything goes right, but that is still not dealing with the melted coriums, which went underground.

TEPCO WANTS TO RESTART ALL NUCLEAR REACTORS BUT HAS NO INSURANCE TO COVER THE RISK


No one is talking about this subject, because multiple melted out coriums are too terrible to even consider the implications and consequences of. Here is a little dive into this side of things, for those interested...

Considering that Japan has sixty nuclear power plants, all of which have to be decommissioned, where is all of the labor required to do this going to come from, if each one of them takes 40 years to decommission?

Finally, where is the money going to come from? Who is going to check workers health after they leave the plant due to maximum radiation doses received? Who is going to pay for the health costs for workers who get sick or die of radiation caused diseases or cancers later on? So far, these questions have not been answered. Who is going to pay to keep all of these nuclear plants open and in idle mode, or close them permanently, which means huge decommissioning costs for each one?

The two possible ways to raise money is to raise the cost of electric power supplied to consumers, and prevent them from switching to cheaper renewable sources of energy, through a monopoly control that most nuclear powered utilities have in place these days. 

The utilities have already raised the price of electricity in Japan to cover some of the costs of this disaster. But this radical increase in electricity cost is still NOT enough to pay for the cleanup and 'decommissioning'. Eventually, the taxpayers will have to pony up more and more and pay for everything, as they do for every nuclear disaster.

These monopolies consistently seem to push their risk and costs of disasters that they cause off onto taxpayers, but they manage to keep all of the profits and bonuses, plus golden parachutes. Somehow, the 1% that keep pushing these disasters in the making on the 99% almost never seem to be brought to justice for anything they do wrong either.

How much nuclear fuel was tossed out into air, water, and ground at Fukushima. One gram is enough to contaminate a whole nation. Some nuclear experts have shown that 3 reactors with a total of 200 to 300 TONS was melted out, gassed off or is traveling around the world in form of hot particles.

NHK looked at the overall view from above and projected out long term. But let's look at what is actually happening inside the plant, contrary to what the company and government say...

This mother in the video above is saying that a worker is at the plant, working there despite passing 'bloody urine'. She is claiming that many other workers are in a similar situation and poor health condition. To get to this point of passing bloody urine, a worker would have to continue working PAST the point of radiation safety, established by the company and government. So how would this happen? How would workers be dying on site and passing bloody urine? Maybe the following is a clue.....

RADIOACTIVE SMOKE AND STEAM COMING OUT OF GROUND AT FUKUSHIMA

There are HUGE cracks in the ground all over the plant, which workers can fall into and die. (NHK does not mention the three coriums that are underground, spewing radioactive steam and smoke out of a few of these huge cracks in the ground).

WORKERS GET ALMOST NO SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS AROUND RADIATION, NO ONE KNOWS ANYTHING ABOUT RADIATION DANGERS


Workers like the one above say it is impossible to maintain safety standards. Workers say they got 30 minutes of safety instruction, before going to work. No one knows anything about radiation. Masks are taken off to smoke, and to talk with each other. This means that radioactive particles are inhaled. Only one inhaled particle of plutonium can cause lung or other cancer. 

Many workers ditch their personal radiation monitors, because they are so desperate for money, that they want to work as long as possible, even if it means death in five years from cancer. Many of the workers are this desperate, because there is no other work around this area, due to the mass exodus of jobs from this area, due to the Fukushima disaster. Most families, jobs and farms are gone, thus there is no work and no economic activity, all due to the nuclear accident. 

Because they are so desperate for work, when workers go into dangerous areas, they leave their radiation monitors behind, so that they can work longer than they normally would be allowed to. The company and subcontractor both turn a blind eye, because they face problems getting workers to even come out to the most dangerous place to work IN THE WORLD. 

Other stories have come out about how dosimeters are covered with lead shields, or put in places where the dosage measured will be less.

RADIOACTIVE WATER LEAKS ARE COMMON PLACE AT FUKUSHIMA


There are radioactive water leaks all over the plant. Radioactive water leaks happen from pipes, fittings, etc. Leaks are often understated or ignored. When leaks happen, they are cleaned up by workers, who are exposed to high radiation in the process.

One worker said that those working at Fukushima are committing suicide. These workers are trying to keep their total dose under a certain dose, but there is almost no protection against radiation with the equipment that they are given.

DOSIMETERS MAXING OUT AND READING ERROR DUE TO GOING OVER THE LIMIT OF DETECTION AMOUNT


Workers interviewed by a German journalist in the video below told about how radioactive hot spots exist all over the plant site that cause the dosimeters to read ERROR, which means that they stop working becuase the radiation is too high to measure. The radiation has to be higher than 10 Sieverts to make the dosimeter cause an ERROR reading like this. An expert in the video reports that 7-8 Sieverts is an absolutely FATAL dose. 

No one tells the workers where these hot radiation spot areas are, and none of these areas are taped off or signs put up to warn workers where they are.

ALL FUKUSHIMA WORKERS ARE FORCED TO  SIGN A SECRECY AGREEMENT; WHY?

To get a 'danger bonus' pay award that slight increases their pay, workers all sign a secrecy agreement, promising to never talk about the work they do, to ANYONE. Why is this necessary, if there is nothing to hide and nothing bad happening there? 

In the following article, it explains that the World Health Organization (WHO) found that close to 200 Fukushima workers had high radiation doses in their thyroids, with two workers testing over 10 Sieverts of radiation INTERNALLY. A 10 Sievert dose of radiation is FATAL. Did they test any other workers? How did they test for this radiation? Did they test ONLY the thyroids, or did they test the whole body burden of radiation contamination? It does not make sense that only the thyroids get high or fatal doses of radiation, but nothing else in the body was touched or affected negatively. That is not how radiation works. 

What is the reason for this extreme secrecy, where workers cannot even show their faces or be interviewed legally at all? This level of secrecy is normally only for top secret military installations or a CIA kind of operations, where people are being assassinated or governments are being overthrown.

Bottom line, for Chernobyl the IAEA (which is nothing more than a glorified marketing arm of the nuclear industry) said that 350,000 workers got an 'average' of 100 millisieverts of radiation total. This is a wonderful way to hide the truth. Where are the dosimeters that they used to measure this dosage? What kind of dosimeters were used? Did they measure INTERNAL radiation and total body burden or just dosimeter readings, which do not include internal radiation coming in with food, air and water. 

This 'average' radiation figure included EVERYONE involved in the cleanup. If you count enough (off site) workers, you can cut radiation dosages by 50% easily. Shield dosimeters behind sheets of lead, and you can cut dosages by 90% or more. (Most cleanup workers at Chernobyl did this.) Use computer models that 'simulate' dosages instead of using actual real life Geiger Counters, and you can cut that total dosage by another 90% through fancy algorithms and minimized radiation data, which is consistently the way that the nuclear industry plays this game. 

The pro nuclear apologists who always minimize and deny radiation damages almost always use 'computer models', rather than actual radiation meter readings, or internal radiation measurements. 

Dead workers a problem? Just transport them away from the accident and get a nuclear industry friendly doc to sign a death certificate that claims it had nothing to do with radiation. Presto; there was no death from radiation contamination, despite the fact that the worker was buried in a lead lined casket. Thus the industry can proudly proclaim to all the world, "SEE - no deaths due to radiation!" All workers on site died from 'pre-existing conditions', even if they had no health condition going into this or that accident. 

Workers getting cancer and/or dying from multiple causes? Get them off site, fire them, or lay them off.. Now they are not recorded as casualties, and deserve no compensation either. No follow up health studies, no follow up health support, subject closed. No one was harmed. Presto, the nuclear industry washed it's hands of all harm, without lifting a finger. 

Almost all low level high radiation exposed workers are employed by subcontractors where longer term health record keeping is commonly shoddy, incomplete, or non existent. 

No one cares if a few thousand homeless or poor people get cancer later and die. Almost no one tracks the health of radiation cleanup workers once they leave the 'hot' cleanup site, for ANY reason.

JAPAN IS FAILING TO FOLLOW UP WITH EX WORKERS, HEALTH RECORDS AND RADIATION DOSE RECORDS LOST


Fox News did a report recently where they found that Japan is failing to do health checks on workers, and especially on ex-workers. If no health records are kept, it is impossible to prove harm due to radiation damage, of course. 

The Yakuzi (Japanese Mafia) typically hire the homeless and the desperate off the street, because they have no means to complain later or to raise a fuss because they have ZERO connections to the world. A former TEPCO executive has reported that the company has always known that they were working with the mafia when it supplied workers to them. 


FUKUSHIMA WORKERS ILLEGALLY CONTRACTED


According to a recent TEPCO survey, 50% of Fukushima workers may be illegally contracted; “according to the survey, 47.9 pct of such workers said that the companies directing them on-site at Fukushima Daiichi were different from those that paid their wages. These findings may be indications that subcontracting companies may be disguising subcontracts in violation of the employment security law....36% of such workers had not been given written or verbal explanations about their employment terms although the labor standard law requires employers to issue documents setting out employment terms…”

NUCLEAR INDUSTRY BUILT ON DECEPTION AND FRAUD


But the deceptions do not end at the workers cleaning up at Fukushima, Chernobyl or other nuclear disaster sites. The whole industry is built on lies, deceptions and fraud. They even have a playbook that they use to train their PR people. They train them in 30 ways to lie to the public and mass media, in addition to schools, colleges and politicians, in order to get their money and keep their power.

One of the most dangerous lies of all is that radiation is not dangerous. For example, the chief medical doctor for all hospitals and medical centers and who is in charge of radiation reporting and health measurement for the nuclear industry in Japan, reports that people can safely be exposed in towns around the ruined plant to 100 micro Sieverts per HOUR, as long as they keep smiling and do not worry. If they keep smiling, the radiation will not hurt them.

Fukushima prefecture health adviser (Shunichi Yamashita, MD, PhD. Dean. Nagasaki University Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences): Those who smile will have no radiation damage, only those who make constant worry. Less than 100 MICROsieverts per HOUR is no danger to health, or 876 millisievert per year is OK. — over double Germany’s 400 millisievert LIFETIME exposure limit for nuclear industry workers.

The medical industry and medical professionals globally seem to be intent on selling the whole world on the safety of nuclear power. Medical experts in Japan are telling parents that close to 1,000 millisieverts PER YEAR of radiation is 'safe', and that kids can play in these highly radioactive contaminated areas, without any risk or harm. 

The only problem with this pro nuclear apologist claim is that in a 'normal' situation such as here in the USA, nuclear power plant workers are allowed a MUCH HIGHER DOSE of radiation compared to civilians. Nuclear industry workers are only allowed a maximum dose of 400 millisieverts for a WHOLE LIFETIME. 

What the chief medical doctor in Japan is suggesting, is that civilians are safe if they get this 400 millisieverts radiation dose every six months, and over 800 millisieverts EACH YEAR. This makes absolutely no sense, but in the world of the pro nuclear apologists, where all doses of radiation is safe and good for you, as long as you keep smiling, it makes total sense. 

Isn't what the medical profession seems to be doing is to cover up the dangers of radiation in the same way as medical experiments being done on people without permission?

In the case of Fukushima, where the government and nuclear industry are saying everything is now back to 'normal' and all is 'safe', they are experimenting on millions of people, and all of the workers who come to Fukushima to labor in the most dangerous, most toxic, most radiation contaminated place on the planet. And this is not the first time radiation experiments have been done on people without their permission.... This is just the TIP of a very huge iceberg.

The Japanese government claims that 20 msv per year is 'safe' for kids, a fetus, pregnant moms and the elderly. This is the same maximum dose allowed for healthy adult male nuclear power plant workers in the US. Any increase in ionizing radiation exposure increasing diseases and cancers risks. In the US, only 1 msv is the maximum dose allowed for civilians. With no debate, discussion or weigh in by international experts, the amount of deadly radiation allowed for civilians in Japan has been multiplied by orders of magnitude.

Bottom line, the whole Fukushima crisis is not at an end. It is only beginning, and is in some ways getting worse. Most of the worst parts of this accident have been covered up. Workers at Fukushima may very well be viewed as sacrificial lambs worshipping at the alter of nuclear power, to be sacrificed in much the same way as people had their hearts cut out on ancient temple grounds, in order to appease the Gods.

To claim that Fukushima is in 'cold shutdown' is criminal. To say that they are 'decommissioning' it is fraudulent, because there are active coriums still burning out of control underground. To get workers in there that are desperate and starving, willing to commit suicide, and then swear them to secrecy, is shocking.
