Furthermore, TEPCO does not report worker deaths that occur outside of the workplace even though the death is a direct result of excessive radiation exposure at the workplace. For example, if a worker with radiation sickness becomes too ill to go to work, they’ll obviously die at home and therefore not be reported as a work-related death. As a result, pro-nuke advocates claim Fukushima proves how safe nuclear power is, even when it goes haywire, because there are so few, if any, deaths, as to be inconsequential. That’s a boldfaced lie that is discussed in the sequel: Fukushima Darkness – Part 2.

Indeed, Japan is a totalitarian corporate state where corporate interests are protected from liability by layers of subcontractors and by vested interests of powerful political bodies and extremely harsh state secrecy laws. As such, it is believed that nuclear safety and health issues, including deaths, are underreported and likely not reported at all in most cases. Therefore, the worldview of nuclear power, as represented in Japan at Fukushima Daiichi, is horribly distorted in favor of nuclear power advocacy.

THE RISKIEST MOST LIFE THREATENING JOBS ARE FILLED BY THOSE WHO ARE MENTALLY ILL OR HOMELESS, WHO HAVE NO IDEA OF WHAT THEY ARE GETTING INTO, AND THEN GET NO PROTECTION, NO TRACKING, NO HEALTHCARE


FUKUSHIMA DARKNESS
That’s how TEPCO gets workers to work in radiation-sensitive high risks jobs. Along the way, subcontractors rake off most of the money allocated for workers, resulting in a subhuman lifestyle for the riskiest most life-threatening jobs in Japan, maybe the riskiest most life-threatening in the world.
Japan has a long history of assembling and recruiting unskilled labor pools at cheap rates, which is typical of nearly all large-scale modern industrial projects. Labor is simply one more commodity to be used and discarded. Tokyo Electric Power Company (“TEPCO”) of Fukushima Daiichi fame adheres to those long-standing feudalistic employment practices. They hire workers via layers of subcontractors in order to avoid liabilities, i.e. accidents, health insurance, safety standards, by penetrating into the bottom social layers that have no voice in society.

As such, TEPCO is not legally obligated to report industrial accidents when workers are hired through complex webs or networks of subcontractors; there are approximately 733 subcontractors for TEPCO. Here’s the process: TEPCO employs a subcontractor “shita-uke,” which in turn employs another subcontractor “mago-uke” that relies upon labor brokers “tehaishilninpu-dashi.” At the end of the day, who’s responsible for the health and safety of workers? Who’s responsible for reporting cases of radiation sickness and/or death caused by radiation exposure?

Based upon anecdotal evidence from reliable sources in Japan, there is good reason to believe TEPCO, as well as the Japanese government, suppress public knowledge of worker radiation sickness and death, as well as the civilian population of Fukushima. Thereby, essentially hoodwinking worldwide public opinion, for example, pro-nuke enthusiasts/advocates point to the safety of nuclear power generation because of so few reported deaths in Japan. But, then again, who’s responsible for reporting worker deaths? Answer: Other than an occasional token death report by official sources, nobody!

Many work [...] cleaning up radioactive hotspots [...] Seiji Sasa, 67 [recruits] homeless men at the Sendai train station to work in the nuclear cleanup. [...] homeless men ended up in debt after fees for food and housing were deducted, police say. [...] a shelter funded by the city [...] sent other homeless men to work for him [...] 55-year-old homeless [...] worker’s paystub, reviewed by Reuters, showed charges for food, accommodation and laundry were docked from his monthly pay equivalent to about $1,500, leaving him with $10 [...] The problem of workers running themselves into debt is widespread."

Kenichi Sayama, general manager at subcontractor Fujisai: “If you don’t get involved (with gangs), you’re not going to get enough workers [...] The construction industry is 90 percent run by gangs.”

Yasuhiro Aoki, Baptist pastor and homeless advocate: “Many homeless people are just put into dormitories, and the fees for lodging and food are automatically docked from their wages [...] Then at the end of the month, they’re left with no pay at all.”

Shizuya Nishiyama, 57 years old: He now sleeps on a cardboard box in Sendai Station [...] [For decontamination work, an employer] offered him $90 a day [...] he was made to pay as much as $50 a day for food and lodging. He also was not paid on the days he was unable to work [but] would still be charged for room and board. He decided he was better off living on the street than going into debt. “We’re an easy target for recruiters [...] if we haven’t eaten, they offer to find us a job.”

Mr. Anand Grover, Esq., United Nations Special Rapporteur, published Oct. 24, 2013: (at 15:30 in) “These workers told me, ‘Do you know we are actually living in a shanty town?’ I can show you the photographs — literally on the pavement, in the non-used pavement between the railway station there were plastic huts where people were living, in Japan, in Tokyo — not Bombay. It actually astounded me that these things were happening. Then they told me that people come take them, give them ‘X’ amount of money [...] They’re ready to go into the fire and die. Other people are not ready to do it.”

A former Fukushima worker said that they were given no insurance for health risks, no radiation meters even. At first they were promised a lot of money, even offered a long-term contract but they were kicked out when they received a large radiation doze. They could have exposed themselves to large doses without even knowing it.

According to government data, there are 25 percent more openings for jobs at Fukushima than applicants. These gaps are often filled by the homeless and the desperately unemployed. Many of the workers were brought into Fukushima by Japan's organized crime syndicates. It may take another 40 years to completely liquidate the aftermath of the disaster, the lives of millions could be affected.

"From next year, we would finally be able to close in on the nearly 600 burnt fuel rods," he noted. But unlike in reactor No 4, the clean-up must be undertaken remotely as the radiation is so strong that people can only stay there for a few minutes. As a result, the construction of the lifting device has already been delayed by several years. 

Unclear conditions

The situation at the reactors raises doubts about the optimism shared by Japanese officials with regard to the orderly decommissioning of the plant. At the next stop, Okamura shows the control center of the underground ice wall that was built to prevent groundwater from leaking into the reactor basements and mixing with radioactive coolant water.

Since its construction, it has managed to reduce the amount of groundwater flowing into the reactor basements. But five sections of the wall have had to be kept open to prevent water inside the reactor basements from rising and flowing out too rapidly.

Even Shunji Uchida, the Fukushima Daiichi plant manager, couldn't hide his skepticism from the visiting journalists. "Robots and cameras have already provided us with valuable pictures," says Uchida, adding: "But it is still unclear what is really going on inside."

Burnt fuel rods? You cannot burn fuel rods without melting them down and out. Fuel rods don't burn and then stay completely intact, ready for removal. In the last sentence, they admit that since 2011, they still have no idea where the melted out fuel is from multiple nuclear reactors, or what to do about it.

SUMMARY; THINGS ARE GOING FROM VERY BAD TO MUCH WORSE IN JAPAN, BUT SO FAR, THE MASS MEDIA HAS MANAGED THE PR SPIN MACHINE ALMOST PERFECTLY, TO COVER UP THE WHOLE THING


What is the take away? We are many years into this mega nuclear disaster and things are still going downhill in a number of ways in this out of control mega nuclear GLOBAL disaster and continuing emergency called Fukushima.

The multiple melted out coriums have still not been found. The poisonous heavy metal ionizing radiation underground in the water that flows past the coriums is steadily increasing and has reached astronomical levels. All of this contaminated poisonous water goes into the Pacific ocean. The 'temporary' high level liquid nuclear waste storage tanks are leaking, and the latest leak was not discovered for a month. Why? Because TEPCO stopped doing 'patrols' of the thousand or so tanks on site. The number of temporary tanks not really increased since 2012, so where is all of the highly radioactive water going, that they are supposedly 'collecting'? 

Japan is also burning Fukushima generated nuclear waste all over the country, and moving people back into highly radiation contaminated areas. So it is not just the nuclear workers and homeless that are going to be suffering, it will be all Japanese citizens and millions of tourists from all around the world as well.

Bottom line, the nuclear industry is working together with the government to make sure everyone in Japan is exposed to enough poisonous heavy metal radiation, so that down the road, no one can sue for damages, because there won't be any 'clean' areas left to compare to. When people get cancer or other diseases associated with radiation, they will suffer and die, with no one held accountable. As usual, the nuclear industry is being paid to fail, yet again.

The conclusion? Things are going from bad to MUCH WORSE in Japan. The Fukushima mega nuclear disaster is just starting. This nuclear disaster is not going to end well, even if they start doing the rights things now (highly unlikely), due to the incubation latency times of cancers and other diseases caused by low dose radiation. The homeless and mentally are being discarded on a human trash heap, left to suffer and die with no help or support.

They believe this indicates that various neurological and psychiatric illnesses can be caused by exposure to radiation levels between 0.15 and 0.5 Sievert..Flor-Henry also reported that similar clinical syndromes, which are accompanied by EEG changes in the left cerebrum, have also been observed amongst liquidators suffering from acute radiation syndrome.. It is possible to prove that cerebral changes in Chernobyl liquidators and veterans of the first Gulf War, as well as the war in Bosnia, are very similar. Flor-Henry attributes this to the use of projectiles containing uranium ………”

As if the public, nuclear workers, mentally ill and homeless did not have enough to worry about, mental illness is just another negative effect of exposure to low dose ionizing radiation. AGR predicts that a public health, fertility and mental health disaster is the next thing coming up for Japan.

But the 'experts' have all of that covered too, because pro nuclear apologist computer models can 'fix' any mega disaster and make it appear to be just a minor blip on the radar screen.. Look, it's a global mega nuclear disaster; no it's a bird, no it's a plane, no it's only 10% of Chernobyl, because the computer 'models' say so.

And as bad things get worse, the denial grows larger and larger.

Which radiation risk model did they use? ICRP, I bet, which is silent on inhaled and ingested radioactivity, and underestimates risk of congenital defects by 10,000 times. If you care about the children run like hell and don’t look back. That was Professor Alexey Yablokov’s advice and it still stands with abundant studies made in the past 30 years to back it up.
