Alaska’s sea ice has completely melted away
The most rapidly changing state in the U.S. has no sea ice within some 150 miles of its shores, according to high-resolution sea ice analysis from the National Weather Service. The big picture is clear: After an Arctic summer with well above-average temperatures, warmer seas, and a historic July heat wave, sea ice has vanished in Alaskan waters.
“Alaska waters are ice free,” said Rick Thoman, a climate specialist at the Alaska Center for Climate Assessment and Policy.
“This is definitely an extreme year — even by more recent standards in a changed Arctic,” noted Walt Walt Meier, a senior research scientist at the National Snow and Ice Data Center.

Over 130 species of animals are going extinct every day on a global basis. The video above focuses on just a few species, some of which have gone extinct. Others are on the way out, and are having a hard time dealing with global warming and the climate changes produced by human emissions.

Normally, walruses live on the ice all year round. The walrus mother goes out on the ice pack and has her baby by herself, alone. One almost never sees a walrus on land, except for isolated pockets of individuals for a few days, possibly a few weeks, on isolated islands or beaches.
This event of 35,000 walrus hauling out on a rocky beach near an Eskimo village has never happened before the start of the industrial age, according to the verbal history passed down through many generations of Eskimos.
As the Eskimos say, the walruses 'always used to be here on the ice', but now, very few or none can be found. The ice is thinning and retreating. Everyone and everything is affected, in a negative way.
Walruses are being FORCED onto land, because the ice pack receded so far away, that the walruses have no other place to go. It was either haul out on the beach or drown. Baby walruses need to get out of cold water on a more frequent basis than adults, but they all need to get out of the cold water at fairly frequent intervals. Ice floes and ice sheets that float in shallow water above prime feeding grounds are normally where walruses spend almost all of their time, but those are gone now, so they are being forced onto land and into areas where they normally don't spend much if any time, and in larger and larger numbers.

Because Arctic ice is dwindling, the waters of the North Pacific Ocean are the warmest on record. Thirty thousand plus walruses have taken notice, "hauling out" on an Alaskan beach in numbers never seen before. They are following the retreating ice cap northward, leaving many Eskimo villages with a lack of polar bears, seals and walruses, which all depend on ice flows and the ice sheet for survival, mating, raising young, hunting, etc.

Of course, those people who don't live in Alaska, and have no idea what walrus do, can claim anything they want. There is an 'expert' on ever corner and in every home, all around the world. If in doubt, ask the Eskimos who live with these creatures and who know their history long term.
But even correlations, Eskimos narrating history, or Eskimos giving evidence of what is happening today will probably not make a dent in a climate change or global warming denier's opinion or world view.
WHY IS THIS ICE MELT CHANGE HAVING SUCH A DRASTIC EFFECT ON WALRUSES?
Adult walruses are not normally prey for polar bears, because they are too large and have too many defenses. But the baby walruses are very vulnerable prey for polar bears, as this video proves, but ONLY if they go on land.. Walruses have no fear of anyone or anything, as they are normally a top predator, with no competition.

But walruses know that polar bear eat their young, so they have traditionally avoided polar bear predation by spending most or all of their time on ice flows or areas that are far away from polar bears. As this video shows, there is no ice visible in the Arctic ocean, and the polar bears are trapped on shore along with the walruses, including their young. Polar bears have an easy time picking off the young, even though they cannot attack the adults.
AGRP is making a prediction, that in the long term, packs of polar bears who are trapped on land due to the ice melting in the Arctic will eventually put more and more pressure on walrus populations who are also trapped on land and concentrated into huge 'herds' for the same reasons; melting/disappearing Arctic ice.
There will soon be no escape for the walruses due to the polar ice cap and icebergs disappearing. Land is where polar bears have all of the advantages, and that may very well be where the walrus populations won't be able to survive in the long term. This is just one tiny repercussion from global warming, but there are many, many more.
HUNTING PRESSURE AND RADIATION ADDED TO GLOBAL WARMING FOR WALRUSES THAT HAVE NO FEAR OF HUMANS; LIKE SHOOTING FISH IN A BARREL
Walruses are now subject to a lot more hunting pressure. They don't fear humans because not even polar bears take them on. They stay right there as hunters come up close and shoot them. Eskimos used to have very little effect on walrus or whale populations, just because they could not handle more than a few due to weight, boat and technology restrictions.
But now, hunters come in from all over the world with modern rifles, gasoline motors and high technology. Guided hunts are going in and and those hunters are looking for the largest male walruses, in order to take home the tusks as trophies. The problem is that taking out the largest and best genetically superior male specimens hurts the whole species genetically.
As the following video shows, hunting pressure on the males has grown to the point where out of 600 walruses, only a few males are left in this particular area. Who is monitoring this situation? Is money from guiding hunting starting to wipe out a species already threatened by global warming and high technology hunting pressure from Eskimo tribes?
Hunting pressure only adds to population reduction in sea creatures of all kinds. Walruses have no fear of humans, so they can be approached within a few feet, making them easy targets for 'hunters'.

Biologists agree that as ice cover continues to decrease, there will be a significant drop in the polar bear population, which according to federal wildlife officials stands at about 26,000 globally. A 2015 assessment projected a reduction of over 30 percent in the number of polar bears by 2050.
“Polar bears are built for a feast-or-famine type of eating,” said Elisabeth Kruger, an arctic wildlife program officer with the World Wildlife Fund. “But when that period of fasting gets too long, it can put them on the brink.”
Polar bears have been labeled threatened under the Endangered Species Act act since 2008. They are among the largest members of the bear species and prey heavily on seals.
